Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha says those opposing the decision by High Court Judge Evans Hamaundu to dismiss the London Court judgment case involving second republican president Frederick Chiluba (FTJ) to be registered in Zambia are off-side.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha challenged those who are not happy by the court verdict on Dr. Chiluba to seek legal re-dress than fight in the media.

Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha implored the Zambians to respect the decision of the courts.

The government Chief spokesperson wondered why people do not discredit the Zambian courts acquitted opposition Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata on motor theft charge, Post Newspaper Editor Chansa Kabwela on has been acquitted of the charges of circulating obscene materials but the people are too naïve on Dr. Chiluba’s case.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister , urged the Zambian people to study the Chiluba judgment instead of criticizing from a layman point of view.

He said it is unfair to always lambaste that the judicial system is Zambia is ‘not working’ when instead it is working very hard to handle serious cases brought before the courts.

Judge Hamaundu last week refused to register the London High Court judgment in Zambia. He instead dismissed the applications for the registration of the London High Court which found Dr. Chiluba and his co-accused liable for the theft of US$46 million.

Meanwhile, Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha has lashed out at the PF leader Michael Sata’s claims that it has taken over 20 years to construct the Choma-Namwala road.

He challenged Mr. Sata that he is the one who failed to deliver because his was directly in charge as Local government and Housing Minister and Minister Without Portfolio.

He said President Rupiah Banda is on track to taking development not only in Southern Province but the country as a whole.

He said President Banda has managed to open up a lot of developmental projects among them health centers, schools and road infrastructures among others.

On the PF/UPND Pact, Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha said UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is blindly following Mr. Sata in the Pact.

The Chief Government Spokesperson described the PF/UPND as a dead alliance which is bound to crack anytime because the two opposition leaders were selfish and cannot be entrusted with power.

“The Pact is non-existence because Mr. Sata and Hichilema are very selfish to govern the nation,” he said

  1. this same vedict ba ngo are trying to force gove to appeal was thrown out by the london court of appeal. one of the accused mr meer appealed against the london high court ruling and the supreme court ruled in his favor. its a useless case which has been buried. keep debating however and see were you go with your childish arguements ba engwase mwale. I wonder if your husband ever talks in your home

Is this man really serious? How does he expect people to fight this matter in court when the avenues provided to them by their Constitution are being shut left , right, and center by these same sycophants? The DPP and other constitutional officers are the people’s representatives in these matters, but they are being preempted every time courts have made rulings.

By the way, what is the Supreme Court for if the High Court is always good enough?! In matters such this one, it is good for our judiciary and country if momentous precedents, such as the one Judge Hamaundu has set, to be set in the Supreme Court—so Appeal!

  3. It will be a big embarrassment to the Judiciary and the Zambian government if a similar case comes up in future and this precedent by Judge Hamaundu gets overturned by the Supreme Court. Only the Supreme Court’s judgments and precedents are never overruled or overturned. That is why in advanced democracies, cases with such overreaching implications, almost always, end up in the Supreme Court. They are the ones who have a final say, and their precedents are as good as the Laws passed by the Legislature.

ONLY GOD KNOWS WHY SHIKAPWASHA & RB ARE BENT ON CURTAILING THE PROCESSES SET OUT IN OUR CONSTITUTION WHICH, IF RESPECTED, WOULD ENHANCE OUR YOUNG DEMOCRACY.

Sometimes you get a funny feeling that these people are on Chiluba’s payroll. Why else are they acting so irresponsibly?!

  4. Mr Sata and Madam kabwela went through the whole process and were duly acquited. May the questioning we should be asking our selves is whether the country lost $46 million or it was just an imagined figure? Please ba GRZ spokesman, all we want to know is the truth.

  5. I support you on that the great false prophet Shikapwasha…thats what we Zambians are saying, let us go to the supreme court. Zambians are not fighting the case in papers..what they want is what you have touched on- appealing to the supreme court sir.

But why are you saying no to the appeal Mr false prophet? Really you are dull in the head Mr Shikapwasha. Change for good man.

The A.G wants approval to continue the case in two options.
Return to the UK to register and enforce the Smith Judgment or Start afresh in Zambia with a civil trial.
Both ways have high tendencies of success to the return of stolen funds by Chiluba.

THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA NEED TO FIGHT FOR ONE OF THESE WAYS ACTIONS.
