UPND,PF youths differ on pact presidency

Share

Perhaps Paul the Octopus can help?

United Party for National Development (UPND) youths have observed that the vacancy in the UPND/PF pact presidency is contributing to fueling squabbles in the partnership involving the two biggest opposition political parties in the country.

Speaking when he featured on the Public’s Last Say on QFM, UPND Lusaka province youth coordinator Brian Hapunda said during the period the pact has been in existence, the two political parties have worked together and have known each other’s strengths and weaknesses and that the next stage should now be the selection of the pact president.

He says there is need to pick the presidential candidate to offer guidance to the UPND/PF pact.

Mr Hapunda stated that it is not possible to have two heads of the house, hence it is high time that the PF/UPND pact selected the presidential candidate systematically.

He added that the UPND/PF pact should select a presidential candidate to avoid being caught unaware in the event the elections date for 2011 is announced abruptly.

And speaking on the same programme, Patriotic Front national youth secretary Eric Chanda had a different opinion on the need to pick a presidential candidate for the pact.

He said the issue of selecting the pact presidential candidate is not the biggest issue but selling the UPND/PF pact to the Zambian people.

Mr Chanda said the two political parties are not in the pact to sale an individual but what they two political parties together will do for the Zambian people.

He said selling the UPND/PF pact to the Zambian people first will make it easy for whoever will be picked as the presidential candidate to win the 2011 elections.

  1. Diametrically opposed with no national game plan.Such is a risky circus that could reverse national gains for their political crisis.

  2. The pact can work if only an ADHOC Committee can be selected to harmonise the two parties. The other thing is that the pact should not listen to detractors like # 1 The so called SENIOR CITIZEN. I can tell you Senior Citizen is a BAFOON. He is Not fit to be called a human being

  3. Has the Pact at district level selected electoral college for the national convention to elect the Pact leader? This in my view should be done now as a matter of urgency. Can the secretaries of the Pact draw up a programme of action now and submit the same programme to the Post and Lusaka Times so the general public can be aware of this important programme.

  4. Well said Chanda sell the pact to the people of Zambia first before you pick a pact president.
Presidential candidate for the pact should be a strategy to keep MMD gazing until the right time comes.
We know it will be either HH or MCS

  5. Mwaiona reasoning ya PF? Fikaisova mentality. If at this stage the parties have not harmonised yet, to the extent that they can actually pick a leader then when exactly does he think that will happen? Why were they making so much noise over nothing just a couple of months ago at the ‘launch’? People need to get to know the leader and the policies of the party. You cant take the voters for granted ati they will be happy with anybody the pact chooses and what happens if RB calls for an early election? Can this be the party that will bring miracles to Zambia in 90 days? My a.r.s.e, they cant even organise a piss up in a brewery.

  6. #3.. you have no moral right to call #1 a bafoon just bcoz he has a different opinion from yours. just bcoz you are politcally opinionated does not mean you should attack all percieved opponents. as far as i know this pact has a ‘management committe’ or what ever that is spposed to resolve issues like these. how many commttees are going to be formed to resolve one issue. lets be realistic….

  7. #5 How long has the pact been in existence? What exactly will you be selling to the electorate given the fact that they have not managed up till now to come up with even a draft manifesto? In fact the pact does not really need selling to the electorate. It seems to me that a lot of people were behind it when it was first incepted over a year ago. What is happening now is actually squandering the good will that the pact had. They should have started travelling together around the country to show people that they are united instead of complaining when RB visits the provinces. Where is the pact shadow cabinet so that they speak with one voice?

  8. PF must suppy the presidential candidate as PF commands more support that UPND. Its common sence and democracy. Just like it happens it happened in England David Cameron is prime minister and Nick Clegg is deputy prime minister because David’s party has got more votes than Nick’s party. Come on UPND respect your human intelligency, HH must come out in the open and tell his peoplle that on their own it will be like winning a lotto. PF on its own the chances are above 98%.

  9. Yaba! This pact seems to be suffering from a very long terminal illness. Why doesnt somebody just switch off the life support machine? Talema nayo nkhani iyi mwe!

  10. #13… shallow PF analysis. Its such a shame that a lot of people have been hoodwinked by this pact nonsense. take time to look….. within folks

  11. PLEASE GUYS WE ARE ALL ZAMBIANS AVOID INSULTING YOUR INNOCENT MOTHERS WHAT DO THEY HAVE DO TO DO WITH THESE FAILED BUFFONS IN THE PACT. YOU INSULT PIPO WHO ARE DEAD SURE SHAME.

  12. i blame the UPND for this pact joke. it is clear that PF will only accept Sata for presido. But UPND have realised that thay have been taken for a ride and want to stick to the pact. for obvious reasons. out of the pact, UPND is dead beef. i pity HH and his club of opportunist who thot it would be that easy to get into state house by default. they are he only ones pleading to save the pact. the writting is clear on the wall….. SATAN for presido with or without pact… HH is not as sharp after all………

  13. #13: Please learn to use common sense. In the UK we just had elections and the result of the elections neccessiated the formation of a coalition with the biggest winner, conservatives, leading the coalition. In Zambia we last had parliamenraly elections in 2006. At the moment there is no conclusive way of knowing which party commands the majority. A lot has changed since 2006 and UPND has gained a lot of ground. So stop living in the past otherwise this pact will go nowhere. The views expressed by the two youth leaders are individual opinions not party opinions. From what we know the UPND has stated that they what to harmonise systems, strategies and plans before choosing a pact president.

  14. In a related item reported by the Zambia Daily Mail under a title , UPND’s Mazabuka MP Hon G. Nkombo said ““The statement attributed to the PF vice-president in my view is a personal opinion. But it is also an act of indiscipline on the part of Dr Scott to start talking about the popularity of Mr Michael Sata instead of working on a system which will guide the pact. We did not consummate the pact to compete against one another but to complement each other. So Dr Scott should not mind about who is more suitable to be a presidential candidate but think about what kind of political system to be put in place,”” and this is exactly what Mr PF/Sata MC’s cadres must understand.

I hope PF’s Guy Scott will be disciplined soon before any UPND member is taken to task…

  15. What SATAN and his club have managed to do is divert UPND’s focus national issues. instead of selling themselves they are busy fighting to stick to PF for survival. this is all bcoz HH could not listen to free timely advice. he has now fund himself in a mess and realises that only way he wiil salvage his reputation, if any, is by mamking the pact work. HH is cheap………….

  16. On “Mr Hapunda stated that it is not possible to have two heads of the house, hence it is high time that the PF/UPND pact selected the presidential candidate systematically… the UPND/PF pact should select a presidential candidate to avoid being caught unaware in the event the elections date for 2011 is announced abruptly,” it is clear that Hampunda’s sentiments and are different from what UPND MP Garry Nkombo has said in the Zambia Daily Mail which I believe is that UPND’s position since both 2011 UPND presidential candidate and UPND spokesperson Hon C. Kakoma have state a similar message, about coming up with the PF-UPND PACT manifesto which will be used, before.

    Be blest.

  17. PRESIDENT CHILUBA WAS HAND PICKED FROM THE STREETS,MWANAWASA WAS AWEKENED FROM A DEEP SLEEP,RUPIAH WAS GOT FROM THE FARM,ALL THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR PRESIDNCE HAVE NEVER RULLED THE COUNTRY.THEREFORE THE PACT SHOULD PICK NGANDU MAGANDE OR ANYBODY NUETRAL EITHER FROM THE STREETS,FARMS.CHURCH,EDUCATION,ALL PROBLEMS WILL GO AND A CHANGE WILL CETAINLY COME TO THIS COUNTRY

  18. What i know is these youths must not be taken seriously. They are a voice to their stomarchs and not to the many suffering zambians out their. Though, there is some salt in their rhetoric, i guess, its better to head senior leaders of a party or PACT like KOKOMA,LUBINDA and the likes of HH & SATA as heads of this united front. The writting is over the wall-HH or SATA can be succesiful candidates to lead the PACT and there will be no disintergration unless MMD uses its underhand skills to lure these same hungry, jobless youths to cause confusion. However, as zambians we will feed their hungry berries with venom if they turn away from their right minds.

  19. On “He [Patriotic Front national youth secretary Eric Chanda] said the issue of selecting the pact presidential candidate is not the biggest issue but selling the UPND/PF pact to the Zambian people… said the two political parties are not in the pact to sale an individual but what they two political parties together will do for the Zambian peoplet,” I agree with this statement coming from PF because that is the statement that UPND MP Hon G. Nkombo has mentioned also to the nation through Zambia Daily Mail under a story entitled “UPND MP counsels Guy Scott“.

In all, it appears that the mighty UPND’s man was not ready for the programme discourse and may have been caught unaware.

Happy Sabbath Day to you all.

  20. However much propaganda and tricks are used to try and “destroy” the PACT, the people of Zambia have the final say.

  21. Senior Citizen, do not be descouraged, by those who call you strange names. Those who are wise in their own eyes will always insult the wise.

  22. i one of the people of zambia say pakatombwa insoka ne fiwa pact tafyakabombe.we don’t want cosmetic changes.how do you describe voting for sata as change.the bust-ard has got a history of chaotic leadership and some psychophants have forgotten

  23. We should not expect any good leadeship from these old people like Rupiah Banda, Micheal Sata, Daniel Munkombwe etc. Quality leadership can come from young, educated, intelligent and focust people such as HH, Charles Milupi, Chipimo Jr, Brian Chituwo etc. I think people like MC Sata cannot do anything in their lives apart from politicking for his loving. They can deceive us in whatever language they feel to blind us for their good.

  24. vioneni visilu, ama youth supporters are one of the most backward nomecletures pa chalo. to much matuvi in head. lack of supply kumutwe. violent little brats. awe when i return to zambia during ama elections i have kept chifukushi for one of the youths. i will slap the son of a man. deuces, i have gone for my dance lessons.. some of us who have bugga mannerisms. nizee

  25. The truth is Zambia needs change and they NEED to seize this opportunity to make a change, otherwise you will end up with President Kunda (No offense to him but i also come from Mpatamatu – Luanshya!). Get RID of MMD period! PACT should negotiate the deals and move forward. I think they are in the process and as a result they will fall out now and again. Maybe Sata for one term and HH can carry the on after that. Makes sense.

  26. mune numbala 34 kulya fye mune! we are zambians we are told not to refuse food. na condom its like eating ama sweet na wrapper..? no point! tefyo? deuces mwana

  27. #24.YOU ARE RIGHT. ZAMBIAN PRESIDENTS ARE MOSTLY HAND-PICKED AND THAT HAS CONTRIBUTED SO MUCH TO THE CHEAPENING OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SEAT IN ZAMBIA. THE CHAPS DON’T SWEAT/WORK FOR IT. THATS WHY THIS TIME ROUND THE PACT MUST PICK SOMEONE WHO HAS REALLY SWEATED FOR IT TO APPRECIATE THE PRESIDENCE AND WORK FOR HIS MASTERS.

  28. PF AND UPND YOUTH DIFFERING THIS TIME MAKES SOME BIT OF SENSE. AT LEAST THEY ARE DISCUSSING ISSUES. HOWEVER, BE INFORMED THAT WHETHER FEW INDIVIDUALS LIKE IT OR NOT, THE PACT WILL WORK.

  29. mune #35 ndalya live: Nalaya mukumona ka gelo aka ku Swaziland. Nomba ndyaflyafye na Condom but Kasuma sana! Do you thing i should apply you theorem?? Nintendwa Condom naba abasungu….. Nshalyapo live for 5 years, especially aba inkanda yesu!! What do you think?

  32. F.E.I.R.A,

The truth of the matter is that MMD die-hards led by Senior Citizen in the cyber are smart, savvy and educated lot compared to their opponents in the PF. I’m personally not amused with SC’s deafening silence to all the insults his parents takes from overwhelmed PF cadres here. Evidently there is none that seems capable of standing toe-to-toe against his intelligent and unwavering blogging. His match would be UPND cadres but unfortunately they are not experienced political machines to par him though equally educated unlike PF. MMD knows it the intellectual challenges of PF camp hence entrapping them in reactionary behavior of insults that turns off sober Zambians whose enduring picture of PF is that of thugs vainly fighting the intelligentsia. Example is # 3 and 14.

  33. #39 ndalya live: Naya nomba ku night club to chow some more. thanks mune. Nde yensha ka BMW 320 but nalabwela na taxi. Figelo ifingi! Nalalya live again!! its like I am free at las!!

I think iwe #39 ndalya live walikwata amano ayengi!! Better than the zedians!! Balipwalala! I think kulya live before I die!!

  34. #42 Kanswe: drink some more milk and you will feel better! Zambian politics is a lost cause! Kabiye fye and ulye gelo obe live! Dont waste any time with these zambians. If you are there, then we will push and fund you but at this time #39 ndalya live: is right!! Find some girl and ulye fye live!! Zambians accept RB and the chief thief FTJ (who is smiling and buying all the politicians in Luapula) hence no chance of a change! RB is sending that Thandiwe on the campaign trail! Kanshi iwe, kalye live and thats it!!

I think ka Thandiwe kasuma sana!!

  35. Senior Citizen goes insane whenever anybody mentions Pact selecting Presidential candidate. He will come out strongly with his Horse rider bull-shit. Brother man take heart and start planning your future

  36. #16 u are as durty as the insults. Yo mind is full of shiiiiiiiiiit!!! U are insulting as tho u were born from a dog. meanwhile u had a mother perhaps who cud have aborted you if she so wised. MULE TASHA. Am sure a carda for MMD. Boyi kula.
