Former Republican president Frederick Chiluba has said the increased level of investment in the country is a result of the international community’s confidence in Zambia’s economic management and political leadership.
And veteran politician and freedom fighter Sikota Wina says Ghana’s founding president Kwame Nkrumah has been vindicated that Africans can manage and govern themselves given the development on the continent.
In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, during the commemoration of the Africa Freedom Day, Dr Chiluba said Zambia’s economy had continued to grow.
“The economy has continued to grow. I took a casual walk this morning at Manda Hill and I was impressed with what is happening there because that will change the face of Lusaka.
“What it means is that the economic policies that were launched in 1991 are very good and now the investors and the international community are expressing their confidence in our economy by coming to invest more and more,” he said.
[pullquote]“They are enjoying the freedoms we introduced in our new Constitution, the freedom of conscience and association. When they like to celebrate they do, when they don’t want they stay away,” he said.[/pullquote]
Dr Chiluba commended President Rupiah Banda for uniting Zambians.
He said the construction works and new shops being built were a sign of progress in the economy.
Asked to comment on the political parties that boycotted the celebrations, Dr Chiluba jokingly said the opposition leaders were enjoying the fruits of democracy.
“They are enjoying the freedoms we introduced in our new Constitution, the freedom of conscience and association. When they like to celebrate they do, when they don’t want they stay away,” he said.
Mr Wina said the achievements in the country and on the continent were testimony to the fact that Africans could govern themselves.
“The white man said Africans couldn’t govern themselves. The achievements in this country and all over the continent despite the few mishaps proved that Nkrumah (Kwame) was right when he said Africans could govern themselves,” he said.
He said the struggle for independence was worthwhile.
Mr Wina commended President Banda for undertaking various initiatives to grow the economy.

Chiluba is full of jokes. I rememeber when Levy “won” the first term, FTJ said today is a joyious day. We are handing over power to ourselves. Now he says the beauty of democracy, when people want to celebrate they celebrate and when they want to stay away, they stay away. Now Kafupi, why are they staying away?? The real beauty of Democracy is to choose to stay away from thieves like FTJ.
Am I the only one who feels that Chiluba can do a horourable thing by keeping quite so that we all quickly forget about what he did and did not do. I know he has rights but trying to come up like some hero is a bit insulting I reckon. MMD is not his brain child nor is multi-party democracy….most of us know the brains and forces behind were.
Is Manda Hill or Arcades THE sign of economic progress? As Chiluba took a casual walk at Manda Hill and observed ‘economic progress’, let him take another casual walk to Garden compound, Chibolya, Msisi, etc. and see the same economic progress there!!!!!!!!!!!!
its not a question of good leadership but the fact that one can come in Zambia and make a killing then leave with the loot. Its a pity we are denying the Zambians this opportunity to be part of boom in preference to the outsiders. Once these guys get their money they will run like thieves and once again Zambians will be left empty handed.
DEC do your job now!!!!
The short man and his love for malls and other material things. That’s why at his age, kalibeko na farm.A shameless thief commenting followed by a drug dealer in KK’s time, what do you expect.I think political stupidity in Zambia has reached alarming levels….ubuwelewele too much in Zed.The mindset of most of these old ballyz is appalling to say the least. We need young blood,a dedicated leadership that will change the face of Zambia and the faces of Zambians.Manda hill itself is an infrastructural scandal, the manda hill bridge is a useless design.
iwe ka chiluba take yo ka short BWAMBA to hell !! u stole our money and on top of that u grabed sum1,z wife. u such a useless chap !!
And you can call extension of a mall as development? No wonder we are were we are today because of warped thinking from people who were entrusted with the reigns of power in this country. And what about the carrying of buckets to UTH for deliveries? And not to mention the shortage of essential and equipment in our hospitals?
And whilst you, FTJ were taking a walk to Manda Hill, did you see the street kids whose numbers are growing at the same rate as born-again churches? Did you ask yourself about that development too? Your thinking is as short as your height. Just shut up
my fellow Zambianz dont waste time on this thief called chiluba, coz hez dez as a free man are numbered, cum january 2012 he,l be in jail.
What a shame to call the progress at manda hill as economic development-I think Mr former President you just had nothing to say-you misplaced the words sir-economic development will only be there when my people from musangu village where you come from have proper health accessibility, good education, enough jobs, good road network, enough farming implements, enough food not only fews people like you enjoying what you do not deserve.
ZAMBIANS WAKE UP AND LET US UNITE AGAINST OPPRESSION AND MOCKERLY FROM FJT
Why cant people just let go. you have done your time as president but you still want to be on the scene and end up just embarrassing yourself more. This is what happens when one compromises their dignity. Its so shameful and pathetic. I have totaly lost respect for this man[-(
It is shameful to the mmd and indeed Rupiah Bwezani ba Banda ku muzi next year, to choose to associate with a shameless thief as per rulling by judge Smith. The chap is really a thief coz innocent ones if suspected wrongly feels extremly unconfortable to get back to the public and rebuild their image. As with him finds pleasure to attend celebrations such as this and patrol Manda hill shame!! The best u could have done was to put up an investment using the stollen money so that Zambians can benefit indirectly from their money in form of employment, VAT and cooperation tax. Unfortunately the chap invested heavily in high healed shoes, suits and gabbling with women!!!
Kafupi: small man, small mind, small vision! Manda Hill may represent just another big hole to drain the wealth of this country to somewhere else.
Fellow countrymen…I appreciate your comments above. We should stop rewarding thegery and failure and we should stop giving politicians a ‘second’ or ‘third’ life to rule Zambia. The likes of FTJ, VJ, RB, Sata et..al, all belong to history. Lets move on and get new blood with good ideas. Some of you bloggers here can make better leaders than these old men…..come on people, politics should be touch and go!
We should be debating on who has better policies among the likes of Milupi, HH, Chipimo and the like. With due respect, the old folk have done their part and we appreciate the good and abhor the bad.
I think we Zedians are ba mbuli! How can we accept these baliz to steal and mock us? It is totally unacceptable! If FTJ can get to our old useless president, what chance do we have against the chinese? RB is in all the crooks pockects! They will do everything to protect themselves and rug the elections come 2011. I feel sorry for aspiring leaders like HH.
Let work up and chase these thieves otherwise there is no hope!
FTJ Chiluba is such an I. di.ot to think that what he saw at Manda Hill is economic development. No wonder this thief had no idea of what a President of a country needed to do.
One would expect that this thief could visit UTH to see what he has done to a once funtional hospital under Kenneth Kaunda. This is the hospital which attended to the first President when he was unwell unlike the “new kacha” of these thieves who travel to South Africa for medical treatment.
You disgust me.
Hate or like him. His wit and communication skills are quite striking. When asked bout those who boycotted. He just says They are enjoying the freedoms we introduced in our new Constitution, the freedom of conscience and association. When they like to celebrate they do, when they don’t want they stay away,”
He also talks of the casual walk and how he noticed developments at Manda hill.” I was impressed with what is happening there because that will change the face of Lusaka.” – true
He doesnt stop there
“What it means is that the economic policies that were launched in 1991 are very good and now the investors and the international community are expressing their confidence in our economy by coming to invest more and more,” he said.
Pantu ba kumfwilako luse we ka SHETANI ka LAZO!
+pa Zed. W dont hate FTJ nor like him, we dont just want him pocking his nose issues. Is over ruling a high court positive thing for Zed? Come on. You are still sleeping iwe Zambian. Freedon is a basic human right. No human being must kick the the drum to tell us he brought it.
The freedom FTJ brought about was in order to loosen the systems and have a go at them, by looting.
Thats what he has done. What freedom? if Kabwela could be paraded they way they did. What freedom? if Hon Mangani can be chucked out without explanation. Anyway, muchili mulelala-mugona!!!. Muzadabwa that things change. Mukapapa!! abena postive pa zed.
FTJ is a genius but in the proffession of thievery as per the judgement of Mr Smith.
Chiluba is trully having a good time facilitated by the government and he can even afford to f.o.o.l around, what a shame! He is being paraded here, there and everywhere like a hero yet he is just a crooked plunderer. Like it or not, Zambians will one day have the last laugh.
Ka Chiluba is even no longer sick, during levy’s time he was ever in South Africa for treatment/review. Anyway we all Zambians are to blame for having voted the boy in 1992 (I never voted for him, anyway it won’t change the situation). We never seem to learn lessons and enjoy learning the hard way…and people are willing to try Sata and learn the hard way again…..come on Zambians. Look at what ka Chiluba did for Zambia – total disaster, he participated in all manner of crimes even grubbing another man’s wife – that’s Adultery. What Christian nation!! Loaded with Devilish leaders
Iwe ka chitole bushe wa pangwa shani kanshi? What development are you talking about when more than 80% of people are unemployed and can’t afford to go shopping ku Manda hill shopping mall. Just behind that Manda hill is garden compound as well as chaisa……..does this little fool ever know how people in living in these areas? There’s so much poverty in this country created by FTJ after he sold companies and sent people to the streets and graves without paying them their terminal benefits. Ka chikala iwe uyichindike sana
Abash casualisation!!! #-o#-o
LT give us real news to debate
Lies. Lie and more lies. The fact that the Chinese are here is not because of the policies of the current so-called leaders. If you look at China’s investment portfolio, they are willing to work with anybody and do not care if those people are dictators or murderers. Their goals are practical and clear: They need materials for their thriving economy and they need to make friends as they challenge the US as a world power. We could lie to ourselves and say that they like our policies but the truth is that they DO NOT CARE WHO THEY DEAL WITH.
The real challenge for Zambians is to make people at the grassroots benefit from this influx of investment. Judging from the activities of China in other countries this will not be easy if we maintain this crop of leaders schooled by a pygmy.
Ba kadoli, kadoyo, shortie ,vwipie why dont you rest like other former presidents, why do you want the limelight so much.We know that when it comes to mind games you really were good but not anymore. You are no longer the mosese of zambia as you claimed to be.Give it we tired of of stupid ranting of wanting to be seen around, Oblivion would make more sense for you:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d :(:”>8-|
Ba Chiluba be more productive and go farming instead….oh and dont forget to take RB with…8->
chiluba is former kaponya, someone needs to explain to him if zambia is really developing.
In zambia u can even count the nice places one can go to or the number of buildings like findeco. what is this short man saying? he never did nthin in 10yrs. sold mines for nothing, the copperbelt is now scrap shame on u. i wish i had an opportunity, kuti nakalasa amalegeni…
Post 1991 elections KK could have gone round walking and said, “UTH= development; Mansa batteries= development; Kifco= development;Mulungushi textiles= development; Mununshi banana scheme = development etc., et.,. This chiwelewele is talking rubbish. What percentage of Zambians are able to afford to shop at Manda Hill?
so development pa zed ni traffic jam na manda hill
Is Kafupi the MMD spokesperson or minister of information? He needs to realise President Banda is the president and not him. Kafupi had his 10 years and it is over…please let go. I have never seen such an ex president in the world that loves the lime light. Former presidents promote charity programs not political. He should follow KK and Mandela’s example. They promote charity work. Which charity program does Kafupi support ?
wat gud governace is this short fello tallking about!!:-?
It was good to see an energetic KK singing out his lungs about African Freedom…today, its nice to see our former Republican President FTJ looking healthy & well. I implore all well meaning Zambians to thank God for our past Leaders…to pray that God will bless the current President with wisdom & vision to lead our great Nation forward…above all to pray that God will give us a suitable leader come the next general elections.
^:)^^:)^^:)^ Lord, please beat the he.ck out of any wicked leader and any wicked followers – turn them inside out so they can repent of their wicked ways. Remember the poor, hungry, sick among us and make life hell for any greedy, selfish, corrupt leaders among us who do not allow them to live honourable lives. I thank You that You are a God of justice. Amen! ^:)^^:)^^:)^
Chiluba is next to see the inside of prison. Its just a matter of time as all those that were close to him have been convicted
