Transparency International Zambia has noted with optimism, the move by the Auditor General’s office to track all donations made towards Zambia’s fight against the coronavirus.

The TIZ has welcomed the move which they say is an important step towards responding to the concerns that have been expressed by different stakeholders on the management of donations made towards the fight against this pandemic.

Maurice Nyambe, the Organisation Executive Director is optimistic that the Auditor General’s move to monitor the donated resources will increase public confidence in the management of all donations made and increases the likelihood of those resources reaching and benefiting their intended targets.

Mr Nyambe said when all stakeholders put their efforts together in a transparent, open and corrupt-free manner, the war against Covid-19 will be won.

He said those charged with the responsibility to verify the use of the Covid-19 funds will do it diligently and report all irregularities without fear or favour.

Mr Nyambe said TIZ will follow the auditing process with keen interest and has called on all those involved in managing these donations to adhere to the guidelines, laws and regulations governing the prudent management of public resources.

  1. It’s too late. They have already transferred money to swiss accounts. What a banana republic. Zambians can be do dull at times . It is time to rise up and start a revolution. To get what you want a few million people have to die. Regime change requires putting your life on the line.

  3. Good Accountability of donated funds will unlock more funding! It’s therefore in order that the minister of Health tones down and learn to follow procedure! The Minister of Finance should put his foot down and ensure every dollar donated towards COVID is accounted for and all expenditure must be JUSTIFIED! The cry of Bureaucracy by MOH is misplaced as these are public funds that must be Subject to Financial Reporting rules. All MOH and MOF need is to work out a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and see how things can be streamlined. A blatant disregard of procedure by MOH raises a lot of Red Flags. This is what puts off a lot of individuals and organizations from donating! Transparency and Accountability are key ingredients in unlocking more funding!

  4. The Auditor-Generals’ office has no ‘teeth’ of it’s own. Further, several of it’s reports over the misappropriation of billions have never been acted upon by those bestowed with such responsibility. Perhaps because the complicity in such thefts is interwoven in the labyrinth of the corridors of power. Who will chase who? I have no confidence in any outcomes whatsoever, even where the initial endeavour may be noble
