Southern Province Deserves Development-RB

Share

President Banda talks to journalists at Lusaka city airport.

President Rupiah Banda says the People of Southern Province like other parts of the country deserve development. President Banda says this is because they are also part of Zambia despite their political or any other affiliation.

He says although the people in the province are presumed to be supporters of opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) government has a duty to deliver development without discrimination. He says his government is about the people and development not petty politics.

The President was speaking at Munyeke bridge in Chief Mapanza’s area in Choma district yesterday. This was when he visited the area to inspect the newly built Munyeke bridge on the new Choma-Namwala road.

President Banda said projects such as the Choma-Namwala road were important to the development of the area because everyone will benefit. Mr. Banda said it was strange that some people were condemning the works that have been done on the road describing the workmanship as poor.

He said this was wrong because it was not in the interest of the people of Southern Province. Mr. Banda challenged those opposing the development to work hard and become leaders so that they can show the people what they are capable of doing.

He said his critics know that developments such as construction of roads were not cheap undertakings because they involve huge sums of money. “I am sad that those who oppose me in almost everything I do have deliberately chosen to mislead the people by making them think that development can be taken to all parts of the country at once,” he said.

He said leaders such as UPND president Hakainde Hichilema have nothing to offer because they are always opposing government efforts to take development to all parts of the country. He advised people in the area to reject him because he has the potential to divide the country based on tribe.

The President said Zambians would never allow a person who cherishes tribalism to rule them because they have always lived together as brothers and sisters. He said Mr. Hichilema has continued to call him names because he cannot believe the work government was doing to serve the people in the country.

“He has been calling me a dull old man, a stupid man and I can tell you that if being dull and old means taking development to the people then I chose to be one,” said President Banda amid shouts of praise from the people. The President urged the people of Southern Province not to allow themselves to be cheated by some people that it was disgraceful to ask for development.

He said the people of Southern Province will not be made to wait for UPND and Mr. Hichilema to ascend to power to receive development because the opposition party has no chance to rule the country.

The President advised Mr. Hichilema to be patient and mature if he wishes to rule the country. He wondered why Mr. Hichilema thinks he was stupid when he has managed to develop the economy and various other sectors.

“Under my administration we have recorded a bumper harvest due to our good agricultural policies and people are happy that we shall not starve but we will be able to keep our dignity by feeding ourselves and I am happy we have together achieved all these things,” he said.

He said Zambia is a big country and that anybody wishing to become president must have the support of all Zambian people not just one province. “I advise the young man to take it easy. He is too quick, he must learn how he can become a national leader because he needs all of us,” said the President.

He said every Zambian has the right to demand for development regardless of their political or religious affiliation. He said every Zambian should be proud of the equitable development in all parts of the country an indication that government wants to develop all parts of the country.

The President appealed to the people of Southern Province to partner with his government as opposed to waiting for a person to become president. He said his policy was to ensure that the entire nine provinces in country produce a leader so that all other parts can easily support them.

“If you want to produce a president you must be prepared to support others because you will need them anyway,” he said.

President Banda is accompanied to Southern Province by Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti, Education Minister Dora Siliya, Local Government and Housing Minister , Eustakio Kazonga and Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe.

  1. Somebody please update the nation on the developments of the building of Roads, power station, stadiums etc that GRZ signed some time back with the Chinese. These sugar coated stories should be followed up please

  2. “””President Rupiah Banda says the People of Southern Province like other parts of the country deserve development.”””” He has just descovered that Southern Province is part of Zambia..hypocrisy

  3. The old man shud stop dreaming. How does he develop southern province when he is ever in the air like vasco da gama touring the world (kamwendo munjila). Voonela ku ukulu. Its like he is now getting confused with his trips now such that when he visits zambia he has to “sabaila” somehow.

  4. THIS IS JUST A 2011 ELECTION GIMMICK. THE SOUTHERN PROVINCE HAS JUST BEEN DISCOVERED DURING THIS TRIP. THE MAN HAS BEEN BUSY VISITING PLACES ABROAD. SINCE ELECTIONS ARE AROUND THE CORNER HE WANTS TO DISCOVER MORE PLACES WHICH COULD BE PART OF ZAMBIA AND TAKE DEVELOPMENT THERE. TOO LATE. BY THE TIME HE GOES ROUND THE COUNTRY WE SHALL BE ELECTING ANOTHER GOVERNMENTTO REMOVE HIM. SORRY BADALA KWAMANA.

  5. HE please every part of Zambia needs development. I know you are there just to try to finish off HH just as you used Kafupi to decampaign Sata in LP and CB. Chiefs are just eating your money and time because they no longer wield power.

  6. RB THANK YOU FOR DOING A JOB WHICH KK, FTJ, AND LEVY COULDNT DO FOR THE PIPO OF SOUTHERN PROVINCE. YOU COULD HAVE CHOSEN TO IGNORE IT AS WELL BUT BCOS YOU WANT TO SHARE THE NATIONAL CAKE EQUALLY TODAY CHOMA NAMWALA ROAD IS REAL. I GUESS MAJOR CHIZYUKA AND HACHIPUKA HAS PLAYED A ROLE IN THIS. BA HH WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE PIPO OF SOUTHERN PROVINCE TOGETHER WITH YOUR BLIND VUVUZELAS ABENA NKOMBO, SEJANI SYAKALIMA. LEARN TO APPRECIATE GOOD THINGS MAKANDI YENU

  7. Pls Zambians let us act responsibly! even if you hate someone, pls appreciate the good that he has done e.g Development in southern province whether becoz elections are near or not. Say thanx but still maintain your stand to vote your choice during elections…its simple!!!!!
Some are saying that, most of the projects where started by Mwanawasa, but there is no project started by Mwanawasa but MMD and whether Mwanawasa or RB or Mpombo it is still MMD.

Let us be objective, sincere and godly.

    May God bless you all!!!

  8. RB went to southern province to pay eye service. He thinks mmd will win in that part but he can forget it he can never win in that part. It is RB that wants to divine the country on tribal lines like his government appointments shows so let him keep his foolish thoughts to himself. Southern province does not need RB or MMD. Come 2011 southern province will talk.

  9. #6 MAY GOD BLESS YOU.YOU HAVE SAID IT WITH ANY HATE.HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE INHERITED PROJECT AND FAILED TO FINISH THEM. HE THAT FINISHES WELL HAS FINISHED INDEED. WE BUILD THE NATION ON THE FOUNDATION OF OTHERS. OR WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF OTHERS TO REACH THE NATION GOALS. RB HAS SCORED A NATIONAL GOAL.I AM “JEALOUS” OF RB’S LUCK ON MANY SECTORS OF THE ECONOMY. RB IT IS YOUR TIME.WORK AND SHAME THE DEVIL.

  10. #7 real issue man thats the spirit. let us give praise were its due, criticism for the sake of it will take it nowhere. the road is now complete after 46 years and this morning on radio phonix calculator boy HH was condemning the works on choma namwala road that they are shoddy and coruption played hands. HH you fail to pay your guards at coinmasters they go for months without pay yet you think you can look after the welfare of vast zambia. grow up HH and your cronies

  11. chwe chwe chwechwe!!!!!!!.This government is at working in this forsaken province.MP’s in this province just enrich themselves with the CDF.Thank God Hachipuka,Matongo, Chizyuka etc have come back to their senses.

  12. When RB finishes a project they say it is Mwanawasa who started it and yet the same ones will be complaining that he is abandoning Mwanawasa’s legacy – he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. #8 Can you substanciate your assertion that cabinet appointments made by RB are tribal? As far as I can see there is very good representation of the different provinces of Zambia in the current cabinet if one is pragmatic enough to realise that not all 73 Zambian ethnic groups can be represented at each and every time. This is in contrast to the top echelons of the two opposition parties which are over represented by either Northern or Southern province.

  13. ”The people of Southern province deserve development like any other part of Zambia despite their political or any other affliation”, said the president. Early this year George Kunda said people should vote for MMD candidate because they have access to the country’s resources. Is there any need for the president to issue such a statement if he trully meant what he said? We all know that he hates provinces where MMD/ UNIP are not popular. He is just saying this as a campaign strategy.

  14. #16 WITHOUT MOB-PSYCHOLOGY VOTE IN THE PROVINCE, RB WOULD WIN A CLEAN ELECTION IN THE PROVINCE.RB’S COMING TO SOUTHERN PROVINCE SENT HH PANICKING. THE TIME RB WAS LANDING IN CHOMA, HH WAS ON THE LOCAL RADIO STATION FOR TWO AND HALF HOURS TRYING TO SABOTAGE RB’S VISIT IN THE PROVINCE. HH IS A GREAT LEADER WHO EVEN MMD HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED BUT IT IS THE GROUP HE IS ALIGNING WITH THAT WILL DELAY AND DELAY HIS REIGN TO SERVE AT NATIONAL LEVEL.

  15. #2. Not only has he just discovered that Southern Province is part of Zambia- But, he has also misled himself by comparing it to other provinces. Which provinces are developed-especially under him? Is Western province developed? Or are Northern, Luapula, North Western provinces developped? I actually, find his speeches childish and with no material content. Take for instance, when the president of Brazil passed through Zambia to S Africa (to do real business) I coudn’t have been more embarrased to hear him start talking about a ‘Degree’. He wondered how a man with no degree is leading his country successfully. To me that was crap.

  16. Southern Province like Western Province have for some time felt maginalised, used by other pipo to ascend to power and discarding them. It will be difficult for RB to win the South Vote. Yes development is welcome there and well done RB on this road, however to swing the south vote is another issue. Check 2008 results from Southern province.Well done again for the road hope no potholes in less than 1 year on it. lets monitor what Mulongoti did on the quality of the road.

  17. I hope NYAMASOYA will live to his words.Let him spell out the things they are going to do their. These are political statements which are pronounced during election times. He could be Hallucinating.

  18. an I quote “He said the people of Southern Province will not be made to wait for UPND and Mr. Hichilema to ascend to power to receive development because the opposition party has no chance to rule the country. ” is RB the determinant of who should rule? nonsense

  19. Nice to learn that at long last RB has realised that SP needs development. But RB, what about Nakonde, Isoka, Mbala, Mpulungu, Luwingu,Mporokoso,Kaputa?
Why is the road between Nakonde and Mbala not tarred?
Can it make sense to tar the road from Isoka through Mbesuma to Kasama so that there is a straight road to Mansa, Mwanawasa bridge and the Copperbelt instead of going through Kapiri?
You will not get the votes from Southern. That is PACT territory.
Be careful Nakonde, Isoka,Muyombe,Mbala, Senga Hill and Mpulungu might go to the Pact thanks to RB following of Lameck to the grave.

  20. We honor your hard working His Excellency RB. We have been moving in pot-holes for the past uncountable years and we are now seeing your action in reality. Keep it up H.E

  21. You f.o.ol RB you mean you did n’t know until now, that the whole world needs development. Then what have you been doing all this time at State House, developing yourself and yours?

  22. #10 Remove the hate you have on your fellow human being HH, we will never believe your allegations on him because they have no substance. If HH never paid his workers, why can’t they report him to police or ACC or beteer still take him to court. People of southern province are enlightened, they know where they pay tax, and that is to GRZ of Rupiah Banda even if they vote for the opposition. They do not pay tax to HH, Sejani Matongo etc, so if you are blind of where your tax goes then remain in ignorance alone as you chose to be dull. SP is the only province which feels safe to be in the opposition forever when it fits them, They have been in the opposition for the past 10 solid years and I can see it continue if this RB government continues in power.

  23. SP has been in the opposition for 10 years but has received the largest amount of development, because they know they are part of zambia hence they deserve that development. Every province is important in our nation zambia and the better for RB to realise this fact. Even if they belong to the opposition they deserve good roads, schools, hospitals ect. SP does not need RB but Sata our man. Viva Pabwato.

  24. When you talk of tribalism, RB is the worste and not Sata or HH. RB has demonstrated his tribalism through the appointment of 9 cabinet ministers from Eastern province and these people are his right hand men eg Mangani. If he loves and needs all the nine provinces he was going to appoint a cabinet minister from each province to show unity, love and inclusiveness. He told people in Eastern provice not to vote for anyone who does not come from there (Shame)! on a national leader. HH is just a leader of the opposition and we have not seen the practise of tribalism on him on a national level the way RB did. RB is just guilty of his words and actions period.

  25. I have never commented on any of these blogs, but i would like to know if anyone of you has travelled to through southern province recently.

  26. ” Southern Province Deserves Development-RB ”

The MMD have had 19 years to develop Southern Province, and yet they chose to sit on their hands and ‘let the market do it’.

Neoliberalism is a failed ideology, producing failed and failing policies (user fees which reduce access to education and healthcare; single digit inflation instead of indigenous economic growth; foreign investment creating a foreign economy in Zambia instead of a Zambian economy).

We need a party that starts taxing and collecting from the mines. After 19 years of the MMD, they are still the only economic game in town, because there has been no economic diversification. Heavy taxation of the mines is the only way to do it.

Everything else is just hollow words.

  27. #31 How many people from other provinces are in the high positions of either PF or UPND? Most of the cabinet ministers in the RB regime were there during Mwanawasa’s tenure. If you can show that the leadership of the two opposition parties is representative of Zambia, then you might have a point, otherwise you will have to vilify RB on another issue other than that of being a tribalist. According to some, RB is responsible for shielding Chiluba against the corruption charges, if he was such a tribalist would he be now protecting a man who in his first-term in office systematically sidelined Easterners?

  28. Muletasha ba fikamba, why are you like this? hating a person right from the start just because because the one you wanted to be president lost ninshi imwe lwanya ala. We will see 2011 is coming and alabee will still win and continue to be president.

  29. AMA MPS BA KU SOUTHERN PROVINCE BALI CA FYE, I WONDER HOW THESE GUYS ARE PLAYING IT ABENA VJ MUNKOMBWE AND HACHIPUKA DISPITE THE PROVINCE BEING SO CONTRAVESSIAL AND 98% UPND THEY STILL MANAGE TO GET CAPITAL PROJECTS FROM MMD ROADS IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE ARE SO GOOD AND TOWNS LIKE CHOMA AND MAZABUKA ARE DEVELOPING EACH DAY, VJ MAY BE AT WORK RB VISITS SOUTHERN PROVINCE ALMOST EACH MONTH TODAY HE WILL BE IN CHOMA TOMOROW LIVINGSTONE MAZABUKA I WONDER WHEN LAST RB WAS IN MPIKA, MBALA OR KABOMPO, N WAY THUBS UP TO MMD AND LATE LEVY WHO STARTED THIS POLITICAL ROAD

  30. RB should stop deceiving himself tat the tribal tag he always attaches to SP can help him.its not possible.SP is not a zone for finished outdated leaders. just imagine,64 years after independence-Easteners and Northerners have no fresh intellectuals to stand as president except the finished old madalas.

SP shall never support old trashes from archieves….!

  31. It is a pity that this old man is celebreting projects which were innitited by the late president. The Choma namwala road has just dragged otherwise they were started by levy.people of southern province are not fools and cannot be bought by one road.We know that the old man is panicking now that southern province is solidly behind the pact.2011 is near and we know how much MMD are behaving like headless chickens.

    2011, ba Nyamasoya kuya bebele.

  32. Yea i love SP. It should be cut off from the rest of Zambia and be a state like what Katima did in Namibia under the Boers rule. Now that BA flys direct to stone no need to go to LSK

  33. Personally i think the president shud not always take things like he is campaigning but just do the work zambians gave him to do,i believe RB can work wonders if only he set his mind to it and dropped some good for nothing ministers who cant properly advise him but just pliz him in order to make their ends meet, coz his speeches sometimes sound as if he has no advisers
