Government has described allegations that Chief Justice Ernest Sakala refused to shake hands with PF leader Michael Sata at the funeral of late retired Supreme Court Judge Peter Chitengi as only trivial.
Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha said the whole incident has been blown out of proposition and was just a deliberate ploy to undermine the integrity of the judiciary.
Lieutenant General Shikapwasha who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister has since urged Zambians to ignore the allegations saying the nation has more urgent and important issues of development to deal with than be engaged in fruitless squabbles over the so-called handshake.
He said in a media statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka on Tuesday that the Post Newspaper story on the handshake snub leaves more questions than answers from the journalism professional and ethical point of view.
[pullquote]Lt Gen Shuikapwasha wondered why the Post Newspapers sought a comment from Mr Sata and others soon after the handshake snub but could not do the same to the Chief Justice for him to comment on the alleged incident.[/pullquote]
Lt Gen Shuikapwasha wondered why the Post Newspapers sought a comment from Mr Sata and others soon after the handshake snub but could not do the same to the Chief Justice for him to comment on the alleged incident.
“Why was nothing done to this effect there and then so that both sides are heard in line with standard journalism practice of ‘balance and fairness’ to both sides”, the minister wondered.
He said journalism ethics demand that a journalist balances his or her story by getting the views of both parties, adding that a one sided account is tantamount to a lie.
Lt Gen Shikapwasha said government therefore finds the so-called handshake snub a non-issue which some people want to exploit for selfish gain.
He further government is also appalled by the unwarranted attacks by retired high court judge Kabazo Chanda against the Chief Justice over the handshake.
The Minister said it is clear that retired judge Chanda has a grudge against the judiciary over his un-ceremonial exit from the bench hence his emotional and baseless outbursts over the so-called handshake snub.
[pullquote]“I ask Judge Kabazo Chanda to tell the nation why he unceremoniously left the bench. He should also tell the nation why he changed his name from a Mr Mumba to his current name Kabazo Chanda”, he charged.[/pullquote]
“I ask Judge Kabazo Chanda to tell the nation why he unceremoniously left the bench. He should also tell the nation why he changed his name from a Mr Mumba to his current name Kabazo Chanda”, he charged.
Lt Gen Shikapwasha said Judge Kabazo Chjanda should better keep quiet and leave the judiciary out of his personal misfortunes and disappointments.
He stressed that the judiciary is one of the important pillars of the country’s democracy which he said should not be cheaply dragged into the mud.
Minister of information and broadcasting!! My a.rs.e! This bignosed fo.ol will crawl to plead for forgiveness from Judge Chanda after 2011, coz Judge Chanda is the next CJ – we’ve had enough of these cowards from eastern province. Zambia is a free and democtratic nation, every citizen is free to express their opinion. Shikas will be unemployed after 2011, thats for sure, and RB will be somewhere in Harare enjoying himself with his granddaughter Thandiwe.
# 1; an emotional outburst right there. you could at least try to refute the points which your so called ‘big nosed fool’ is making. name calling will not get you far
my sorry Mr information minister great wars start by small thing if you holding high position behaviour like that what will happen with ordinary people don not be so low in thinking. We socail being not greeting to each other mean a lot and you are a pastor who should talk about reconciliation not rubish you are saying. we are waitng for the chief justice to apologise not to Mr Sata but to us people of Zambia for his action we expect alot form you him that. Mr. Shika when the President will not greet you one day you will know that is not a joke.
Ronald Shikapwasha, little wonder someone said you have very little education not to understand simple things such as a Deed Poll. You are a Grade 12 who was trained to “drive” planes which does not need any intellectual substance. If Kabazo Chanda changed his name by deed poll, then there should be no problem.
The CJ has messed himself big time no matter what spinning you will engage in. He will, to quote Rahm Emanuel on Tom Hayward, never have another chance at learning PR!
Governing by threats, if indeed judge Kabazo has nothing to hide he should sue this fo.ol to teach a lesson, he’s got no immunity to hide behind.
Wisdom and good Judgement commands someone to reserve a comment and statement on this simple issue. But if you lack both Wisdom and good Judgement like Thief Govt Spokesman Shikapwasha, then you open your mouth all the time.
Thought there was a separation of powers in the three branches of government i.e. legislature, Justice and the executive. can someone explain why the spokesperson for the executive branch is speaking on behalf of the head of the judiciary branch?
Hee..Mr false reverand, Chief Justice Sakala messed up himself. The best he can do is to apologise to us Zambians. He has brought the judiciary into disrepute, people have lost faith and trust in him.
You guys you are messing up every day against all people…now chamitwala naku ma donors. You are so useless guys. [-([-([-(
this man jsu makes me sick, nothing he says makes sense, he takes Zambian for granted, i cant wait to see what becomes of him when he is out of office. and he calls himself reverand..shameless man who claim to serve people yet he deprives the poor of a descent life.
#7. Mwaiche wandi…there is only separation of premises! Otherwise, all is done from Plot 1!
This Sick Apple as* guy has seen an opportunity to attack the post again! This is just a calculated ploy by RB and his boys to divert attention from the whole drama. The real issue people are chastising the Chief Justice is his refusal to shake hands ( forget whatever reasons he might have had!).They have clearly realized he should not have done that, considering the office he holds and the unspoken implications of his refusal to shake hands with one Sata.
# 7 Village Boys: Do you think Shikapwasha understands that. He doesnt understand that he belongs to the executive and is a spokesperson of the executive. MMD are so corrupted with power such that they no longer see the need to cover their backsides.
Shakapwasha fuc.k you, hypocrite preacher. greeting is a big deal in the bible and Jesus taught about it so who are you to say the issue is not a big deal.
Hon. Shikapwasha, the whole country know that on the material day Sata came straight from the toilet torting with pupu in his nails on the front righ of his jacket. He had flies scrambling on the spot and the stench of his pupu hit the the church the sooner he emerged. CJ Sakala was served by his high sense of smell. Why should CJ shake hands with someone who had pupu in his hands to smear him and is known for directly scratching his herps heavy testacles with free hands? When did it become mandatory to shake hands with such.Sata had pupu on him and natural smell mixed with pupu did not help him.
If its a trivial issue why take government time to talk about it
Kwena twalikwata ifipuba mu government iyi
Who amongst you here would take pleasure in shaking someone advancing to you with pupu in his hands regardless of his motive to capture attention? Sata is known for doing highly self emabarrasing practices in hope of getting recognized. He thought smearing CJ with his pupu was in his best interest but it failed and has instead only exposed him. CJ is not a politician but Judiciary Sata is bound to face in his useless and futile election petition if his matero university will ever be accepted as a prerequisite for presidential nomination candidacy. Its to CJ Sakala that he will present his papers before and after elections.
Yaba!! so Ba Kabazo Chanda, must have done some notorious stuff to change the name from Mumba, sometimes it is better to keep quiet now even the sleeping dogs will wake up.
# 2 u are ****ed up. Judge Chanda is very right and its good he told off this good 4 nothing C.J. I have never seen such a useless chief justice like Sakala njongo who embarassed himself publicly thru his stupid and shameful behaviour. He is a big fool 2gether with this mr big nose Shikapwasha a fake pastor.
Kabaso Chanda has put himself in a lion’s mouth. Anyone with an idea why Chanda under Mwanawasa administration was unceremonously fired and changed the name from Mumba to Chanda before? What more do shushushus have on his file that we don’t know? How is he going to counter these challenges unfolding in his face? Is he still at UNZA lecturing? How safe is he and ready to battle these battles? It is rumored his house is a donation from some drug dealer under pursuit. Good luck to him.
#18, Judge Kabazo Chanda is still a lawyer and lecturing at UNZA up to now. Nothing has changed. Name changing is not an issue. Kabazo left the bench because he could not swallow the tosh Levy wanted to stash in his throat. Kabazo left the bench on principle and this is on record. the fact that he is retired means he served well. there are so many useless lawyers who dont want to retire. one of them is the chief justice. his term finished a long time ago but he is clinging onto power because he knows he has a scandal in waiting. ever heard of Barbra Mwamba Chanda- that cute girl sakala is flirting with? sakala even wanted to promote her to the higher bench but she is still unqualified but becoz of the burger between her legs, sakala is keen to push her to the supreme court.
wait until…
Ok The Impostor of my name and Picture has now gone out of line and it is time to act. I have let him be my impostor for a while because he was towing the party lines. But he has committed two sins. 1) Attack Senior Citizen 2) Attack our president. Anyway It looks like Zambians here in the USA are good at being impostors. Anyway am here for a short course which ends next week and am going back to my base station in South Africa. I will not blog till then. So treat the current MMD Chief Bootlicker as an impostor until you see the real one in mid July blogging with a South African Flag.
Besides check ,my past posts from South Africa. I write Bootlicker as one word as opposed to this imposter
#20: You think we give a faak?
For the first time, Iam supporting Gen Shikapwasha. It is true the whole issue is trivial and may be that is why Sata has not said anything. But Shikapwasha is Shikapwasha. He spoils his good statement by becoming trivial himself. Asking Judge Kabazo why he changed his name is very foolish, because a lot of us Zambians have changed names due to our backgrounds eg some of us carried our martenal names or our ambilical names which we came to realise that these were not our family names. He asks Judge Kabazo on why he left the bench dishonourably, is this neccessary?. I thought this kind of line had gone with Mangani?
#13 I think you are full of what you described! That was a funeral, in our culture elderly people are expected to behave like properly when they are mourning. If you do not wash your hands after using the toilet do not think that is everyones’ way of life. You and I know that important people are always being watched and whatever they do may be published. Back to the subject, what example are they did the CJ show to the rest of the world?
# 22. If the issue is trivial why is Mr Big nose talking about it then?
This Guy is a practical joker, the Other day he made the joke of the Day by Claiming RB is the Best president Zambia has ever had, Now his asking Kabazo Chanda to explain to the Nation why he changed his name, we don’t Fliping care such are trivial matters that this Shika dont need to mention.
Public office comes with responsibility……when the French coach refused a handshake from the SA coach at the World Cup it he was roundly condemned! The chief justice does not need to be interviewed to comment and apologize…..we demand that he does so by virtue of his office. He snubbed a public figure at a public gathering.
Tamwachishiba chitata ichi, chiwelewele fya. This is the only man on earth who could write a Thesis on how a piece of rock has the same Intellect as a Human Being. His sole research would purely based on him.
Zambia the only country were a wrong will be challenged by a wrong. Example. ” Ask HH where the money for RAMCOZ” in reference to the Zamtel illegal privatization . Now It is ” Ask Why he changed his name to Kabazo Chanda in reference to the embarrassment the judiciary faced at the hand of Thief Injustice Sakalanyongo
Thought I heard Dora Siliya say something “good”; the Chief Justice and Micheal Sata are tribal couzinz and that the greeting snub should be treated az such?

William Crankshaft Ganizani Bwezani Kumbuyo Banda – That is why I said Shikapwasha is Shikapwasha. He is media crazy. If he misses 2 days fro the media, its like fasting for 2 days.
can someone tell me why Judge Kabazo was sent away from the bench and why he changed names. I don’t want to be left out.
This advice is like reminding us not to hold forks by their pointy ends, which rather go into the food
Why all of a sudden the embattled Chief Justice is being defended by the MMD? I thought Sakala should have tried to defend himself? The more the MMd are springing to his defence the more compromised he seem to be seen by us the citizens. If he choses to be quite let him also warn the MMD from defending him and the MMD stop being his spokespersons.
sata is the only man standing in church why. who gave him the floor to be ccrowning around. everyone is seated except him of course. kabazo mumba chanda from high court judge to lecturer call it fall from grace he is on his knees. cj did well to refuse that dirty handshake.
Some of these tuma jonalists are xtra large biased brats, the were supposed to hear both sides before publishing. Post/PF marriage of inconvience, you will go nowhere .Someone is watchin, you shall reap what you sow!!!!!!! :-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”

kamangoche- read #19
# 34 I thought CJ had put his side of the story simple and straight forward, by saying that the two had never shook hands before. So which other side do we need to know about? and what can u say about the MMD/TIMES OF ZAMBIA/DAILY MAIL/LT marriage of conviniece……
Chief govt spokesperson speaks everytime but the only saddness is these unwise people is the use of threats….I speak this then someone will come out and say eweee what about this and that about you?…What is your problem failed GRZ
This Hand Shake thing has being goin on for some time now, dont these pipo have other things to talk about, they need to do the jobs they are paid for, not wasting time on this ma rubbish
The Amazing Super Shikapwasha, The only man in the world who thinks through his nose.Big Nose Shika, your nose is too heavy for you head.
Zambian politicians jump into anything that comes and make a fuss out of it.
Imagine shikas is now spokesperson for the CJ. what a separation of powers!! ya!
The handshake Gate, wow, what a wate os time and money.
#13. You think Sata is like your father who doesn’t bother to wash his hands after a big job?
So pa Zambia ninshi baba busy fifine ninshi incito yamoneka iya kubombela abantu- wasting valuable time on a misguided minister who thinks he’s a minister only for mmd? Pa Zambia paliba comedy yama leader big time.

SOMEONE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!
WE ALL KNOW AMERICAN MMD CADRES USE FAKE ID’s.
Ba Joze
Chekwe
Muzo
Why cant we attack Senior Citizen when he is the chief insulter?
Bootlicker nobody gives a rats arse is your i.d is used.
MMD I.D.I.O.T.S are abused everyday so you make no difference to Zambia.
30 Kamangoche,
Judge chanda left the bench in summary because of the following:
1. Had two masters during his tenure and thought he was the most educated judge.
2. As a result of the above,he was constantly causing trouble at the station by refusing to adhere to legitimate instructions
3. As a result of 2,he at one time discharged more than 10 criminals with impunity on account that there were no witnesses
4.The Police were furious about the actino contending that they risk their lives and one person in the name of judge Chanda cannot just discharge the criminals.
5.This fiasco continued and the police attributed the rise in crime at that time to the discharge of the criminals.
6.
As a result the Judiciary decided to approach the president over his actions and the concerns of
Muzo
Most Zambians dont have proper washing facilities.
Have you seen those STINKING toilets at your showgrounds?
What hope have Zambians got to keep clean.
Your lucky you live in America otherwise you would be stinking too with pupu whatever the hell that is.
We all know Senior citizen does not bathe daily.
He dribbles fecal matter everyday from his mouth.
# 13 I like your vast experience on pupu issues, do you by any chance work for a waste management company ?
6.The judiciary decided to approach the president over his actions and concerns of police
7.Tribunal was instituted
8.Judge Chanda decided to resign on his own contending that all people in the tribunal were his enermies.
He started lecturing at UNZA-To date actually
9.Those who have been taught by him will agree with me that he is a very bitter man with himself and judiciary
#45 MMD Yasila- @ 5 did crime go down after Kabazo left the bench or has it increased?
Today on Radio Phoenix, Dora Siliya defended the sale of Zamtel giving the following reasons:
1) Zamtel was surviving on tax payers’ money
2) Only the 2,060 Zamtel employees were benefiting from this tax
3) Money saved by selling will be used to build extra schools
My Answers to the above:
1) Dora’s government owed Zamtel billions of Kwacha and had this GRZ paid Zamtel, no tax money was going to be channeled to this company.
2) Contrary to Dora’s assertions that selling Zamtel will easy the countries financial problems, the opposite is a fact- half this figure will lose their jobs and I don’t think this will solve our financial problems.
3) If the government did not fail to pay Zamtel, it was going to use the tax money to build schools if they atall cared to so.
enough of this hand shake thing already, pliz our public feagures iam sure u have more important things to do,and Mr Minister u are an honourable for christ sake can the whole of be seen to be attacking a tabloid newspaper and talking about changing of a name as if it is rocket science, pliz you have a mandate to serve the pipo not to respond to statements made by every jim and jack.GET BUSY AND GOD BLESS ZAMBIA
Deja vu,
Iam merely explaining the circumstances that led to Kabazo leaving the bench.Whether that was a plot to remove him,am not privy! But it was clear that he was fixed.Ask anyone senior at Judiciary, they wont tell you a different story from mine!
The Judge did a good thing by not shaking hands with Sata.I fully support him.Sata is on record of condemned the Judiciary. The same sata condemned Chief Justice Sakala when Chiluba sat next to him and shook hands.
Sata is In consistence with his actions and Principles he believes in.
maweee but pa zed iyi nkani yakosa ka. Honestly What The F…:-w
Sata has court cases and the judge should keep his distance from any situation that would compromise him.
Tony Blair put himself in trouble when he shook hand with Mugabe at the funeral of pop John II.
Thumbs up to principled Chief Justice
It is only those who where nearer to Mr.Sata and CJ who can give an independent opinion of what transpired, however, little has been heard from CJ.In all fairness, someone can easly conclude that the two had a grudge against each other.Sata’s attack on the JUDICIARY could be something that has been brewing.
The picture also spoke volumes, one and only SATA standing, everyone touched by the loss of the beloved one.
Other sources review, that comedy started, because Mr.Sata wanted to sit at his reserved SIT,unfortunately the sit was occupied, besides that he also wanted to meet in personal with the DPP.
Mr.sata was preoccupied with DRAM and ended up where the CJ sat.
Let me describe this animal. The other day was busy praising RB that is the best President Zambia has ever had. What a comment! today is on handshake mwebantu. You Shikapwasha what ever u are clalled every one has the right to be ugly, but you abused your privilege, and if I had a nose like yours, I would sue my parents. I really feel sorry for you are so unpleasant but I feel even sorrier for other people because they have to look at you,
#58 you are so funny. I would really like to hear this Reverend’s view on what Chiluba has said about Levy turned courts into playing fields. Would he speak against his relative today coz his normal or he would agree with Kafupi since his RBs political consultant! Our leaders need to change there thinking or else will remain Bakapoli for life!!:((

Bosses shika shika can you also tell us what happened when Chiluba said “Remember I was your Commander” and you apologised quickly. But we know what you did, can you tell the nation what happened ku Tanzania when you were a Diplomat :-w :d if you have the balls we are waiting??
Right on Ronnie! Why didn’t the post seek CJ’s comments? The post news paper’s agenda is plain for all to see. What a disgrace to proffessional journalism.
And everyone who knows Kabazo Chanda and understands the least bit about human behaviour will tell you he is not a man to quote on such issues.
We have lots of thinking to do as a nation in relation to economic development and HIV/AIDS pandemic – let’s focus on these not old ‘wanabees like phyco mata. Abash spending much time on trivialities!!!
They are all foolish! The handshake defense; the change of name; everything is idiocy. I thot pipo should get talking about how to make this nation urbanized, how to insure good tarmacs reach remote areas, coming up with solution on how to promote & support youths with great business ideas to control the economy. why such useless and fruitless discussions and accusations, for what u dull leaders? some people are dieing in hospitals due to poor conditions and no one ever brings out such issue and all u do is talk about pet issues. shame on you ba nyandule!!
Since when did the executive spokesperson became the judiciary spokesperson?
Does separation of powers exist?
45, 48 MMD Yasila I liked your data on retired Judge Chanda especially that he is more qualified than some judges and justices in our Judiciary that made him retire.
Such is why we need a first degree or more degrees holding person as President of Zambia candidate for election. We do not need to reward characters without a certain education to occupy high positions, i.e., Chief Justice without a Bachelor’s degree when his/er subordinates have a degree/a number of degrees or President without degree while juniors have lots of them, in GRZ who will then frustrate the suitably educated for such positions. I hope this will help all Zambians to realise that the degree clause for the office of President in our land in NCC Draft Constitution is good for our great Nation.

Matt 6:33
For humble, mature and wise people, a hand shake is a very important gesture. And for a man of the stature of a Chief Justice in particular, it should go without mention that refusing a hand shake in public is scandalous. By virtue of being the CJ, this man is expected not to be petty and to treat all citizens equal regardless of their status, political affiliations or orientation. Failure to do so diminishes the image of the entire judiciary in the public’s eyes; it simply implies that the CJ and his entire subordinates are selective in their way of dispensing justice. Now, this is very dangerous. Look at KK; this man understands what a hand shake is; he can even shake hands with the likes of ka chiluba, the guy who committed the worst atrocities against him
useless spoekesperson..u are better off dead..
minister of misinformation…hahaha
