Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata has said there is need to take HIV/AIDS as a national disaster if the disease is to be effectively fought.
Mr Sata noted that at the moment the fight against HIV has been left to the Non Governmental Organizations the majority of whom he says are only making money out of HIV.
He said Zambia had Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as Syphilis which have been wiped out because they were handled nationally.
The PF leader urged government to realize that HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis are national disasters which need to be tackled nationally for it to be eradicated.
Mr Sata added that it was easy to wipe out diseases if they were handled nationally.
He was speaking when he featured on Joy FM’s the Platform.

Alot needs to be done on how to let people know how HIV/AIDS is deadly mostly those who have no access to the media, condoms should be a big part of it of this message.
Sata should also lead by example. He evidently didn’t think of HIV/AIDS when he had off-springs outside his marriage. We cant afford people paying lip service to this problem, like some other presidents we know. At last, Mr Sata has contributed positively to debate Zambian issues. Welcome into the arena of the civilised and progressive people sir. Or, was it his wife who passed on the snipett? He was in government at the time the prevalence rate was 26% and now at 19% and falling he wants it to be an emergency? I agree with him though, because this disease has been treated with kid’s gloves. Had we been severe with ourselves in the late 80s and early 90s, i.e. made it a ‘notifiable’ disease (redefining the term notifiable) we could have got rid of HIV by now. But we had AIDS activists and ministers all refusing to go that way. Prevention by abstinence where a natural appetite is concerned cannot work. Obesity can’t be controlled by fasting!

You have carried the AIDS dissident views here very well. But, learn one thing. White people will NEVER ever apologise to black people for any atrocities they commit against them. Africa will never be compensated for what it has suffered. Recently, PM Brown apologised to white Australian Britons. There have been apologies to the ‘light’ skined Maori, but not so much to the darker Aborigines. I was vaccinated with ENGERIX Hep B vaccine in 1986. Shortly after that I had a ‘reactive’ result with HTLV3 test. I cannot prove it but the Hep B vaccine carried HIV genes somehow. What can we do now though? Let us cooperate. Get rid of stigma. Get rid of this once and for all and then open our eyes to national bio-security!

Countries that have succeeded to reduce the infection rates, like Uganda and Botswana, declared AIDS A NATIONAL DISASTER. That done, all systems were go. When there is a disaster, the Disaster Management programmes are unleashed with the right hands on teams!
