President Rupiah Banda and First Lady Thandiwe Banda interact with Zambians resident in Ethiopia recently.

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda is next week expected to leave for China for a State visit at the invitation of Chinese President, Hu Jintao.

According to a statement released in Lusaka yesterday by special assistant to the president for Press and public relations Dickson Jere, President Banda would depart for China on February 23 and would hold talks with President Jintao and other senior Chinese government officials.

During the visit, the two countries would sign various memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in different fields.

President Banda would be accompanied to China by First Lady, Thandiwe Banda and five Cabinet ministers among them Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati, Mines and Minerals Development Minister Maxwell Mwale, and Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources Minister, Catherine Namugala.

The president is scheduled to meet various investors as well as undertake a tour of some leading Chinese companies before meeting African diplomats accredited to China. Mr Banda and his delegation are scheduled to return home on March 4.

  1. How many memo’s have we signed with China? maybe these are RB memo’s for the sale of more mines to the Chinese. We wait and see, I’m not against wholesome sale of mines to them but their importation of cheap labour to dump in Zambia with Impunity. Ask Luanshya residents, ask Chambeshi residents, ask Albidon Mine workers, ask anywhere they have taken over mines even in Papua new Guinea in the far east islands. we need to welcome their investment but stop turning our land into dumping ground for humans.

  2. This is a long period for the President to be out of the Country especially that he is always alias on the Move. This is becoming a Hobby.

  3. # 2 well observed. Now Zedians, I have some intellectual food if you care to digest. One thing that a lot of people do not realize is this: Choncholiland has a population of about 1.3 BILLION while Zed has 12 million. Therefore, even if the choncholis export 12 million choncholis to Zed, there would be absolutely no shake-up whatsoever in their population while that of Zed will have doubled. Now, fellow Zedians open your eyes wide and check out what is cutting here. These choncholis you are seeing everyday will keep increasing and very soon at the rate we a moving, we shall be one-to-one, and then there will be more choncholis in Zed that Zedians. Eventually, even the signposts will be in choncholish. One day you carry out a census, and the population of Zed is 100 million. You may…

  4. You may be wondering where the extra 80 million would have come from and your guess is as good as mine…I really have nothing against the choncholis in fact, I admire their belief in self progression but beware…..THE DRAGON HAS ARRIVED!

  5. Musokotwane was here ( in JP) just a few weeks ago and again, it seems like mulipaulendo, this time with Bwezani to the country just next door. Ndeke yeve muikonda ka…especially your boss RB, kaya:-??

  6. mr bwezani, has nthng to worry o he enjoys is outings wit little t.president bwezani cut yo trips coz dat moni u r using can b used 2 build draings in z.u shud listen wen pipo tok big man:(:-w:d/

  7. I strongly welcome this. These are some of the trips he should have been making in the past. He should have been going to important global economic players and try to attract FDI. However, Our Clown of plot one opted instead to see half naked women in Swaziland and believed in his little brain that only Mswati could bring us FDI since he had a lot of contacts. No one would complain had the plot one Clown been travelling around the globe to source investments from countries like S Korea, Japan,Malaysia,Brazil(as long as its not carnival time),India and the middle east too.I think he is slowly trying to work up.Instead of visiting his homeland(zimbabwe) every so often, he should have been making trips that benefit our country in terms of investment. What do you expect, his advisers Snr Citizen

  9. At it again..I am not surprised with our President..hardly a month passes without a foreign trip…I have never heard him delegate on any of his numerous trips..or its true his vice doesnt exist, coz how can he be promising a vice to each province he visits in Zambia..if there was a chance for him to go to the moon, he would have gone as a space tourist…at the rate we are moving, can someone tell him to minimize his trips before he fnnishes our money? anyway, this circus only happens in Zambia..NALEKA!!

  10. Wow ! Maybe he might be lucky to be also recognised in the order of the summo fighters like it happened to one so called state council.:-?

  11. Frequent flyer on the move again!!He has flown over 5 times in 2010 already and there he goes again.he’s gonna die of a heart attack in the air!The Challenger plane should really be complaining coz no other president has flown as much as RB

  12. “PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda is next week expected to leave for China for a State visit at the invitation of Chinese President, Hu Jintao.”

Should he decline such invitation from the Chinese president? China is now nearly the 2nd biggest economy in the world after USA. Suppose Obama invited RB, should he decline? Or send a lower rank official?

As for the MoUs, this is a meeting of “Kings” so they must be upto something substantial. Kings do not give cheap gifts to visitors. Let’s wait and see what is in those MoU packages. I doubt that Zambia will be worse off as a result of this visit.

At the same time, parliament and govt will or should evaluate Zambia’s relations with other nations.

  13. I hope RB has cleared his itinerary with Membe before he goes otherwise Fred will make up stories about how RB has given away land to the Chinese in PF strongholds.

  14. Wow!There goes the land of Zedi.Maybe we might be like to remain if the floods continue otherwise it will be another rice plantation.Bagula Chalo ma Choncholi.

  15. I welcome this trip to China by the President. However it upsets me to see how successive govts in Zambia have continued to neglect EDUCATION and HEALTH matters. Without development in these areas, there is no way we can be equal partners with countries like China that have massive financial and human resources. It is my hope that this delegation does not just go to sign away mining rights but also look at TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER and cooperation in the areas I have mentioned above. Bon Voyage.
