A HIGH powered delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by managing director Dominique Strauss-Khan will be visiting Zambia this week for a series of meetings with Government, civil society and business organisations.
Ministry of Finance and National Planning public relations officer Chileshe Kandeta announced this in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Kandeta said the IMF delegation, which will be in the country on Wednesday and Thursday, is expected to hold consultative meetings with President Banda and Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane during which they will look at key financial, development and economic affairs.
“Mr Strauss-Khan is also scheduled to face civil society groups, business associations and students from Zambian institutions of higher learning at an open and frank debate session scheduled for the Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Thursday, March 11, 2010,” he said.
Mr Kandeta said the visit by Mr Strauss-Khan is significant to Zambia as it will exhibit the confidence that the IMF and other co-operating partners have in the country’s economic development programmes.
He said the visit is also an indicator of the confidence the IMF has in the measures which the Zambian Government has put in place to revive growth and reinforce resilience to economic shocks experienced during the global economic downturn.
“The Ministry of Finance and National Planning looks forward to successful consultative meetings with Mr Strauss-Khan and his delegation,” Mr Kandeta said.

Ati a HIGH powered delegation……high powered or not we just need tangible results and VISIBLE change and development in the country.
No matter what you may say about IMF, such a high level visit is a plus for Zambia and RB’s government. These guys do not waste time visiting mickey mouse countries. Just thinking aloud, if Sata was president what would he talk about with the IMF president, that he will solve Zambia’s economic problems in 90 days? o
#2 we don’t even know why the are visiting so why is it a plus? nway i don’ts support these neo colonialists masquerading as imf and world bank
Why cant we coment if we have seen the full agent or simply after the scheduled meeeting? Let us not just open our mouths before we see the out come? Who knows, may be for better. Mind you the IMF for long has been a developmental partner of Zambia, so can they just worst the scarce resources coming to Africa and Zambia? Guys let us wait and see.
Let’s wait and see the out come.
Those who criticise these institutions anyhow should remember HIPC. If these institution sdid not forgive Zambia’s $6bn debt, we would worse off. If somebody cant see and appreciate that, then some screws have dropped from their head. Let’s appreciate those who do good to us.
Ba LT, I cant believe you sensor s c r e w s.
To the pure all things are pure. You must have dirty heads.
I Mean we should comment if we have seen a full Agenda for the scheduled meeting.
i think they are coming for their money! time to do some maths….,,,deuces bane:d
To all those saying the IMF is good for us………..so really ?….since when?….If they are so good for us then why are we at the stage that we are despite having them as ‘development partners’ for many ,many ,years? I don’t know how long exactly , but it’s been too long . . These are money lenders and they are coming to check on their money . Yes , they may write off a few billion once every generation to make you feel good and confident about them , but that does not stop the cycle of debt , does it ? These are the people who shape our societies in the less developed world , with their loans and the many conditions that are attached to them.
**=. Why does this high powered delegation not visit America? I am yet to read the New York times about the IMF pulling the US out of the Doldrums. We can, that is develop progressively if leaders had a dream. Problem is they are mostly employee taught not employer enlightened, most of the heads in government opposition inclusive think the white man shall develop our country period. Question bloggers did Japan require a white man in their gray matter? Africans remember we started civilisation, what happened after that only our Lord can tell us. Read Ezekiel and answers shall start pouring out 🙂
**== 1984 this is your kind of topic enlighten the brethren and Sistren.
Forgive us our loans as we forgive those who we have loaned to (ba Zimbabwe)
