This is the interview Chief Chitumukulu did with radio Mano in which he bemoaned the lack of leadership in the Bemba community citing as a diversion of funds meant for projects in Chinsali as the case was with the Luwingu road when the MMD Government used money meant for that road to fund its convention.
Chief Chitumuku also criticized the leadership of certain political parties that have been formed but lack substance hence most of them fall by the wayside and expressed concern over those who are sponsored politically to demean their tribe for whatever reasons.
On voting, the Chief said that since Bembas were in the majority, they have always determined who becomes President from KK days, voting for whoever they believe in with no tribal lenses and further asked the Bembas to use their numbers and put in the right leadership in place.
Below is the full interview which was done in Bemba
Chitimukulu doesn’t know the backroom politics of decolonisation. I can forgive him for that. Kaunda was not chosen by Bembas but by the British. They even had the British secret service pay for his election expenses. This information is available now after being declassified. Historians hv accessed this information and put it in books which yours truly has read.
God damn this tribally bigoted foolish “chieve”. Just who the hell does he think he is to puke out such tribal vernom?
Zambia will never be truly united. If a chief can talk like this, it means tribal thinking is too entrenched in people. The solution is to divide the country into two or go for a federal system.
Well said Mwine Lubemba. There is no leader in the bemba land who can take on the GRZ. Those we have right now are all corrupt and selfish who just look at their own interests than those of Bembas. Your Highness , know that these Bembas in influential positions are so selfish who are always against the fellow Bemba. While we see other people promote their own, a Bemba would fight and despise his fellow Bemba —– what a sad state of affairs we are in. The general public Bemba has also become useless has it does not know what it wants in as far as voting is concerned. They have all become IMINGULU as they are taken by any wind of a party so long they have a beer. Sad sad indeed Mwine Lu bemba… I also tell them that Ba Zamwiziba Yesu one day , thats when they will wake up…but it will…
Mwine Lubemba is right, Bembas are proving to be a useless majority. There was no reported political violence in Lubemba in 2015 and 2016. We know which tribe beat and killed people from other regions when their tribesman lost elections. Edgar is doing as he wishes because there’s no opposition
Don’t know any bemba president.
Only Chiluba was kind of Bemba.
It is over for PF.
Even PF sends Lusambo led thugs to beat up Bembas, there is no chance… this end of PF.
If indeed this is how Bembas feel, why can’t they just take Luapula, Muchinga and Northern outbid Zambia and firm their own Democratic Republic of Katanga? Then they can be 100% Bemba in their own Bembastan! Look at prisons today, even in Livingston or Mongu they’re all full of Bemba thieves such that the franca lingua in prisons all over Zambia is their Bemba Kasai!
Boss,
I fully agree with you. I mean, if over half a century later a chief can stand and utter such divisive tribal faeces without any consequences, then we have failed to amalgamate. And it’s always Bembas, look at Nkandu Lunyo, not even education could wash away her stinking hegemonic Bemba tribal bigotry!
Mwine Lubemba Chitimukulu Kanyanta-Manga 2 would not have been Chitimukulu if it were not for UPND to recognise him as such because late president Michael Chiluya Sata had threatened to DETHRONE him in preference to a relation of him (Sata). So, when Chitimukulu bemoans the lack of leadership in Bembaland, it’s a big telling. We ask then; What of the noise we get from all those who believe being Bemba and are in PF leadership. For example, Nkandu Luo, Chitotela, Stephen Kampyongo, Kampamba, Ng’andu Mumbi Phiri, etal. Others in Luapula only speak the language but not grouped into Bembas as place of origin.
Mwine Lubemba should learn that ‘Every pain gives a lesson and every lesson changes a person’.
If our universities were research oriented, by now there would research papers on this problem. Whn I travel around Zambia, I see common problems of failing local govt. But here we are not directing our energy on real issues. In the 1960s, UNIP used to stand candidates regardless of their tribal origin. But complaints soon started in letters to newspaper editors. Lack of development was attributed to MPs who did not originate from the provinces in which they were sent to parliament. UNIP changed and stood local candidates. But lack of development continued. Had Kasama Municipal Council not had local leadership, the rot there would probably have been attributed to leaders from other provinces. But they’re all local and the result is still disappointing. This is at best a very…
I have now studied what has caused problem. It is the statement that bembas are the ones who can decide who should be the president in Zambia. A similar statement had put Miles Sampa in problem.
Now we looking other thing he said “we can put anyone in power regardless of tribe” If this is what was only said the Chief could have received praises.
From the realms of Lambaland/Lenjeland emerged a son of the soil who showed Bembas and Nyanja how it is done! That son of the soil was Levy Patrick Mwanawasa! A chief awakens and claims his clan are the king-makers in a vast land with 79% other inhabitants? What an insult to the 79% inhabitants! Does he even know what ‘POWER OF THE UNIFIED PEOPLE MEANS?
It will be fair if someone gave us statistical figures of all the 73 tribes, because of late some people think that just the mere fact that their ligua is used in urban bus stations, markets and political songs they feel everyone who speaks this language is their clansman.
Why was Chishimba Kambwili barred from attending his own ceremony the Kusefya pa ng’wena. I propose an investigation to this devilish act, who started it, who implemented it, who else was involved. It is the only ceremony in Zambia that has undertaken such a draconian and harsh punishment on an innocent citizen, if such things are not stopped, they might appear to be normal when not.
Well wise words. Zambian leadership is useless; it starts from Statehouse to local governments. So stupid. The Chief is right; you will know Jesus Christ. with your Foolish voting. Vote for this Foolish Government again.
I shudder to ask what lack of leadership or representation His Royal Highness Mwine Lubemba Manga II is bemoning when more than half of cabinet ministers, PSs and top government and quasi government institutions are from his domain?
What is good for gander is also good for goose. Can you compare the interview of Mwinelubemba and the Known politician Chief Mukuni, who has been campaigning for his perpetual tribematelosers?
It will be fair if someone gave us statistical figures of all the 73 tribes, because of late some people think that just the mere fact that their ligua is used in urban bus stations, markets and political songs they feel everyone who speaks this language is their clansman.
If i was Bemba i would be ashamed of myself, But sorry iam Tonga. In short the Chief is saying that Bemba leaders are always corrupt & distructive.Which then means, if yo Chief cant trust u, we cant trust u either. There you are, even your King dont ve faith in putting u as leaders. That tells alot. If it was my own Chief Mukuni or any Southern Chief, i wud ve doubted them or i wud label them tribalist even when am Tonga myself. But u guys u ve a father, a Grandfather, a community leader talking like this. Then u ve serious problems , u need to go back to the drawing board. ASAP!
Zambia is for us all and we need to focus on building it than (you) destroying it. I dont think even if u went back to Congo they ll accept you there.Cos they long forgot abt u already since u left. So, Zambia is all u ve now – Sober up!
it is very interesting that the interview was in bemba and all Zambians got the message . it shows how Zambian we are. we need leaderships in all tribes. Leadership is complex .
The essence of being Chief or King is to champion his ethnicity, his tribe or his belief system to which his followers subscribe. Tanzania watered down chiefdoms precisely for that purpose. They united under the banner of kiSwahili. When the Chief speaks this way he is expressing the identity of his followers. He is inherently championing his tribal grouping. Is he wrong? NO. He is also bringing out some facts such as the fact that we have actually never had a Bemba President. I do not care whether you call Chiluba Bemba or not. He was NOT Bemba at all. It would be like saying the Nkoyas are siLozi.
Whn Michael Sata was stopping Henry Kanyanta Sosala being installed as Chitimukulu, where was Sunday Chanda? That’s whn he needed u most.
I haven’t seen anything wrong with what bashilubemba said ,he was just expressing his disappointment over some of his subjects who are not serious in politics and eventually lose direction .
He talked about how some regions and their leaders are committed to their regions and want take everything for themselves , he included that his subjects are more in numbers but lack coordination to do what is right for themselves, he said no bemba has actually ruled Zambia except Chiluba FTJ . He included that bembas don’t mind who ever becomes president as they freely vote for any one because they the deciding vote in Zambia , the former presidents kaunda from malawi, mwanawasa lenje , rupia banda ngoni , then lungu tumbuka he only forgot about sata who was bemba like chiluba .
It was quite…
Comment: Imagine this was uttered by chief Moonze or chief Mukuni of the tonga people?
No wonder sata failed to recognize him as chief. Even in his perpetually ganga high mentality he still knew this guy was not the right choice.
@mukutad that’s the more reason why one has to be careful in their perception of the chief’s sentiments on national matters. Clearly those trying to fault Kanabesa are only exposing their ‘mungulu’ coz he has just demonstrated an amazing sense of impartiality and equitable stand point as chief of the country’s largest tribal grouping
This is not the first time and it won’t be the last that this Chief engages in this dog -whistle politics type of statements aimed at reinforcing tribal superiority in “his” people and slyly denigrating other tribes – especially those from the South. Not all of us are foolish. We can decode what you are doing. Nation building and unity is anathema to him. He has delusions of grandeur- little wonder he is a keen proponent of Bill 10. Nyerere had it right by doing away with such dangerous, retrogressive chieftaincy.
Well articulated Chamu, only Zambian Tr!balists with a warped sense of entitlement & superiority see nothing wrong this dangerous Chitimukulu’s sentiments. A person like Kanyanta is so dangerous to national unity, even his own Michael Sata had the forsight to see this “Chief” is capable of turning Zambia into Rwanda.
I also believe the majority of his subjects i.e Luo harbor such toxic sentiments hence only the Bemba’s are enjoying positions in Government, Parastatals & other strategic posts.
SO MUCH FOR ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION.
If such Superiority complex persists in these ex-Katangese, there’s unfortunately a real risk of Zambia fragmenting, as ba Lozi are already agitating for breaking away & who would blame them?
Which ba lozi want to break away??? Why are PF winning in western province?? North western is equally following suit. It is the 2015 tribal drive spearheaded by upnd that caused this-the hate and lies in the media all from known imperialists targeting our resources. And it has come to light that significant gold and new oil deposits exist!! Zambia will remain one nation, these pathetic tribalists in opposition will pass and new leadership will take this nation forward.
