An 18 year-old boy has been killed by a hippo on Lake Kariba in Sinazongwe District in Southern Province.

Nangombwe ward Councilor Robson Sialukowa confirnmed the development and named the boy as Joash Simalugwe of kaduku Village in Chief Sinazongwe area.

Mr Sialukowa said the hippo hit the canoe where the boy was in together with his father who managed to swim to the shore.

He said he was killed while casting his last net on Lake Kariba and his body has not yet been retrieved from the Lake.
The Councilor disclosed that Simalugwe is the boy whose young sister was killed by a crocodile in November last year.

Mr Sialukowa appealed to the Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) to crop the Hippos and crocodiles on Lake Kariba to save the people’s lives for they depend on fishing.

“Our people should be assisted and the situation should be controlled before the animals continue finish my people I am getting worried with the situation as I keep on reporting about the fatal incidents but no action is taken,” Mr Sialukowa said.

  1. Life in the village, as long as they stay close to the rivers or lakes they will keep fishing and fetching water to drink and the same reptiles will take and eat them and these monisters the hipopotamus will knock canoes and munch them.
So the GRZ will not be allowed to crop these animals and it is nature to have these in the river.

  2. Collins Mbesuma- For your information that is NEWS. It is becoming a serious problem that the government needs to address before more lives are lost!

What is not NEWS- is blowing the chance of a lifetime by getting FAT and eating Macdonalds and Nshima instead of training and getting match fit and playing regular first team football!

  3. The entire family will be eaten by the crocs.I advise the remaining family members to relocate. This is the work of witchcraft.

  4. Mbesuma doesnt seem to what is news and what is not news, To mbesuma news is politics Sata says HH is a calculator boy, bla bla bla, thats what makes sense to mbesuma. Hippos are a source of worry during rain season most especially when their are floods like this year, government must look at this issue criticaly before more lives are lost. I pass my heart felt condolences to the family of the youngman. Let God be with you throughout this trying time.

  5. I we chi colour Mbesula. Do you no what NEWS is :o:o:o:o i think. You must be the most useless and stupid **==**== to say the list.and Mr chimbaby says, just by having ICHILUFUMO is not news. Some of you just like the news of me doing the :-@:-@:-@:-@ after having my~o)~o) ando-+o-+.Useless.I can even :-t:-t:-t on you head

  6. Crocs and Hippos live in water. If this person and the sister were killed in their house it would have been news indeed! The Hippo was followed by the deceased and therefore, it is the pipo that need cropping becoz the are so many that they have started living in water which is the place for crocs and hippos. RIP boy!!!

  7. imwe bangwele # 3 #5#6 dont you know that when you play in water , you either drown or get eaten. Those pipo should know better than to play in hippo or crocodile infested waters. its like playing on the main road then a car hits you and you call that news? get a life.

  8. is there no way ZAWA can restrict the hippos from reaching where humans do their fishing? It s sad that wild animals are creeping where humans make a living.

  9. Iwe chi # 12 it’s not about restricting hippos or crocs from reaching where humans live. It is us humans who need restriction because that is their territory and not ours, waumfwa? :)>-
