MMD Lusaka Province chairperson William Banda has called on the Government to take stern action on some Members of Parliament (MPs) and their councillors misapplying the constituency development funds (CDF).

Mr Banda said the Government released CDF for various constituency projects such as rehabilitation of roads and drainages, but charged that some MPs and councillors were misusing the money.

He said this in Lusaka on Thursday when he addressed party cadres in Mwembeshi Ward in Matero Constituency in Lusaka.

Mr Banda, who was accompanied by provincial and district MMD officials, said it was wrong for Patriotic Front president Michael Sata and United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema to attack the Government for poor drainages and roads when it released CDF for such projects.

“I therefore call on the Government to take serious action against MPs and councillors abusing CDF because these funds are meant for constituency development projects like roads and drainages,” he said.

He said Mr Sata and Mr Hichilema should not blame President Rupiah Banda for floods experienced in the capital city because his Government had done its best to disburse CDF to enable MPs and councillors work on drainages and roads.

The Government had also increased the CDF allocation from K400 million to K600 million per constituency this year.

Mr Banda said the Government had further distributed road machinery and it should, therefore, be the role of MPs and councillors to access the equipment for rehabilitation works.

He said Mr Sata was once Health minister and did little to improve the sector, but President Banda and his administration had put several measures to develop it.

MMD provincial women’s chairperson Jane Nyirongo urged women to form clubs and access funds from the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission and Ministry of Community Development and Social Services.

  1. I wonder what job William will be offered when he delivers Lusaka Province to MMD! Minister of Home Affairs? Or District Commissioner? Or Deputy Minister of Lusaka Province? Well, you gotta hand it to him, the guy is hard working. Before Wills became MMD Lusaka chairman, we never heard of the MMD in Lusaka, it was all PF. He is a real danger to the ‘security’ of those not on his side. Little wonder Sata incited Chiluba to depot him. Did I say incite? Oh! funny that, because that is what Satan did to Job…. mmm what a coincidence in names! Satan.. Sata. Oh, it is not important.

  2. Women the world over are fighting to be respected and treated with dignity but in Zambia it is saddening to see married women reducing themselves to nothing by dancing and singing praises to male cadres like William Banda. Last week party women were lying prostrate on the ground paying homage to George Kunda and he enjoyed it. Their rewards, chitenge material. Please, husbands wake up and liberate your wives from undignified exploitation.

  3. is this the old chap who cant shutup? back on the scene after being called fool publicly by his party mates. dirty politics:-?:-?

  4. Only in Zambia are we ruled and insulted by foreign born nationals. It’s not our fault we are docile it’s a gift we developed. Zambia is not poor due to outside influences it’s our own doing. Blessings everyone and continue to praise the Lord God.

  5. Xenophobia is un Christian. One of the qualifications of an elder in the Christian Church is ‘lover of strangers (Xenophilia)’. In Hebrews 13 v2 the Bible says ‘Do not forget to love strangers (philonexia), for thereby, some have hosted angels unawares.’

  6. # 4, 6 and 7. It really is sad that Zambia is run and intimidated by such villagers from foreign nations. I have always wondered when will Zambians realize that Zambia is their country and they need to lead and take control instead of these leeches from Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland?

  7. Loving strangers does not mean allowing them to rule you and letting them run your internal affairs. They in fact as strangers must ask us for permission and not them bringing vigilante behavior in our nation. They have to justify why they have stay in our nation.

  8. Who is not a foreiner in Zambia. All Bembas are foreiners they all came from Congo.Study your history just across Mwese district in Congo are zambian congolise.Just across sesheke are Lozi Nambians and are Zambians.Leave William Banda alone he has changed the face of Lusaka.

  9. # 11, you are discussing history while we are discussing citizenship and current affairs. No one is interested in the Broken Hill Man scenario here. We are talking about issues around 1964 and after wards. If you want to discuss Ingombe ilede, you are on a wrong blog. With regard to William Banda changing Lusaka, we are not denying that fact. He has brought back thuggery and fear in the people. Vigilante life is back. If that is what you regard as change.

  10. HH had a meeting with sponsors that also paid for father bwalyas talk show.
Post is trying very hard and has been for a long while trying to discredit rb corruption fight because evidence has been found of nchito brothers involvement in corrupt practices.
Oil deal scandals being revealed are only so because others lost tenders and their connections thrown in the toilet, mmembe and nchito again.
Maureen has a lot of info, this is why she has backers and enemies that are quiet.

  11. This malawian is taking your parents in Mbumba Za Banda. Don’t you see the Kamuzu political track in having women dancing for politicians? William and Rupiah are eroding our cultures were women don’t just dance any how. We must stop these two vigilantes.

  12. I like the posts from most of our brothers and sisters and I totally agree that we’re docile. The confort I have is that we can chabge that, and that change starts with you. We need to start reminding William Banda that he is not a Zambian and that he needs to understand. Take advantage of every opportunity to remind him of where he comes from and in a strong manner.

  13. Hei, Hei, Hei, chaps Malawi is a good country and has no intention of colonising anyone. Further more the character of William Banda is neither Malawian nor Zambian. Its high time people stopped associating an individuals behaviour to a country. William Banda is nuts, not because he is Malawian, Chiluba is nuts not because he is from Congo DR. Bad genes, lack of proper education, poor leadership qualities and thieving mentallity are the way of life for these people. Such behaviour is prevalent in any human society, white, yellow, black and orange.
Then, guys know your history, we are all immigrants in Zambia. For some reason we are a pieceful set of immigrants because no one particular tribe dominated the other. Thank God we developed cousinship.:-?
