MMD MP’s expulsion costly- FODEP

Share

The foundation for demcoratic process has described the decision by the ruling movement for multi party democracy MMD National Exective Committee (NEC) to expel two of its senior officials, as costly.

FODEP information and publicity officer, Mc donal Chipenzi told QFM in an interview that it is shameful that the same party that was recently condemning luena member of parliament, Charles Milupi for resigning and recontesting his seat, are the ones who have decided to fire 2 of its MP’s.

Mr Chipenzi pointed out that though NEC has the duty to take disciplinary action on all party erring members, expulsion is the worst for of its kind because the implications are huge.

He said that the deliberate decision to expel the two MP’s and the cost that the nation will be made to bear is too much and could have easily been avoided.

The Publicity officer explained that it is a well known fact that it is expensive to conduct a by election in this country and the MM’s NEC could have opted for something better.

Mr Chipenzi has, therefore, called on all political parties to ensure that they consider better and more effective means of dealing with grievances within the party other than expulsions.

Kafulafuta MP George Mpombo and his Chilanga counterpart, Ngandu Magande were expelled from the ruling party after a NEC meeting held at state house on Saturday .

  1. FODE YOU EXPECT THESE 2 BUFFONS TO REMAIN MEMBERS WHEN THEY CLEARLY SHOWED NO RESPECT FOR MMD. ITS GOOD RIDDANCE AND LONG OVERDUE. MMD IS BETTER OFF LOSING THE SEATS THAN KEEPING THESEROTTEN EGGS. THEY CLAIM TO BE POPULAR SO LET THEM CONTEST THE SEATS ON PF OR UPND. FOR MPOMBO THE ONLY INCOME HE REMAINED WITH HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY PARLIAMENTARY AND NCC ALLOWANCES. GUESS HIS GONNA ISSUE MORE RUBBER CHEQUES

  2. Pipo, let us not just supoort anything because you are MMD,why did’nt you say the same when PF did the same to the 22 MPs,do’nt miscourt me am neither PF nor UPND.Its true the observation by FODEP should be supported,by-elections caused by Death is something else.
If this is allowed then PF also should do something to 22 Rebels.

  3. Ba FODEP you amaze me. This was long coming. MMD was more than patient and tried counselling, it did not work. The point that I want to make is that FODEP saw this coming and didn’t do anything about it. You should have counselled this bunch of MPs rather than wait for the invetiable to happen and cry foul. And while you are at it, make sure that you counsel Post too, they were the spark and the fuel that ignited the fire. Mpombo and Magande would not have been so pompous if it wasn’t for Post’s instiable appetite for money and power to control others.

  4. I didn’t know Zambia had money to be holding elections any time some pipo are not being loyal to their presidents. Is expulsion the last resort? isn’t there any other way of disciplining these pipo? i think these pipo (NEC) don’t know how costly it is and i think they are not even interested in the development of the nation and its pipo. I AM FED UP with pipo who don’t seem to know what they are doing.

  5. RB and MMD are cowards for expelling the two MPs as they fear the challenge for Presidential job which RB is holding illigally. MMD will lose the next general election even VJ the chief rigger rigs they will not win. When you live in a democratic country you have to accept criticism from people. RB shows his UNIP straits which he imported into MMD. Come 2011 he will out peiord.

  6. When PF expelled Its MPs for the same reason the MMD did for Magande and Mpombo, the Speaker was and has been pussy-footing to make Sata look ineffectual in the eyes of members. These are double standards Mr Mwanafimofimo. 2011 ni mailo ka!

  7. The Challege we have is lack of democracy within our major political parties and compounded by our weak constitution which tend to promote indispline in the parties! For example PF took a stand on NCC but because of money some MPs become rebels, HH allowed his MPs on NCC for fear of being ”overthrown” not withstanding the fact the majority of Zambians considered the NCC to be just another conduit for our ”educated elite” to make money!

  8. #13, the true picture is that Sata personally (PF=Sata), not the party, decided not to participate in NCC for his own selfish ends. As per Sata doctrine there were no principles invoved at all. In fact it was clear that he was jealous of the money that his MPs might earn at NCC. Anyway expect Sata to make a u-turn on these rebel MPs as we approach 2011. Such is he that there is no shame left in him.

  9. #11.Do you only read LT? I would advise to read other papers, too. Mpombo said he is more ready about his expulsion from MMD.

  10. #14. You are a BIG lier. What #11 is talking about is true. The fact you hate Sata does not mean that the stand he took against participating in NCC was bad. In fact he has been vindicated on that one. NCC was just a money-maker for the elite, and they did make money. In fact HH even regrets having been short sighted as an educated fella. HH is not very smart when it comes to decision-making as a politician. Don’t get me wrong- am not saying HH’s not a good businessman, (neither did I say he’s a good businessman). Fact is- he is not a brilliant politician. He doesn’t think beyond his nose when it comes to politics. He has made so many mistakes in his political life.
