Republican President Rupiah Banda has appointed Bob Samakai as Chief of State Protocol at State House.
This is contained in a media statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Dickson Jere.
Mr Samakai was until his appointment Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
President Banda has also appointed Director of Human Resource and Administration at State House Mr Eliazer Kawila as the new Comptroller at State house.
Meanwhile, the President has also appointed State House Chief Analyst for Political Affairs Dr Francis Chigunta as acting Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs for Administrative convenience.
Mr Jere disclosed that all appointments are with immediate effect.

Its seems that is the good job our presido know now whenever he comes back globaltrotting to appoint people- Congratulation Bob work hard for the people to recognise you even after 2011
Bob Samakai seems to do his job right. He was at State House both in the Chiluba and Mwanawasa administrations.
Chila bushiku na akasuba lwa globetrotting and reshuffles. Awe sure, ni lwakwa Kansundila lekeni lunye bebele.
No need to have such a big government. Some of those positions are irrelevant. How many deputy’s deputies will GRZ need to get the job done? 😮
So what? Zambia is not about State House gossip, is this newsworthy?
I am sure if this appontment is another waste of taxpayer money. Will it help reduce poverty levels? Will it help improve access to healthcare? What is the pay package? I believe that what they need at state house is a travel agency! At least a travel agency will help find the cheapest means of travel as well as sell any empty seats on the presidential plane.
#6 Useless Expatriate- Don t you know that poverty was there even during the time of Jesus? Whilst it is the job of the Gov to reduce poverty, does it mean other works should suffer? Infact what the president has done is reducing poverty as Samakai and those who look up to him have moved up interms of poverty brackets. Kanofye nga nimwebo ilyo fiwama.
#7 You are very wrong in your analysis and logic. Just because poverty has always been there does not mean you can not eliminate it. Equally you do not eliminate poverty by having glorified butlers. My point is that this appointment has all to do with state house and does not positively impact on the lives of ordinary people. What is a chief of protocol? He is a ceremonial guy, who advises the president on established practices – such as how to greet the queen. He also ‘tells people how to line up when meeting the president!’ In short he is a glorified and overpayed advisor. How much does he earn and what benefits does he get – car, housing, security healthcare? This is alot of money that a country which does not have medicines in hospitals can ill afford.
