Government will take action against those mentioned in the AG’s report-Shikapwasha

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha

Chief Government spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has dismissed allegations that government is not taking action on the Auditor General’s report because it is shielding some people.

Lt Gen. Shikapwasha says government does not take action before the report is released but only does so once information is availed to all ministries and government departments.

Lt Gen Shikapwasha who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka that government will never do things without following procedure.

He explained that government was merely waiting for the right time to take action against those mentioned in the Auditor General’s report as opposed to assertions that it is trying to protect some people.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha noted that government understands that any misapplication or misappropriation of public resources is retrogressive to the development process of the country.

He explained that when the report is released it is taken to all the ministries so that each ministry is aware of issues that concern them.

He has since advised people to desist from blaming government on issues they do not understand properly.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha has since appealed to the public to have information on issues before issuing any statements to safeguard the peace the country has continued to enjoy.

On Thursday last week, Luena Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Milupi accused government of not taking action on revelations in the Auditor General’s reports as a way of protecting some people.

Mr. Milupi said issues of misappropriation of funds, non retirement of imprest and projects not being completed on time contribute to the country’s underdevelopment.

  1. Start with US embassy,,,senior citizen is one of the culprits, let him go back to znbc and start doing what he does best, reading the news and being master of ceremony at weddings
And also,Shikapwasha, before i forget, you still have the audit report for ZNBC,im sure that audit report was done early last year, how about you make that report public and what course of action is being undertaken, try not to talk too much, sometimes its much wiser to keep quiet

  2. #1 The govt says they will take action on all those mentioned in the AG’s report so whats your problem? I thought it should have been you to shut up this time instead of your ussual missplaced advise.G Mpombo should not start crying let him wait, it happened to High Commissioner G.Chilumanda and so it will happen to all those found wanting.

  3. #2,
My problem is that shikapwasha needs to act on his reports first, which he has been sitting on for ages now, according to the constitution, once the AG releases the report,it takes only 3 months for the affected department to respond and make the findings public,ZNBC audit was done early last year,Salasin was relieved of his duties, meanwhile since then nothing has come out,and shikapwasha has been sitting on that report all along, dont you think its prudent shikapwasha tells us whats in that report and what action is being taken

  4. All this is targeted at Mr. Mpombo. I have no problem with arresting with Mr. Mpombo. GM is a vagabond. He has done nothing but misuse the funds as the AG report. He should explain to us the people of Zambia regarding the 49 Million.

  5. Shikapwasha is just :-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@:-@ I think he should just shut up really. Why rush to audit PF run couuncils and yet you have audit reports that need your attention%-(%-(%-(%-(%-(

  6. Tell us, Thandiwe used to be on payroll from 2006 up to July/August last year. What has Govt done about it? You just have to be fair you guys. Remember nothing lives forever.

  7. Government action should not be selective but all those mentioned in the AG’s report to be brought to book and face the law. This country has enough resources but those in higher position root these resources for their own benefit. It saddens me to see pipo not accessing clean water, queing for panandol, sleeping without a descent meal, potholes on roads, children learning in pole and mud classrooms,no desk in schools, etc and yet a few crooks are pocketing our resources, shame. The utterances by Shikapwasha should not be mare rhetorics but that government mean business. Even if its Shikapwasha or RB relatives or MMD supporters working in government mentioned in the AG’s report must be dealt by taking them to courts, mwachilamo ba pungwa.

  8. Our governmental and political system suffers from endemic corruption and abuse. We need to strengthen and increase the capacity of institutions that are tasked to fight corruption and abuse of office and not have to wait on political figures to act. The system should be such that it highlights these vices and flushes the culprits out without political influence including junior officers who are also very corrupt nowadays

  9. At least we have enough rains this season. I am sure most of us farmers are happy. What do you think bloggers?

  10. Ba Mpombo, mulepunda tabalamilopola!! Anyway, the AG reports come out every year and no tangeable actions are taken, or at least seen to be taken. Its not too late, take action now, impartial action that is, we just might believe you Shikapwasha!!:-\”

  12. People! What Shikapwasha is saying is true. Government will act. He just does not say which one. Definitely NOT the one he is in. What he really means is the UPND/PF Pact Government next year!! Could this means he has joined?? 🙂

2011 HERE WE COME!!- You dont know the problem? Yaba, I dont where you are -may be you are on Mars. Your RB has directed your AG to audit PF controlled concils when he knows that these are audited annually and a report for the last audit is with your AG. No1 is talking from this point of view that your RB is out to fix PF/UPND leaving out MMD supporters no matter what your AGs report says about them- in a nut shell that is what the problem is Ala ma elections fye aya yakapita..

  14. The people have to make the government accountable. In case the people do not understand the issues it is the duty of the government to disseminate the information effectively and efficiently. Democracy is a pain for those who do not believe in it. The role of the opposition is of course not to support the government of the day but to critically analyse their performance and most importantly highlighting the gaps. There is no government that is perfect but other governments are more fragile and infested with greedy. It is easy to be on the side of the opposition but once you are in power, the story takes another path.

  15. Government does not function like a katemba.I wonder what kind of reasoning some of you bloggers have.Government operates on bureaucratic principles And not of the limited company.

  16. #1 and #17 Thanks, the problem is clear here. Theft whether by supporters of the Rulling party or Opposition is theft. I gave #1 an example on Chilumanda, why are you avoiding that example and just point at the so called PF run Councils? Are you happy that People who not too long ago like Mumbi Phiri, A pre-school teacher who first went to Parly in a finished toyota venture later Got a Nissan Patrol from Parley which she has quitely sold to a white lady no change of ownership fo obvious reasons is today in a toyota spacio cheating people like you who believe every thing about PF. If she is arrested today you want to look for an excuse to say others have done it before. No thats wrong.PF councils in urban Areas have missused funds and this info is from Directors in these councils Lets wait

  17. #1 and 17 Some of you bloggers make me wonder why you even comment on Zambin issues because you don t contribute anything to this country apart from your dity critisim, I pay so much taxi to both Local councils and central govt and this why I talk every day.And you? Too much of your un wise critisim will just make u criticise every day, week, yr and by the time you will be back here nish namukwatafye ichisungu mukanwa no money. Be careful guys.We ve seen these things before

  18. I like these blogs. Quite informative to us in diaspora.

Interestinlgy, MMD struggles a lot in urban areas, and that’s where computers and the literates are. If rural areas could be on this blog, we would most certainly here from MMD’s strongholds too.

This imbalance in access to media is one reason we get shocked when elections votes are fully counted.

This though is not limited to Zambia. It’s the pattern in all under developed or developing countries.

I am glad govt is now under pressure to do something about those audit reports by AG. It’s a scandal that we have a history of not doing anything about AG’s audit reports. Jungle rule.

  19. DJ, you are writing without puting much thought to it. How can people “make the government accountable?” and how can “government disseminate the information effectively and efficiently?” yours are political statements that are not applicable. Government have structure, from the grass roots to the top. In Zambia, there’s less or no empowerment forums that citizens can use and get results from political leaders. To make Govt accountable which ladder or forum are you going to use? information is not just given, have you heard of the “information bill? and to be in the opp is not to oppose everything the Govt is doing. You just become a “watch dog.” Talking of “infested with greedy.” you said you are “infested with HIV” and doing “well.” why are you throwing stones on…

  20. LT please stop using the above Shikapwasha photo. My son stood next to me and he saw this picture. He had to miss class the following day because he failed to sleep. Now he is even afraid of joining us on a trip to the homeland. My son thinks there cannibalism in Zambia. Please find some attractive photos.

  21. My other friend from Uganda suddenly stopped associating with Zambians around thinking we are keeping Idi Amin’s son in Zambia.

  22. # 28, You do not need to retire to be taken off from the payroll. She was not teaching or on the MoE sanctioned study leave. Period.
