Government has bought five thousand masks for Zambian students studying in China’s Wuhan Province to protect them from contracting the coronavirus.
Zambia’s Ambassador to China Winnie Chibesakunda says government is also making efforts to buy more masks through its missions in Japan and South Korea.
She says government is looking at giving ten masks to each student in China in the interim.
Ms. Chibesakunda told ZNBC news that the embassy in China has created platforms for sharing of information with students and other Zambians living in China.
She said arrangements are being made to distribute food stuffs to students that are based in that country.
And Ms. Chibesakunda said there is no Zambian in China who has been infected by the coronavirus.
She has thanked the Zambian government for timely intervention and support given to her embassy.
The Envoy further said she has received maximum cooperation from students and other partners in China.
She has since urged parents with students in China to remain calm as government is making progress to help everyone who is in need.
Can wearing a face mask protect you from the new coronavirus?

But what measures have Zambia put in place for returning Chinese Nationals who could potentially be carrying the Virus? Or this has to wait until after the by-election in Chilubi?
Prevention is cheaper than cure.

Truth: 1. China is a major manufacturer of surgical masks ,followed by Philippine.
2.Buying of masks from Japan and South Korea,specifically for Zambian students is not practical,but merely PR or damage control.
3.Distribution of food products to students in locked up cities is day dreaming.
4.Embassy officials are out of touch with reality on ground.
5. Treat everyone coming from China infected, untill proven not.

There is a lot of hysteria in the comments and per usual, opposition cadres relate all these to govt ability. The fact is that our country is a poor country with limited resources. The students are probably in a better place for medical help than in Zambian hospitals. Clearly, the govt is doing the little they can Knowing the students are safe. Although, China is the world’s leading medical supplies manufacturer and appropriate anti-contamination masks are probably being given them free.
It’s necessary for Zambians to stop causing worry by undermining the govt and spreading malicious anti govt propaganda, govt is hardly at fault here. It would have been preferred had the kids been released to fly back home to be with their families if they are found to be free of the virus after…

The ignorance exhibited by bitter UPND sycophants is astonishing! These are not just ordinary masks that you buy from your local shop or pharmacy for X’s sake!!! To be specific you need the N95 type is recommended, which has run out in almost all pharmacies here in the UK. Even if you try and buy it online on Amazon the lead time is at least 10 days. Why do you always want to spread hate and anti-government propaganda?

This is good precautionary measure. Let those with sense appreciate this measure. I have been keeping in touch with our friends in China. Actually I have a niece who is there and spirits remain positive. Pf government is engaging with all those registered with the embassy.kz

Evacuating is a wrong move. You are talking about a disease with no cure. You are risking bringing the virus home. Zambia has a very poor hygiene habits . The virus can spread very fast ..mask are not even effective .. better stay In china
