The Cooperation Council on Africa (CCA) has expressed interest in promoting investment opportunities in Zambia.

The CCA President Stephen Hayes said the council was interested in “business match-making” between companies in the United States of America and Zambia.

Mr. Hayes said this when he paid a courtesy call on Zambian Ambassador to the United States of America Sheila Siwela at the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC. USA yesterday.

This is according to a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today by First Secretary for Press at the US Embassy in Washington, Ben Kangwa.

“Our interest would be to find legitimate American companies that can do business with their counterparts in Zambia” Mr. Hayes said.

Earlier, Ambassador Sheila Siwela commended the CCA for its efforts in strengthening commercial relationships between Africa and the USA .

Ms. Siwela hoped that the CCA would work towards building investment partnerships between business people in America and those in Zambia.

The CCA was established in 1993 and has a membership of about 200 US companies that work closely with governments, multilateral groups and business to improve trade and investment climate in Africa and raise the continent’s profile among the business community in America.

The organization is dedicated to bringing together potential business partners and to showcase business opportunities on the Africa continent.

  1. #1, i dont understand your thinking, where does P.F. come in in this story?
    like #2 has said, i also think you are a fo.ol. C.H.I.K.A.L.A.

  2. @ #2 pandukani banda and #3 TUGILIGILI BOYS

I am not bring PF in the story. That is just my username. The other part about China is my headline. Before it was “3 E’s steering economic growth”, now it is that one.

All I said was great news. I have been using that headline for 3 days now and you just bring it up now? Kind of suspect if you ask me.

  3. Why the Insults……lets be civil. You might be right that China is the second largest economy so far now but if i asked you what is there to celebrate. nothing we still linger in poverty. we dont even know where we are headed …..doooomed!

  4. It seems my headline is causing some controversy and is shifting attention from the above story. Fine, i’ll change it back.

  5. #1 PF has never been against China as such but certainly against brief case investers and traders in plates and tomatoes. We need investers in Zambia and not traders, that should be left to ZAmbians. Also China has terrible practices e.g no regard for the environment or for workers etc and they are just plundering our natural resources cheaply, Our natural reources should bring development to our Country. So whether they are world no. 2 they must meet our conditions/ terms. We can’t just take anything from them just because they are number in the World. Please do not distort or deliberately misrepresent information. Be honest to yourself and to others

  6. Well, lets see if this is going to be the right investment opportunity in Zambia! right??.

  7. # 1 careful with PF and are you really a zambian? Have you seen the way we are being governed by RB & CO LTD.China can invest in zambia but not to bring traders and machinists.Very soon zambians will be out numbered by these hypocrites.

  8. @ #6 dogma998, #9 Malume and #11 baba

The point of putting up the headline is to show PF that they should reconsider their foreign policy.

As for the comments about traders, no one stopped Zambians from being traders the same way no one forced Zambians to be buying from the Chinese. There is no policy that states that Zambians must spend a certain percentage of their income buying goods sold by the Chinese.

Money has got a powerful voice. If you don’t buy from the Chinese, they’ll be no incentive for them to be here. That is the powerful voice of money. You guys buy from the Chinese and not Zambians, you have yourselves to blame.

  9. Malumehas it wrong eh! if you go down south or even in the west you find the chinese everwhere, they have what they call China Towns shops everywhere….i agree with Capitalist on this one, besides we know that the new mines are now being mined by the chinese no brief case in that matter Investment in Lumwana was in million of US dollars. My cry is that even when we sold the mines we undervalued the costings and the policies that we have put in place will benefit more on China than ourselves. I guess this goes to all investments we have entered into. I agree that the investor has to get something but not to reap us off. Thats my concern. As to whether they can invest in Zed yes they can where do u think we shall find the means to invest when Chiluba and his minons have finished the money.

  10. Currently we are being told that Lumwana has hidden Gold deposits worth over a 1 $bn when we sold the premises to HITECH at $50million.

The milti economic zones will attract Chinese firms who will see us all sorts of products . Huge profits end up in China what do we end up with ……..nothing doomed just like i said in my earlier statement.

  11. Apr 24, 2007 … “I will chase all foreign investors including Rabobank, they will have to go back because Zanaco is our bank,” says Sata

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Michael Sata has said PF would repossess the vast land which President Levy Mwanawasa’s government is currently allocating to foreigners. And Sata wondered who was more dignified between Moses Katumbi and former president Frederick Chiluba, particularly that the Zambian government has opted to handle Katumbi’s corruption allegations away from the public.

  13. He further warned that his government would also grab the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZNCB) from Rabobank.

“I will chase Rabobank, they will have to go back .Sata accused President Mwanawasa of cheating Zambians over the issue of DRC’s Katanga Province governor Moses Katumbi.

  14. Ba dogma!13&#14 spot on!!
China remains inclined to stop at nothing. China towns are global features these days. you find them everywhere. wonder whenever they will reach Zambia to claim Zambia!!.. it’s a a global village anyway!!

  15. MWEMACHONA, THIS IS GOOD NEWS FOR ZAMBIA. FIRST AFTER INDEPENDENCE ,OUR ECONOMY WAS PUT IN THE HANDS OF ZAMBIANS.ZAMBIA THEN EARNING 6000 US DOLLARS PER CAPITA, PRODUCING ABOUT 750,000 METRIC TONNES OF COPPER PER YEAR,SECOND IN THE WORLD. THEN THE DOWNTURN SET IN AS WE DID NOT HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE OF RUNNING BUSNESS AND RECAPITALIZATION.THIS IS WERE PARTNERSHIP COMES IN PLAY MWEMACHONA. THE TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFER FROM THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE RUN BIG ECONOMY TO US WHO JUST KNOW HOW TO HARVEST WHAT WE DID’NT PLANT. OUR WORK CULTURE AND ATTITUDE IS VERY POOR. WE DO NOT HAVE THE PATIENCE TO WAIT FOR THE BUSNESS TO MATURE AND START MAKING PROFITS. WE ARE KNOWN TO PLUNDER THE LITTLE RESOURCE BEFORE TIME.

  16. # Ask your self why Zambia have NO big investors from US or UK. We are used with sub-standard and corrupt services. So this is mere talk. I can bet with all jumping,we wont see any single REAL investment fron US in the near future.

  17. Motsepe..

The UK?????Currently china has the biggest investments in Africa. Mind you the chinese economy is bigger than the UK . The Americans have the biggest economy in the world but China currently is the fastest growing economy . The reason why now Japan has been pushed to number 3. The Americans will only came to mine urainuim in Zambia ..

The main issue is with our policy makers what sort of incentives have we laid on the table for investment. Its surprising that we have put up policies which in the long run exploit us (in other words our policies favour more the investor to the extent that they exploit us.)

There is no country which doesnt need investment but its the manner in which thet investment is being done.

Dont think the British will ever invest here.

  18. YES YOU CAN COME TO ZAMBIA THE ATMOSPHERE IS VERY CONDUSIVE FOR INVESTIMENT. THIS WILL HELP GROW THE ECONOMY. BA PF YOU JUST LIKE URGUMENTS SATA HAS SAID IT TIME AND AGAIN THAT HE WILL CHASE THE 2ND LARGEST ECONOMY CHINA IF HE CAME INTO POWER AND SUBSTITUTE IT WITH TAIWAN.

  19. we are able to invite investors whom sata calls infesters bcos of good governance and transparancy. our economy is doing very well bcos of policies HERB is following. imf and world bank talk good of us its only ba pf who see no good

  20. Instment world over is good if it brings wealth to the people. Chinise investment is 100% welcome but we do not welcome their exploitative behaviour…paying miners K30 000 per day, selling salaula in Soweto markt, selling tujilijili in soweto markt,…we say no to this coz these are businesses for the poor zambians whom GRZ has dispised.
