Faz Eyes Arthur Davies For Comoros Game

Share

It is amazing what an electronic scoreboard can do for a stadiums reputation.

Faz announced today that Arthur Davies stadium in Kitwe might host Zambia’s opening 2012 Africa Cup Group C qualifying game against the Comoros Islands on September 4.

Power Dynamos sponsors Copperbelt Energy two weeks ago commissioned the first electronic scoreboard at the clubs Arthur Davies home ground, a first for a team in the Super Division and on the Copperbelt.

The venue, together with Nchanga stadium in Chingola, had previously alternated with Independence stadium to host international matches just 10 years ago.

However five years ago, Arthur Davies and Nchanga were later overlooked for both junior and senior matches with Konkola stadium in Chililabombwe hosting the latter’s matches while Nkoloma in Lusaka hosted the formers games.

Previous excuses of capacity and Fifa safety guidelines seem not to have played a factor for Arthur Davies this time around thanks to a gleaming new electronic scoreboard at the venue that Power officials say can sit 15000.

Meanwhile, the venue which last hosted a Zambia game on December 14 2005 when they beat DR Congo 4-1 in a friendly under then coach Patrick Phiri, has always been a sentimental favorite for  player’s.

Players speak intimately of the in-your-face atmosphere generated from the steep stands in the close confines of Arthur Davies and also a tight pitch that suits the teams passing game.

  1. ARTHUR DAVIS STADUIM, THOUGH SMALL, IS THE BEST STADUIM IN ZAMBIA.. AND KITWE, THOUGH OVERLOOKED, IS THE HOME OF ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL.

  2. The government always favours Lusaka and Ndola when it comes to major projects like stadia, and neglects cities like Kitwe with a much more solid football tradition than either Lusaka, Ndola, and, (my foot!) Livingstone. Apart from this, Kitwe is very centrally located geographically on the Copperbelt, being equidistant to virtually all other towns in the province, and would have thus served CB football fans well if an international stadium was constructed there. But, no, according LPM and the MMD, it had to be Ndola. Thank God for Arthur Davies who bequeathed a stadium to us! May his blessed soul rest in eternal peace.

  3. They should have increased the sitting capacity as well. It was always difficult to follow proceedings whenever the stadium was filled to capacity. Electronic scoreboard is a very good idea, keep it up. In future, a stadium in Kitwe can do due to its central location. Ndola deserves a stadium too.

  4. Arthur Davis Stadium with “A new electronic board” will host the Zambia – Comoros Island game! Motivation? A new electronic board! Sitting capacity? 15,000! Ba Zambia ubungwa!

  5. multi national banks can you also build some infrastructure please. Zanaco your staduim is an eyesore you could do better with the billions of profits you making. naimwe ba zain, mtn dont just give away houses pliz invest in social infrastructure

  6. #4 and #5 good observation! Ala ubungwa mu GRZ bane! Lack of foresight! They failed to host Africa Cup twice before and with drew in dying minutes of the second half and no one can think of getting four or more modern stadia! Capacity 15,000! Ubupuba!
