LAP Green to inject $125 million in Zamtel

Share

The Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAP), the Uganda Telecom parent company, will invest at least $125 million in , Zamtel. LAP GreenN, the group’s telecom arm, recently acquired the operations of Zamtel.

Mr Hans Paulsen, the newly appointed chief executive officer of Zamtel told Daily Monitor in Kampala last week that the money will be invested in the telecom operations in the next two years under the LAP Green Network. He said: “The investment will mainly go into restructuring the company; acquiring new technology, building a 3G network, extending network coverage and at the same time re-launch the brand.”

The plan comes on the back of LAP’s 75 per cent stake in the company leaving the Zambian government with a 25 per cent interest. The investment will also reinforce LAP’s ambitious plan of increasing Zamtel’s subscriber base from 300,000 mobile phone and landline subscribers to 1 million subscribers by the end of 2010. Mr Paulsen said: “Our target is to cross the one million mark before the end of the year.”

LAP GreenN has operations in eight African countries including; Uganda, Rwanda, Niger, Ivory Coast, Zambia, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, and Togo. It has a total subscription platform of 5.2 million customers compared to MTN’s 100 million plus and 42 million for Zain Africa operations.

  1. Zambia has taken over the Africa Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) Forum for the next one year following an African Ministerial Consultative Group meeting held in Washington DC. This is according to a statement released to Lusakatimes by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Embassy in the United States of America B.e.n K.a.n.g.w.a.Bloggers(this is your MMD Chief bootlicker)Thats why he posts nonsense cause he is comfortable.

  2. So MMD Chief booklicker you are really B.e.n K. your postings are contrary from what I had thought you were. I wish you were here in Zambia to see what people are going through you wouldnt write such nonsense. Any way 2011 is just around the corner.

  3. Ya the shallowness and ignorance exhibited by some people like #1 & #2 is truly award wining. I don’t hide under any fake ID and I have used my ID since I started blogging and it is no secret that am at the SA embassy. I find it strange to believe that people would believe that am in Washington. Check my flag and check the time zones I blog in.

Even a 3 year old kid would not come to your conclusion. I must say your lack or analytical skills is really legendary. How did you make it in life this far with such degraded analytical skills?

  4. You have been busted MMD Chief Bootlicker (A** licker) you thought you would hide for long.hehehehehehehehehehe, how can you be in two places at the same time. You are so filth B.E.N K.A.N.G.W.A just cause you are given a job for A** licking does not make youa genius.hehehehehhehe.fool.

  5. Zambia cant fail to raise $125m but for misplaced priorities, lack of political will and the high propensity to corruption! Such headlines mean nothing…dont think we are fools!

  6. #6, Why would the goverment of Zambia sink another US$125m in Zamtel when it could use it to build houses, build roads, build schools, extend electrification to rural areas etc… Do you know the meaning of opportunity cost. Don’t be a parrot. Learn to think. Let other people bring their money and then let the government float their 25% shares to the public. If you love Zamtel so much you could then buy shares of your own in the company.

  7. why the constatnt attacks on the MMD chief boot licker….. stick to the facts, thats why zambia is such a dilapidated useless country, because the majority of the population would rather point fingers than engage in building of the nation. any normal free thinking zambian would plan to buy shares in this venture, that way when the profits are realized u too can enjoy in the wealth of the country, but instead you point fingers and get mad at the people who have the lifestyle you crave.

  8. Chief Bootlicker (after the boot walts thru sh.i.t), the flag doesnt really indicate where on is. I am in Zambia but I have a Tanzanian flag. Why hide where u are?

  9. Zamtel will be floating soon. I better start talking to some brokers so I can have some stock in the company.

On another note, I think people that are attacking MMD Chief Bootlicker are doing so because they cannot debunk his arguments. It is common knowledge that when people are faced with an argument they cannot challenge, they resort to ad hominems which is attacking the person making the argument rather than addressing the argument.

In short, he has outsmarted you and you cannot challenge him on issues, so you resort to personalities and attacking him personally. If what he says is rubbish as you claim, then it shouldn’t be so hard to challenge or debunk his arguments.

  10. Odi uko…. is that our new Zamtel arriving? I kinda like this kind of optimism and ambition…….I think we are on to good tidings. MMD Oye…….., Dora Oye………

  11. In a newspaper today:
Libya conned of $4m in Zimbabwean deal
The Libyan government company LAP was conned of $4 million (Sh320) by a Zimbabwean national who was overseeing its investments in the southern African country. The case now before a Harare magistrate is set to expose Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s shadowy investments in Zimbabwe.
    Strong business links
Gaddafi has been rumoured to have strong business links with President Robert Mugabe and his family.
In 2002, Mugabe’s eccentric wife Grace was said to have sold a mansion in of one of Harare’s plush suburbs to Gaddafi for $5 million

  12. Summary: South African wireless group Vodacom is close to signing a deal with Libya’s state investment vehicle Libya Libya (l?b`??), officially Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahirya [state of the masses], republic (2005 est. pop. 5,766,000), 679,358 sq mi (1,759,540 sq km), N Africa.

  13. Ubupuba pa Zambia! Do you honestly think that Zamtel could not have survived in the hands of a capable Zambian? You go an play along with the racists that have worked tirelessly to wrestle every small company our father Kaunda built for us to take over, out of black hands? These Arabs are backed by their own governments you i.d.i.o.t.s!! These leaders behave like little children!!

  14. #14 Unworried Bachelor….I feel your pain my brother, we are in it together. The same mentality that most zambians would prefer an imported shoe or suit and boast that they were imported things is the same mentality our leaders have. To them only foreigners are capable. Its such a shame in Zambia that as a citizen, when you start a ka bussiness, not tax incentive but ba mwisa are given tax breaks what a country?

  15. Imwe can’t u see that we will be having another group of pipo being offloaded into the streets. these guys will come with the tech as they are capitalists and interested in maximizing their profits. bushe pa zed is there no one who could run zamtel and make it survive. NDEFWAYA NDYEMO is too much pa zed thats why we will never develop. Zamtel is a strategic company and could have been left for Zambia to run. It is the way it is coz the so called policy makers were abusing it. using the facility and not paying for it. The majority shares in priavte hands God 1 day we will juz wake up and find there is no communication. mwelesa twafweni

  16. narrow mindednes is when you believe that zambians can’t run Zamtel, but another government institution like LAP can do it. wake up! If MMD fails to run Zamtel and indoctrinate you that it is only Libya which can run, i am sorry to say some of us belive in the capabilities of Zambia. What argument do I expect from a defeated mind like some of you. If Zamtel (From PTC days) was viable for many years, I believe the same zambians can sustain it if MMD stop making free calls. ZCCM, which was one of the biggest conglomarates in Africa, could have survived if we didn’t have shallow thinkers. Rule of Thumb. ‘If a person murders he can kill again. If a child passes no.1 he can do it again. If a zambian can run & sustain ZCCM & Zamtel, they improve upon it and run better. isn’t the solution!

  17. This deal was pure greed, how can you own 25% of a company and claim to have any kind of control? They will invest, prices will probably go up and they will make a profit.

  18. Lap Green Vs Zamtel …………..mwawee, lets keep our eyes open and ears to the growth ,my Uncles,Aunts and friends at should not suffer…imwee na optic fibre was part of the deal….watching you from heaven

  19. I do not even know how I finished up here, however I believed this submit was good. I don’t know who you’re but definitely you’re going to a well-known blogger in the event you are not already. Cheers!

  20. I loved as much as you’ll receive performed right here. The caricature is attractive, your authored subject matter stylish. nevertheless, you command get got an impatience over that you wish be handing over the following. ill indubitably come more earlier once more since precisely the same just about very often within case you protect this increase.

  21. Definitely believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the easiest factor to take into account of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed whilst folks consider issues that they plainly don’t recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the whole thing with no need side effect , other folks can take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
