The Southern African Center for Construction Resolution of Disputes (SOCCORD) says the ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) will scoop the 2011 general elections if the PF/UPND pact does not resolve its internal conflicts that are emerging.
SACCORD Executive Director Lee Habasonda said that the PF/UPND pact risks losing the support of the people if there problems are not amicably resolved.
He said it is an obvious case to all Zambians that if the two Parties contest the 2011 elections as individuals political parties they will lose the elections.
Mr Habasonda has also observed that the cracks that have emerged in the pact following the fielding of separate candidates in the Kaoma and Chidiza local government elections by the two parties have the potential to weaken the opposition alliance.
He said this will in turn weaken the opposition’s oversight role of providing checks and balances to the MMD government.
Mr Habasonda has since urged the PF/UPND pact to resolve their internal conflict if they are to emerge victorious in the 2011 elections.

I didn’t expect such issues to start happening so soon. Its a pity that reality is begining to unfold, power hungry people who don’t have passion for the majority suffering Zambians.
Lee Habasonda is a failure. he once shared a House with Dickson Jere but look at the progress the young man has made and you are there playing hide and seek in Saccord when we all know that you are in the pact through UPND. Foolish!!!!
#1 Street Daddy it people like you woh should help poor Zambians. However, by supporting HH who was at the centre of privatisation so as to enrich himself at the expense of the same poor people you expect him Save from poverty. How??? When he was pocketing those dollars are telling me there were no poor Zambians in Zambia?
Sata was close to the President -FTJ , are you teeling me that all Zambians were all reach??? Sata fought the Tongas in MMD so badly today becausehe needs their votes they have become good people. Come on People let us think. Remember Change should be from good to better and not to worse Please!!!!
The two leaders in the pact desperately want to occupy plot 1, are preoccupied with removing the MMD from government, have different ideologies and are the only ones in their respective parties who understand the pact. They are united to fight a common “enemy” , what happens after they achieve their goal no one knows. As a voter with no political inclination, you are left wondering who to vote for. It simply can’t add up. One would have thought they would harmonised their manifestos by now and announced who their candidate will be. I rest my case.
lee habasonda and his saccord is it even a funded ngo. he behaves like a hungry person jealousy of the achievements of former housemate dickson. lee we know you are upnd just like muyunda ililonga. you want to stand in bweengwa. get lost lee
#3 WAPYA MUNZI- 2011….I agree with you that change for the sake of it is not good. So whats the way forward? RB or Sata or HH?
As for the Pact, I think it wont work. The ideologies of the parties are too different and even if they harminise them, it wont be easy to harmonise the supporters. The Post is not even helping matters by alleneating one partner of the pact. Lets have RB in 2011, by 2016, we will have clear way forward.
# 5 Marx….so anyone supporting UPND should get lost? am sure you love the Post then! :d:d:d:d thats why your so called ‘Pact’ wont work. The rest of us can just look and laugh! PF alone wont win the polls and that will be the end of PF and Sata and so is the case with UPND and HH!
I think as Zambians we should not be disappointed, (we expected this) some of these things where very visible from the start that the two personalities at the top of pact would never let anyone other than them to rule, it is a pity the boycotted the CRC, coz maybe they could have made a constitution that allows shared presidency. WAPYA MUNZI is spot on, we should not have short memories and don’t just hope that when we open our eyes our problems will be sorted.
Comment 3 shame on you for blaming privatisation on a poor citizen. What could he have done since it was Govt policy to privatise the mines? Was he to blame for taking the opportunity to buy shares in the privatised mines?
Also shame on you men who screw goats when sex is on dispay even on the streets.
Lee Habasonda and SACCORD. what does it concern you who wins 2011. have you become polarised in the political sphere? Resign and disband. chapwa. Am so disgusted!!!!
The fact is that Im tired of the MMD and I feel they are taking Zambia backwards to the days of kaChiluba. So,change is what i want, even if it means RB standing against a hyena,I will vote for a hyena because of its strong jaws.
In desparation, Zambians were willing to vote for ‘whoever else’ other than KK. The result was that one FTJ was handed the presidency without his capacity and tendancies being checked…what did Zambia get? a wasted and disasterous 10 yrs.
As Zambians, we should not repeat that mistake. If RB and MMD are not good enough, we should replace them with someone and a party which is better than them. RB should not be judged on the MMD of Chiluba or that of Mwanawasa, he should be judged on his own merits or demerits.
For starters, Sata was a major part of Chiluba’s MMD so he cant be the alternative to MMD. HH has no political history so he should tell us what he has and so should Milupi and his ADD.
All those who seem to be panicking about the so-called cracks in the pact are either not married or just plain unrealistic. In a marriage , despite all the love once in a while you will have disagreements. some small some big. it is not the arguments themselves that are important rather it is how you handle them that is important. the question all of us pact supporters should ask ourselves is how are the leaders going to handle this lastest phase? personally i am happy we are having these issues now.1 because they will serve as a remind in future by-elections. 2 there is plenty of time to heal before the elections. 3 certain election issues that were unforeseen at the formation of the pact have been exposed. 4 what will not kill the pact will only make it stronger.
PF and UPND are openly competing in Chadidza and Kaoma. As Given Lubinda will be canvassing for votes for his candidate and Charles Kakoma will be equally doing the same. What message will each of these two gentlemen be telling voters not to vote for UPND or PF?
#13 mulo wa ndombe. Intelligent, mature and strategic thought process there. You are spot on. It appears many of the critics have never been in a relationship or even married. explains their reasoning. its my way or the high highway! anyway, if japan is hiring leaders and firing when no results are forthcoming, who are we to keep the same goons for 20+ years?. if PACT doesn’t perform after 2011 5 year mandate, they will kicked out in 2016!! maybe give Veteran, Legacy, MMDbootlicker, Wapya Munzi a chance too.. should they produce rubbish too, they will get the butts kicked out in 2021. Thats the only way we’ll get the economy running and social emancipation a reality. if US has had 4 presidents in last 20 years, who are we to have less and grossly underperforming.
But one thing our PACT needs to do here, and urgently, in withdraw the nomination of one of the candidates immediately. I hope thats what they are doing as we speak. It’s drawing wrong attention and creating unnecessary noise from our critics and nay sayers who are typically running their mouthes like crazy.
lee habasonda is a fkd up ***** with his saccord to support opposition instead of beeing neutral.
The only thing that awaits his surprise is MMD ruling again the next five years,The bantustanism in UPND has finally come to the foe as their silly mentality of bantubotatwe will never fade in their ucivilised minds even if SATA is voted for pact UPND chaps cant vote for him.The post has categoricaly put across their weaknesses which am afraid may be insolvent.Good luck PACTEERS..
This patriotic man is so blind indeed, people do not hate Sata because he is Bemba but due to his past behaviour, and many in these areas are conservatives hence they have no trust for Sata. People of Western province hate Sata because he was the right hand man for Chiluba’s regime. They cannot forget the Chawama Pangas and machetes and you cannot blame them for having such views on Sata because they know that leaders should be judged by their actions. Sata cannot win in North-western province because of Kambwili’s tribal remarks on Luvales, so blame sata for his bad deed and not the people. If the pact will fail I blame the pf who have no respect for others thinking they can do it on their own without small parties.
Sata is not a person people can look up to for good leadership anyway but HH has tried to convince people in his stronghold that he is a good man, though the man is still proving that he has not changed at all. Many people in these areas did not want HH to join Sata especially western province which is so conservative, and you can blame these people if you have a short memory. Remember pf and upnd need each other, the only good thing they can do is to build on their positives and learn from their mistakes, after that move forward, blaming each other will not help them.
The differences that have emerged in the PACT are nothing but expected in an alliance of what might be perceived as apparently two mutually exclusive entities. What is important is to have the root cause of such differences identified and remedied effectively. Even in the MMD they have serious differences; they even fight over food rations! But the PACT should show leadership by being able to amicably resolve their differences in national interest.
number 20 zambia what are talking about just shut up okey!we are talking of two greedy undemocratic brats here in the name of SATA and HH.which national interest to have a dictator like SATA who has never held an election in his own party and bantustan tribalist ka arogant Hakainde ichilema?your own interest and to hell nausilu wako uyo uko kwine atasee iwe ndiwe ofuntha?
With or without the pact, the MMD runs a very high risk of losing next year’s elections
And 2006 is not very long ago even for those with short memories. A poorly organized PF, at that time, nearly swept the MMD out of power. What about the 2008 presidential elections? Who can doubt Michael Sata’s very good performance in that election? Since 2006, PF has been in total control of all the key urban areas of Zambia. CONCLUSION ! PF IS WINING NEXT YEAR !
Who ever thought the PF of Michael and his friend Guy Scott in 2001 that only managed to win about three per cent of the vote in that year would be the PF of 2006, 2008 and today that cannot be written off in any election? ITS POSIBLE FOR THE MMD to lose under either the pact or PF and UPND going it alone.
Why cant Mmembe find a Bemba woman and marry
@# 24 y shud he marry a bemba lady?
Namugala should’nt expect clean politics when she is dirty. Says Shakafuswa. Kapijimpanga has also said the same thing. Are these two in the Pact or they are MMD? Does it smell of a split or what is happening in the MMD? Is this different from what is obtaining in the Pact?
Please read the full article in today’s Post.
The pact was born after many numerous calls from ordinary Zambians. I believe its time we started calling for the merger of these two parties. they have both claimed their ideologies are very similar. That way we will have an even bigger opposition.
