ZESCO will tomorrow shut down two generators at Kafue Gorge power station to facilitate for maintenance works on generators number one and two.

Senior manager for marketing and public relations, Lucy Zimba said yesterday in a statement that as a result of the generator outage, 330 mega watts would not be available on the national grid.

She said this would create a power deficit that would necessitate power rationing in form of increased load-shedding during the peak period.

“Zesco would like to inform its customers of the shutdown of two generators at Kafue Gorge power station with effect from Saturday, August 14 at 21:00 hours to Sunday 15th 2010 at 21:00 hours,” she said.

Ms Zimba appealed to its customers to switch off as many electrical appliances as possible, particularly during the peak hours.

  1. There you go again. Instead of buying more so that theyhave an altenative standby ones, they are busy shutting down the few they have in the midst of Power charges increaments. Zambia sucks sometimes, the Power utility company does not increase power charges to the Mines, that are making supper profits but overcharges on domestic consumers who are lowly paid

  2. BA ZESCO PLEASE DONT INCOVINIENCE US FURTHER BCOS WE ARE PAYING SO MUCH AND NEED A STEADY AND UNDISTURBED FLOW OF POWER. YOU INCREASED TARRIFS THIS MONTH AND IF YOU HAD PLANNED WELL THIS SHOULD ENABLE YOU HAVE ENOUGH GENERATORS. PLIZ I DONT WANT POWER BLACKOUTS IN MY HOME

  4. Zesco please stop embarrassing the country. U increased tariffs with yo foolish claims 2gether with that foolish BoZ governor who was busy supporting the increase that it was meant to increase electricity production. Now why are u still relying on those old generators instead of buying new ones when u have more revenues? Zoona pa ZED pa chabe chabe, atase! Everything is now marabishi yekayeka. Id.i.o.ts!

  5. No 5 you are right. I really agree with you. These f.o.o.l.s are just reaping what they did not sow. They have not invested a single ngwee in all this reap up. Just fattening themselves with huge salaries coupled with free free power. They stink. Mafi yeka yeka.

  6. ZESCO has been in existence for too long. When will they stop announcing such stone-age issues? You mean they cannot grow as a power utility such that we don’t always have to excuse them for their inadequacies? What happens to all the profits you make every year? Can’t you expand and save us this rubbish?:-w

  7. With the money we are paying I am sure Zesco can import power to cover for the deficit. But since this money is being raised for MMD campaigns I m sure they cannot import
