Mangani now goes for Nawakwi’s Carlington Maize Scandal and others

Share

Minister of Home Affairs Lameck Mangani has made a revelation that the government has been quietly doing investigations on the Carrigton maize, Mr Micheal Sata’s $27 000 left in South Africa and some NGOs who were abusing public funds.

Mr Mangani has revealed that the Attorney General will advise Government on how to proceed with the Carlington Maize scandal in which Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi is implicated.

“Some of these investigations are being carried out quietly so that we are not accused of victimising some people,” he said.

On Mr Sata, Mr Mangani said the US$27,000 which was confiscated from Mr Sata by the South African authorities has been traced to some alleged irregular transactions which took place at the time.

He said investigations have intensified in the matter.

Mr Sata told authorities in South Africa that he was paid the money for consultancy services.

And Mr Mangani said investigations into misuse of public funds by some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have reached an advanced stage.

He said these investigations are not aimed at victimising the NGOs, but to ensure that public funds are well-accounted for.

“In fact, Government wants to work with these NGOs. There are NGOs such as the Zambia Red Cross who are consistent with their agenda and we don’t have a problem with them,” he said.

  1. I really do not know what this Mangani wants to achieve. We have not yet heard anything about the misuse of public funds at Embassies and Govt departments, and now he says Govt is investigating NGOs. I really cannot understand this rot.

  2. Mangani is very naughty. How can he say”quietly” when he is on the podium announcing what is being investigated?

  3. Yes Mangani, go for the Carlington maize scam so that ka FJT Chiluba can be taken back to court.
What a relief that Chiluba will still be jailed after all. What goes around comes around.
Mudala Chiluba, wapya ba mangani baisa, baza kumanga.:d/

  4. This is very sickening. What is happening to MOH scandle and others? RB and his minions are so corrupt that they want us to forget about big issues of theft by their friends. You cant take us for granted forever. We will be free oneday.

  5. Mr magani you preach peace and love,Why are you causing trouble every where? The issues you are bringing are irrelevent. The same friend of yours chiluba was part and parcel of those deals. Why are you so much on sata? You are seemly failing in your duties. Now what are you doing with the case of E. MATEYO. and KABONDE. Mind you today you a champion tomorrow you be crying.Just as matter of warning you, YOU ARE EQUALLY BEING INVESTIGATED SOON OR LATER THE POST NEWS PAPER WILL PUBLISH YOU ILL DEALING, you are foretold.

  6. Comedy as usual. Mangani should be talking about the plunderer Chiluba and where he got the $8million which is still in the Zamtroop and he should not hide in the $27 000 which did not come from government coffers. Its good he is bringing the maize saga which is an architect of the whole saga.

  7. 250 PF-UPND cadres defect to MMD

Over two hundred and 50 opposition PF-UPND pact members have ditched the alliance and joined the ruling MMD in MUNALI constituency.

Welcoming the defectors in CHAKUNKULA ward YESTERDAY, MMD LUSAKA Province chairperson WILLIAM BANDA said the opposition have nothing to offer ZAMBIANS.

Mr BANDA also castigated the opposition for persistently issuing insulting remarks against President RUPIAH BANDA.

  8. Meanwhile, Mr BANDA has defended President BANDA’s foreign trips, saying they are meant to mobilise resources and investment which benefit all citizens regardless of their political affiliations.

And former PF LUSAKA province chairperson GOLDEN MULENGA said the MMD under President BANDA is the best party to lead the country forward.

Mr MULENGA said President BANDA is offfering solutions to the country’s various economic challenges.

  9. ‘Edith Nawakwi must resign’

SOME members of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) have called on their president Edith Nawakwi to resign on moral grounds.

Interim chairman for revival of FDD in Kabwata Constituency, Brebner Changala said Ms Nawakwi has allegedly failed to run party affairs and has resorted to insulting President Banda to gain cheap political mileage.

Mr Changala said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that it will be cardinal for Ms Nawakwi to resign on her own than be forced out of office.

  10. “As the FDD in Kabwata Constituency, we demand that Ms Nawakwi resign on moral grounds because her behaviour is contrary to that of FDD,” he said.

Mr Changala said Ms Nawakwi has no moral right to attack President Banda when the tone of her langauge is parallel to what she preaches.

“Our party president has no right to call the Republican President incompetent when she has no morals, that is unacceptable. She has really undressed our party,” he said.

Mr Changala said the Zambian tradition does not allow women to insult in public like Ms Nawakwi is doing despite her involvement in politics.

  11. “How will people respect her as a woman when she is in the forefront of insulting men and to make matters worse, the head of state,” he said.

Mr Changala accused Ms Nawakwi of having joined the Patriotic Front (PF).

“FDD members are reliably informed that their party president is organising herself to make an alliance with the PF in the 2011 elections because she cannot stand on her own,” he said.

Mr Changala alleged that Ms Nawakwi’s tone is that of the PF.

“She knows very well that she has made our party like a sinking titanic and it is practically impossible for her to win elections even within the FDD because members do not want anything to do with her,” he said.

  12. Mr Changala accused Ms Nawakwi of being scared to call for a party convention because of her recent alleged misconduct in public.

He said FDD members will not accept any proposal aimed at joining any alliance as planned by Ms Nawakwi.

Mr Changala recommended FDD vice-president Chifumu Banda for the party presidency.

And FDD founder member in Kabwata Constituency Thomas Kaluba said it is imperative for the party president to vacate office voluntarily than being thrown out.
Mr Kaluba said FDD members want progressive leaders and not leaders without a vision.

  13. Its very sad what following orders can do. Mangani is one of the few sane men in his party and he is now reduced to a circus clown!! Its hard to believe that even when other countries are past politics yakubuta and are looking into economic sustainability we are buzy trying to find out uwa posele kaputula pamutenge in 1961, or uwa tambile ba neighbor with a broken mirror. They are forgeting that this is tax payers money, our moany, which will be used to fuel witch hunting acts. SHAME on this govt. Excuse me.. i am off to buy me a red scarf, red card, red shirt and pants nakabamba ka red!!

  14. IT SEEMS THIS MAN SATA KING SERPENT IS DEALING IN MONEY LAUNDERING…….WHAT DOES THE LAW IN ZED SAY ON THAT TOPIC?

  15. The Carlington Maize Scam is squarely on the shoulders of Mathani, Nawakwi as minister of Fiance and Binake (SP).Mathani and Nawakwi went to Canada and exchanged the monies. Since when did you see Presidents being paymasters for Ministerial expenses?

  16. Mangani dont take people for a ride, how about miss using of funds in the gov what are you gonna do about that or may its ok for you guys to miss use tax payers funds.

  17. Well, if this is what it will take for us to get our Carlington monies back, so be it. All those who were involved in this scam should be prosecuted. I just wonder though why the government will only resurrect cases only when involved criminals step on its toes. This smacks of victimisation to me. I just hope they will open a docket on the plunder Bwezani presided over at Namboard, and also the ZAF fiasco where millions were spent on buying cars for ZAF by Shikapwasha and most of them were never delivered. We also want to know why VJ was let off the hook when he self confessed to being a drug baron. Chiluba too, he kidnapped aMwanza’s spouse, he should be locked up.

  18. #4mule: I love your angle. This Mangani is shooting himself in the foot. If these investigations have been going on privately why on his un washed anus he calls a mouth? I call his bluff. He just wants to scare off Nawakwi. Now that the FEDRAL CRIME Sata committed has shamed him he turns to some nonsense of Sata sourcing $27k illigally. Aya mafi cant see that if it was true was involved in that scam, he would by now be in prison. Sata inspite his bad language is a very resourcifull man who does not need to lick some anus to make ends meet. He was rich even before he became MP/Governor through consultancy work.

  19. #18 Mwata- In FTJs time, all procurements were done at STATE house. Ask Richard Sakala. Unless you were on the moon during that time, you should no better what say on this matter.

  20. Nawakwi once said the Carlingtone maize scandle had Chiluba heavily involved. This maize scam like the arms deal where FTJ & Ben Mwila made Zambia lose $20m. Chiluba used to invite known con-men bazungu to state house and turned state house into a Katondo street. Now Mangani says Edith was involved. Bane, I have said it. I love Mangani since he is a member of the PACT. This story will embarrase Chiluba. I welcome this investigation but as usual NyamaSoya will block this Carlingtone Maize deal cause it has FTJ deeply involved in corruption. Mangani well done.

  21. But these are mad they are acquitting criminal on the other hand they want to implicate inocent people.

  22. Mangani will be judged by posterity. He does not even have that quality that each one of us is expected to have called ‘Shame’! Instead of developing policy to develop the nation. he is busy digginh up records from 1958 that show that Sata was jailed in 1956; and now revisiting Carlington (an issue he does not even have the capacity to understand) to smear Nawakwi. For what? To protect his master! This is indeed leadership by dogs as rightly put by (Dis)Hon. Kaingu.

  23. MMD is doing its best to make sure Zambia is on the track. All these good things you see, its because of our hard working man RB. He deserves so many votes in 2011. What do you think bloggers?

  24. Government should stop wasting money digging up old stories, as they were the same people in government when these things happened. How about Chiluba and all the monies that were lost and the London Judgement. They should stop victimising the opposition and face real issues in the country like poverty. Bringing up these issues will not solve anything. The MMD are going out the same way they took out UNIP.

  25. The headline is misleading. The Carlington maize scandle implicated Chiluba and not Nawakwi. Nawakwi gave her statement possibly as a witness for the prosecution when Mwanawasa was around. So, please do not circumvent justice by giving headlines that are meant to surreptitiously make people believe that a certain person is being targeted.

  26. is it not sad that every new appointment like managani turns out to be pathetic.and this are the guys near the president.what does it tell you about what concerns RB all the time.lesa twafyeni

  27. .. mangani go on and make a fool of yourself. on this one my dear your hands are gonna get burnt. lets see where you can take this case

  28. Thats what I hve beeen saying all along, this Magani fellow is working for the opposition, because how does he restart the Carlington investigation when its well know that kafupi was at the helm of the scandal. Very thick individuals indeed.

  29. Following “Minister of Home Affairs Lameck Mangani has made a revelation that the government has been quietly doing investigations on the Carrigton maize, Mr Micheal Sata’s $27 000 left in South Africa and some NGOs who were abusing public funds” why is it that president HH has not been found with any case to answer while former MMD members Edith Nawakwi and Michael C. Sata, who are seemingly now wearing sheep’s clothing in the eyes of their supporters are implicated?

A long interview from the horse’s mouth instead of relaying on speculation on these two characters mentioned can be of help to the Nation.

Have a blessed day as I await Minister Mangani’s final words on this after investigations have been concluded.
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and…

  30. ..this is why i feel we must form a pressure group in MMD to check out the real MMD members , cause its like the party has been hijacked by individuals who are biter about their loss in 1991 and as so they are ganging up to finish the party MMD. this group of terrorist must be rooted out so we can have the MMD as it was back in the years . people support me on this one.

  31. Mangani. How about the cases with Zambian missions abroad?Whyquiet? Why not finish one thing then go to the next?
So u r investigating Chiliba silently yeap?

  32. Nawakwi is busy talking of hospitals bad state forgeting she also pocketed govt money, just wait elyo twaisa mulenya nokunya.

  33. Quote: “…..There are NGOs such as the Zambia Red Cross who are consistent with their agenda and we don’t have a problem with them….”

This says it all! Is it the agenda of an individual or NGO that should drive investigations into alleged scandles, or is it supposed to be merit based? If this is how investigations are going to be carried out in Zambia now, people will be right to question the real reason what this Mangani fella is really up to—-is he out to silence RB’s critics/opposition or something even more sinister—-persecution!

If he is sincere and serious about this whole issue, there are people already proven and convicted for stealing public funds that him and his boss (Rupiah) are protecting. Why not start from there? Maybe then people will take him seriously!

  34. If Nawakwi did steal the Carlington maize, let the law visit her without any delay, but the government should ensure that all outstanding cases involving corrupt practices and theft should be concluded without any delay.

  35. This “Mwata” on this blog must be Veteran / Senior Citizen / Patriot at the Zambian Embassy in the USA — the “cut-and-paste” king. He doesn’t have anything original from his rotten brain to contribute to the discussion.

  36. Is mangani the new Tetamashimba, what about ka mulongoti kali kuti, what happened to his foul mouth, I do not like sata neither do I like Rupiah banda. The only remedy to them all is time!! five more years they will all be gone, good riddance!!

  37. There is something wrong in the manner the justice system works in Zambia. Some people in Zambia are above the law, while others are below it; equality when it comes to the law is merely on paper. What happened to the case involving Thandiwe Banda, the First Lady, after she was found to have been a ghost worker receiving a salary she did not work for?

  38. Zambia cant wait the day, VJ, alaabee, Sata, munkombwe, William, Mulongoti and other foul mouthed politician shall demise one by one..

  39. This will not lead anywere. RB and Mangani thinks he can intimidate whoever speaks against them. Zambia is not for Chiluba, RB or Mangani but belongs to us all. My friends, when God says its over, so shall it be. We will not be intimidated by any former teacher or his DULL BOSS. Aluta Continual

  40. We are back in the UNIP days whereby anyone who spoke against Govt was target. Why is this Govt so occupied with Sata and now Nawakwi when we have cases like that of Ka Chiluba and chi Doctor Miti that this Ka Mangani ought to push for? Zambian has become politically rotten. It is no longer Zambia but Northern Rhodesia. Ama politicians ubututu too much. Doing things as per goat. Mwe nkumba mwe. :@)

  41. Justice #47,48 Your father worked in the UNIP Govt for many years. In spite of the many mistakes committed during that era, those old men laid the foundation on which Zambia stands now – try to be civil.
