Respect the Presidency, Maureen Mwanawasa

Share

FORMER First Lady and widow to Zambia’s third President, Dr. Levy Mwanawasa, Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa has called for an end to the culture of insults and disrespect towards the Presidency and those in leadership.

Maureen said it was unfortunate that the culture of disrespecting the presidency has continued over the years.

She recalled that during her husband’s reign, people called him all sorts of names like Cabbage among others but appreciated the efforts he made to restore the economy on the right path after he died.

Maureen urged people who were not happy with the status of the economy to find respectful ways of engaging those in authority instead of insulting them.

  1. The Presidency is very much respected, except on very isolated instances. But I have noticed that each time the President is criticized even constructively it is deliberately twisted to label such as insults. He has to be criticized, even harshly, as long as it is truthful and within the law, there is no issue.

    • An end to the culture of insults and disrespect towards the Presidency and those in leadership?
Forget it. Its the New Culture. It has come to stay. This is the age of Social media, uncensorable social media. Its the age of Democracy. You have to reverse all these things for what you’re asking for to happen. Presidents should know that they arent here to be respected but to work for the people. They shouldnt waste time worrying about who disrespects them. They should focus on working mwibala, not checking loopholes for theft.
Presidents are servants. They are not Kings who treated all their subjects as servants.

    • Maureen Mwanawasa is not being sincere. She didn’t respect the Presidency when her husband was President. She wanted to behave like President and have a say in every Presidential Appointment and decision as though she was the one that Zambians voted into office – this is one of the reasons her marriage with LPM was on rocks in his last days, we know it. Now She’s bootlicking for a job.

  2. It was Mr Sata and his friends who were calling Levy Mwanawasa as cabbage, His friends who are in government now, tell them

  3. The reason we do not respect the Presidency is because the standard at state house have really gone down. Can you imagine that a mere cadre in Kaizer Zulu was politcal advisor at state house?

  4. @Chi, at you are tired of this presidency?
Wait & see. This presidency is going up to 2027. You are yet to know tired. This coming election has already been rigged from voter registration up to counting. After counting you have seen the police vehicles waiting for you. You have never seen tired. Kk clung in there for 27 years. So just do something productive with your life. HH with his tribalism is not coming. I see hh growing grey hair in that chunsu of his & he will still be an agree opposition.

  6. That lady second from Maureen who resembles mwanawasa is surely in deep thought, only God knows, dear lady that’s how far Zambia has moved, guess the bar was set so high, we need athletic political pole vaulters to leap above it.

    • Why are you guys including the reporters of this story disrespecting this former first lady? Why are you calling her Maureen? As if she is your girlfriend? She is Mrs Mwanawasa. Muzikalana ulemu !

  7. Respect begets Respect so the saying goes ..Maureen you are a lawyer you will understand this caveat
For laymen it means Respect gets respect ( if Lungu respected the institutions then people will respect him period.)

    • But you always disrespect diasporans. Don’t you know some of them are your father’s friends? If a preacher wants to be heard he must set an example

  8. This kind of reporting is unhelpful. Where was Mrs Mwanawasa saying this? Was it whn the picture illustrating the story was taken? Whom was she addressing?

  9. How can you respect a hypocrite thief like Edgar China Lungu. On Sundays he goes to church and puts his hands in the air for The Lord – but on Monday has forgotten all the ten commandments again and continues looting and stealing. But your time will come Edgar China Lungu: one day you will arrive at the Pearly Gates, and Jesus will direct you to that hole in the ground called HELL.

  11. We respect the office but not the misrule of the person. The way people say ‘respect the Presidency’ is as if he said ‘Nyela mu kabudula’ we should say ‘Kangati bwana.’ No.

  12. Which comes first respect voters or presidency respect.dont use voters and dump them when you amass wealthy.God is great.

  13. It is misleading that the Presidency only must be respected, the correct version is every body must be respected regardless of status in society. Even opposition party presidents must be greatly respected. But in this country when a President is criticized even fairly so, they twist the narrative to suit them and say the President is being insulted. I mean what is wrong with saying the current President lacks capacity and has totally failed with all economic indicators being on a down ward spiral ever since he assumed office. These are not insults, this is reality please.

  15. He has to earn some respect through his actions .Im afraid respect cannot be earned through protecting crimimals and making wrong appointments like the one he made a few days ago . We are where we are now because of him making errors judgements and ill informed decisons .

  16. Just remove the laws that make people think anything said that doesn’t align is disrespect. Ffs we employ these guys and now you want them to do what they WANT? Get real.

  17. Maureen Mwanawasa has no self-respect to allow herself to speak with her stomach! Is she looking for a job so shamelessly?
In Bemba we say “Ubufumu buchindika umwine!”
In a true Democracy, those who aspire to be president must be ready to face severe insults whether they like it or not, whether they do good or evil. A President is not a King! There is a difference. Unfortunately, you have just opened a can of worms for more insots!
