Dr Guy Scott – Future PF President & Zambian President in waiting – Is it possible?

Share

Patrotic Front Vice president Guy Scott

By Daimone Siulapwa

WHAT will never be denied as fact when this country’s history is written is how one Michael Chilufya Sata built the Patriotic Front from scratch to make it the second biggest political party in the country in less than a decade.

And it is not like the party was born with any teeth at all. Other than Michael Sata himself, there was no any other easily identifiable name. And when you have Edwin Lifwekelo as the secretary-general, who in essence is the chief executive officer of the party, then you know that you have a lot of work to do. Mr Sata certainly had a lot of work to do.[pullquote]In that regard, Sata deserves respect for building the PF to the level it is today. The success of Sata’s work in so far as building the PF goes is in having the party continuing to be strong long after he has left the PF

[/pullquote]
At the time he was forming the PF, opposition parties on the ground included the United Party for National Development (UPND) led by Anderson Mazoka, the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) under the guidance of Lieutenant-General Christon Tembo and Heritage Party (HP), under the command of Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda.

And that is not all.

There was also the Ben Mwila’s Zambia Republican Party (ZRP), Nevers Mumba’s National Citizens Coalition (NCC), Akashambatwa Mbikusita’s Agenda for Zambia (AZ), United Front For Development and Democracy (UFDD) lead by Humphrey Siulapwa and the former ruling party, the United National Independence Party (UNIP), which has always enjoyed the support of former President Dr Kenneth Kaunda.

During the 2001 general elections, Michael Sata got less than two percent of the national vote while managing to win only one Parliamentary seat. But despite that dismal performance, he never relented, perhaps fueled by his hatred of Levy Mwanawasa. He started going round the country campaigning much to the displeasure of Mwanawasa and the ruling Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), who kept on saying elections were over and there was no need to continue with the campaigns.

But he did not listen to them.

He rode on a platform of putting more money in people’s pockets and reducing taxes. He also made Chinese investment a campaign issue. Further, he made the anti-corruption crusade waged by Mwanawasa an issue, declaring that he will pardon former President Chiluba if elected.

The message found resonance on the Copperbelt and in Lusaka, Luapula and Northern provinces. By the time the 2006 general elections were coming, Michael Sata and PF were by far the biggest threat to Mwanawasa and the MMD’s hold on power.

This was so despite the alliance of the UNIP, UPND and FDD, who formed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). There are some people who think that if it was not for a few irregularities, Sata would have won those elections. Others actually believe he was robbed. Of course the 2008 presidential election story is well-known. To date, Sata remains the second favourite to become President after the incumbent Rupiah Banda.

In that regard, Sata deserves respect for building the PF to the level it is today.

But as we all know, destiny is never in our hands its in God’s hands only. I ask myself, if anything should happen to Mr. Sata that should make him incapable of leading the PF. What next? What would remain of the PF? Will it be able move-on with life smoothly or that will be the beginning of its end?

Since the formation of the party, it has had five secretary general’s. The first was Edwin Lifwekelo, then followed by Guy Scott, then Charles Mumbwa and then Edward Mumbi. The current one is a lawyer and former Lusaka City town clerk Winter Kabimba.

None of the five have ever been elected, all have been appointed and disappointed at Sata’s pleasure and displeasure.

Added to that, for a long-time, Sata did not have a deputy. It was only after a long-time that he elevated Guy Scott to the position of deputy-president after serving as secretary-general. In fact, Guy Scott is Sata’s longest-serving secretary general. It remains to be seen how long Winter Kabimba lasts in that position.

What is the point of all this discourse? Well, if there is something that all this reveals, is the fact in terms of building the PF beyond Sata, the King Cobra has failed.

A decade after its formation, the party has never gone to the convention to amend its constitution or to elect leaders. All national and provincial leaders are appointed by Sata, and Sata alone.

Well, it does not take a genius to know that this is not healthy for the party in particular and democracy in general. The PF should begin to build internal democracy within the party. Yes, Sata may be the founder of the party, but it is by no means a personal entity. Sata is not PF or is PF Sata. These two should remain separate so much so that should Sata decide to stop active politics today, the party should still be able to move-on smoothly.

In fact, the success of Sata’s work in so far as building the PF goes is in having the party continuing to be strong long after he has left the PF. That, is the measure by which Mr Sata will be judged. And not say if Sata resigned or left for any reason, then Guy Scot will take-over. Guy Scot is Sata’s appointee, he has never been elected, and as such, the members have the right to reject his leadership. And just one more thing, the PF has no membership cards, so it is difficult to tell who is a member and not.

In other words, the PF should start preparing for life after Sata. And Sata should start preparing for that as well.

For this reason, I am for the PF going to the convention, so that the party structures can be defined before elections next year. The new draft constitution says the Vice president automatically becomes president without elections when the president of the country is incapacitated or passes on? On the expense of being called a racist, is Zambia ready for a white president 46 years after independence? Or maybe PF is better of with GBM as vice although he seems not to know what he wants and has now dramatically rescinded his resignation.

  1. PF will go to a convention at the right time. It true people need to be elected. Whilst Sata may seem to be PF for now there are plenty of leaders out there withing PF who are ready to take the mantle should anything happen to Sata.

  2. Rubish article. LT, please you should now what is news from junk. For your own information, Guy Scot is a Zambian so he qualifies to hold any constitutional office. Secondly, concetrate on your MMD than showing interest in the PF which you despise so much. People who vote for Sata will know how to remember him, not few of you who dont vote for him. I dont see the MMD being democractic unless you have difficaulties to understand the word democracy.

  3. Maybe the author can comment – at which MMD convention was RB elected vice-president? Or was he appointed by his party president? Atase…

  4. What is your problem, lets cross the river when we get there. PF is short of leaders, don’t just narrow your self to useless former useless secretary generals who are on the streets looking for jobs.

  5. The issue should be about the democratisation of the PF and the party existing without the name of Sata. The issue of Guy Scott being a potential President of Zambia does not arise at all because the Constitution says he cannot be – and that is why Guy, Simon Zukas, and Dipak Patel resigned in 1996 when Chiluba pushed the current discriminatory Constitution.

  6. You have outrightly put it that sata managed to build his party on his own from the scratch – which is the reason why he hasn’t subjected himself to any elections until such a time we hold a convention to elect new leaders. mind you we need a delegation of 6,500 for the convention and money.

  7. There is only one thing about LT that has improved; the grammar of the articles seems they fired the chap who was taking us back to grade 1. Otherwise ba LT assess the newsworthiness of your articles before publishing them. Dont give us silly opinions about democracy when you yourselves don’t even know anything about it. GO PF/UPND pact. We are coming like a locomotive mulesunda come 2011.

  8. Timely advice to the PF.Ignore it at your own peril. No need to rubbish such a well balanced and articulated article.Yes truth hurts but somebody has to tell it.
Now the question is…..are the above bloggers Sata’s supporters or PF’s supporters?

  9. To me this is a well written article, except of course the last paragraph which I deem a bit off course. Someone before, pointed out that Sata’s track records is full of success stories when he is on the scene and failures when he is not present. Look at how miserable LCC became after he left – and incidentally it was RB, if I am not mistaken, who took over! Both are washed out old men who need to move over!

  10. Wow that is food for thought! As much as many people wouldnt want to think of the end of the great man(Sata),I think its imperative that we do so,so that a situation like the Mwanawasa one doesnt occur. If i were Sata i would start prepairing my next President, and HH should not be one of them for party members would find it difficult to accept him.Guy Scout and GBM are not presidential marterial.Someone knew to the presidential arena but old in the politics game though not common would be good.Expecialy one that has the Zambians at heart

  11. Mr Daimone Siulapwa, you have spoiled whole this good article by your racist inclination. Zambia is ready for a president who is going to deliver to the people of Zambia the services they Zambians have always been denied of and they are ready for a president who will inspire them into innovation, industrous, hard work for themseves, etc to restore their dignity. And this president must be a Zambian of any ethnic background. Zambia should be a model of Africa just like it was has always been a model as a liberator almost all the southern african states from imperialism. In short Guy Scott is a Zambian and deserves anything Zambian regardless of his color.

  12. Iam pretty sure very soon- in less than 3 decades, we will be having Members of Parliament of Chinese origin. And with any measurement thats ok if they are Zambians by birth or whatever applicable law.

  13. However, your articles is very good and I also support the PF convention. Fortunately, according to news reaching my desk, PF will hold a convention b4 2011 elections.

  14. Good article.Yes let us hope the king cobra will push for a convention to give chance to the black mamba`s,puff aders and pythons e.t.c

  15. Siulapwa,Are you related to one Siulapwa in opposition? Well, your articles is worth reading everything comes to nothing in your final paragraphs.Good writers or journalists are those that do their work out of curiosity & pro-revolution. In your aricle-you were just trying to take us round one point & that is Sata not being a good leader in your own MMD misguided opininon. Sata has come a long way using his self-generated money to become so popular & at par with a taxpayer funded MMD. There is no need of choosing a time for convention on his behalf by you-start with MMD who can afford such a money consuming function at the expense of your little earnings & the poor out there. Coming to the title-please go back to school & learn what exactly a title needs to depict?

  16. The biggest problem with Sata is that he does not believe in systems & he does not know how to delegate duties. Sata believes in micro managing everyone under him. Such a leader is not good for a young democracy like ours & he very likely to be dictatorial and oppressive. Sata does not trust any one, that explains why he appoints and dis-appoints all key members of his team. He is an attention seeker who wants to be associated with all that goes on in his party. As a president were would he find time to check on council garbage collectors reporting late for work? His other major problem is that he will be a diplomatic disaster for Zambia.

  17. One Peter@13. Your are right-Thats why africa will never develop until end of the world because of this kind of thinking.May be that is the reason why it has taken almost the whole alloted time of the existence of the universe & human life for our fellow white people to accept us as somehow equal but then even that acceptance is just to ensure we share with them our rich resources while we wallow in our meiocrisy.

  18. Zed Patriot@18. Dont ride on illusion. My bro! Change doesnt come without some sort of crisis-take me right! Dipolmatic disastor in what sence? please dont just jugle on any words that hovers on your grey matter because it is unwise. Sata may ehibit some dictatorial tendencies but outrightly a president needs that sort of personality. Give me an example of an individual who was fired wrongly by one Cobra? All of them have just been tainting PF picture. If a leader is wrong, relieve them of their duties & appoint those who are not perfect but are willing to serve the poor with honest. We have seen GW Bush fire comandas & Obama just fired a general not after many issues-just one. Leaders who cannot show authority are just job presevers. They cant go anywhere except to please anyone.

  19. Only CHIFITA can be president of Zambia!!!!!! [-x
Only CHIFITA and CHIFITA alone can be president of Zambia!!! [-x
I don’t want to see no boogas (whites), mwenyes (indians) or choncholis (chinese/asians) in our parliament NO!! I don’t want to see them hold no position of power at all NO!!! Them are not patriotic to hold such positions! Them have always been aloof and such they should remain!! No, no, no!!! [-x

  20. #21 you are the biggest junk on this blog. i never thought we still have such backward people like you under the sun. to you being a Zambian is equivalent to black and therefore anything not black is not Zambian. what a fool!! you should change your thinking man. you are a racist..a blood racist. where i live racism is all over and i always tell myself and friends that am luck and proud cause my country is not like that, little did i know that there are people like you. you are a shame…shameeeeeeeeeee! you are a disgrace to Zambia.

  21. ya even chinese they should come into parliament then they will truly be stakeholders in the future, not just extracting metals

  22. georgeWbush@20: there are numerous examples of dictatorial tendencies in Sata but unfortunately most of his followers just turn a blind eye to such misdemeanors. A good example is his decision to expel 22 MPs from his party just because they exercised their constitutional right to participate in the NCC. That might seem insignificant to some of you but that just gives you a clear insight of what type of a person Sata is. Anyone who crosses his path he deals with them ruthlessly even if it means ordering his body guards to pour chibuku on a woman MP. Just imagine what sort of things such a person would do if given the instrument of power especially the degree of authority a Zambian president has under the current constitution. Should we also forget that this is the same Sata who ….

  23. #21 zedian my brotha!
PLEASE don’t force me to like what I don’t like!
I don’t want to see ba mwisa in charge of my country Zed, NOOOOOO!!!
And donchu start with me, inshifulwa bwino!
Only CHIFITA and CHIFITA alone, period!
    Paasopo!

  24. ..cont fro 24..Sata who ordered his henchmen to whack opponents of Chiluba’s 3rd term with machetes in Chawama? Do you really need reminding that Sata is the most uncouth of all the presidential candidates Zambia has ever had? If you compare what Sata has said about the Chinese, Indians or even the British whenever they cross his path you would rank RB as an angel by far. Sata is one person who thrives on exploiting his followers short memory spans by continuously changing his political positions faster than a chameleon would change it’s colours in changing environments.

  25. Very interesting article indeed! It is very true…”the truth hurts”. Lets have elected leaders in PF, convention or no convention. Otherwise the party will continue to be a sangwapo party with all sorts of characters and no national agenda at all.

  26. I agree with the author that Sata personally transformed the patriotic front from being a part of no substance to the second largest, if not largest, political part in Zambia.. No thing I have noticed is that PF is Sata and Sata is PF. People who vote for PF do not do so because they love the party but Sata. Granted MMD plots people to dethrone Sata from the PF presidency one month before the elections and he goes to form another another party on which to stand on, all the current members of PF would shift to the new party. Let RB or HH do so and see what happens to them. Love him or hate him, Sata is a formidable presidential candidate and all things being equal he is going to be the next president.

Convention is not a legal requirement for the existence of a political party.

  27. On “Further, he made the anti-corruption crusade waged by Mwanawasa an issue, declaring that he will pardon former President Chiluba if elected.

The message found resonance on the Copperbelt and in Lusaka, Luapula and Northern provinces. By the time the 2006 general elections were coming, Michael Sata and PF were by far the biggest threat to Mwanawasa and the MMD’s hold on power.

This was so despite the alliance of the UNIP, UPND and FDD, who formed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)” the writer has rightly mentioned that that the support base of PF is the Bemba speaking group of Zambians which was sympathetic to Mr PF/Sata MC’s dropping of Mr Bemba speaker corruption cases, but I find it disturbing that the writer chose to ignore late UPND leader A.K. Mazoka’s death…

  28. ZEDPATRIOT@24. Not a dime of a reason really. if you allude to those MPs,you probably cloud your good reasoning. Its a pity that our leaders are driven by the smell of money even the churches. Many of them have reaped poor people’s sweat let alone continue taking them for a ride like Machungwa is doing. Of all people in zambia-Machungwa was been looked to as an intellectual & wise leader but his true colours unvelled when he went head over heels to rally the constitution that has just helped the rich get even richer like Chifumu & Zolomis. It becomes a problem if people are let loose to do what they choose to. There has to be authority & loyalty-not blind loyalty like UPND youths of Cosmas. As a leader, sometimes you have to make the toughest of decisions & consistency is paramount.

  29. Success in building a political party shld be given to Sata yes, but commendation should go to late Mazoka who beat trick Chiluba and Mwanawasa in 2001 elections and Mazoka’s performance is yet to be beaten by either Sata or HH both in terms presidential votes, parliamentary and number of local govt seats.Anyway Sata is an empty politician I have ever heard of.

  30. I for one would rather see a white man rule zambia. Can you point to any african country ruled by an afican since independence and tell me there is development? Even pa RSA ruled by De clark tho with an iron fist, we have seen Airports(jo’burg) that can be compared to Heathrow. The rest are mared by poverty, war,AIDS,corruption & name the rest. Not saying that western govt have no such vices, Africa manufactures them. When China is busy expoliting africa & developing its own country,we are busy in corrutpion even giving away our natural resourses for a piece of bread. We saw how Australiaian investors backed out upon introduction of Windfall taxes, but i can reliably tell you that they have instead introduced another method of ensuring invesrors payback. In africa only underhand methods…

  31. Some people have the guts to lineup for Sata, history repeat itself, not too long ago, Sata,Dean, Teta called Mazoka a sick man. Where Teta and Dean today? and what is hapening to Sata, guess what? am privaldged to infom from PF STAFF at the secretariate that Sata is very hill and were wondering how he will manage to cover the whole country to campaign upto 2010 since he goes on a machine from 14 to 17hrs to shape his heart. Furthermore, the staff revealed that the Doctor advised to stay away from politics otherwise he will be nonore by the end of next year. One of the sata’s daughter said ‘dad should stop politics to preserve him’. In short is it his time to payback by taking advantage of others when sick. The vuvuzelas, the post took a dialysis machine in the post newspaper in order…

  32. #22 Dont hide in the racial talk but face reality! CAN you allow with openhearted ZAmbia to have a MWENYE as president or CHINEESE? (i have worked with a lot of mwenyes). Why cant whites allow blacks to there Presidents? (Dont tell me of obama, becoz that is not a white peoples land but mixture-blacks & whites are not american originals).

Pls let us discuss objectively. Zambia is for Blacks whether you like it or NOT. We shall not allow any other colour to rule us. They had there own time until 1964. If we want mwenyes, then Kaundas, winas, etc laboured in vain.

  33. Real Change @34. How do we know if you are not just one of those jobseekers. There is no organised person who can rely own such allegations. In this age, reffer us to something documented then we can reliably give you our well informed sentments. Mazoka is long gone and we must not break our bones for a dead man. Am sure he may even be laughing at you right now.

  34. georgeWbush@31: I just gave you one example of Sata’s dictatorial style of leadership. If I had to catalog all cases I might end up filling a whole book. It’s up to you to look at Sata with an unbiased eye and examine your concise to see whether he is an unblemished leader. Yes some degree of dictatorship could be tolerated but not the blatant dictatorship and intolerance exhibited by Sata even before he steps a foot at State House. The warning signs are there for all to see. Even the latest episode of firing GBM demonstrates Sata’s clear disregard for procedures. He fired his Chairman for elections without consulting anyone or giving the man a chance to defend himself. As correctly pointed out by GBM why didn’t Sata do the same to Mushili and Willi Nsanda?

  35. Diamone, indeed this is thought is diamond for PF.
Saddening tho’ to see that you remain a man on ‘skin-colour’ and not on the person. If you see Scott in the light of colonialism then you are still colonislised in every aspect. Should your open eyes to see a Zambian who has served and been influencial in various political positions, then you are child of Zambeziland. I shudder to think of those who are influenced but this ‘colour article’.

Diamone, are there two different maggots for white and black people in death? Time you researched on this if your sentiments in this article are to qualify.

  36. Goergewbush@36 Sata is a finished polical sickness. Am not looking for a job frm anyone as u are looking for one frm Sata. If even became Presidnet I would want to be in his administration.I dont associate in any serious undertaking with the calibre of pipo like Sata for President, Willie Nsanda Mininster of Finance, Mshili minister of Justice, GBM Minister of Gender and so on and so forth.

  37. MMD never elected its President either! And it still left the position of Vice President of the party empty! Chiluba was the elected president of MMD and Enock Kavindele was the Vice president. What happened to these two after Mwanawasa came? Real democracy batata?

  38. A hypocrite is one who wants people to do what he or she won’t do. A lot of you bloggers who say Zambia is for blacks, you’re hypocrites because you are not wishing the best for Zambia. I realize that you don’t care for what’s best for Zambia becoz you don’t live in Zambia. Zambia is for all Zambians where black or not.

  39. Guy Scot would be the best person to lead PF. He is the brain behind PF and does not carry the political garbage inherit of Sata. PF will be more popular with him at the helm because he would be accepted in all corners of Zambia.
On another note, let me point out to all PF cadres on this blog that UPND and MMD have some internal democratic systems. They may not be perfect but they are far much better than the dictatorship perpetrated by Sata’s PF.

  40. #28 mwamba11 yes sata is a formidable candidate in the areas where they buy his nonsense, even if he forms a party today all those who expect money magically in their pockets will vote for him and those of us who know his theatricals can not give him a vote.so sata is no genius.he is just a wapped loonie who has hoodwinked his fellow tribesmen and some poor souls whose levels of understanding whom the man realy are at half mast like you

  41. So this author has a latent issue with race? What does it matter that Guy Scott is white? Hes just as Zambian as anyone else. Is it an issue that Obama is black and now US President. Personally, given a chance to choose between RB and Scott as President, id go for Scott. Period!!

  42. In my opinion ther article is written by someone expressing his views. It is well ariculated with facts on the ground.Usually meaningfull debates are brought about by people that think or originate ideas, the unfortunate thing is that there are sheep and goats out there and this article has managed to distinguish between them. It matters less whether the author is MMD, PF, or UPND what matters is the substance of the article. Our true democracy in Zambia will come when we Zambians ourselves begin to genuinely discuss issues unbiasly without aligning the divergent views to the political party we don’t like.LTT has put up an infrastructure for us to engage each other and share our divergent views on issues.

  43. maybe the racism was bad, but I thought the article has substance. Will the PF please move and show us that it is bigger than Sata. I for one doesnt like Sata and for as long as PF = Sata, then many like me will not give a vote. The 2001 elections were intersting in that you had pipo voting for a UPND President, a FDD MP and a UNIP Councillour. This was because the variuos indivdual articulated issues they stood for properly. But now, under PF, its follow the leader. When Sata says Chiluba is innocent, very Kaponya must say so. When he changes his mind, so too should his Kaponyas. Please Zam,bians, can we be seriuos for once????

  44. Sata is from the UNIP generation. Kaunda appointed all Senior Government officials, the UNIP Party Ranks and well as Managing Directors of all Parastatal Companies. Basically, KK was the ALPHA and the OMEGA. It is believed that he appointed the first Headmasters of David Kaunda Secondary School and Helen Kaunda Secondary School. Thus subsequently!

The write word for that is DICTATOR

  45. LT HIT THE NAIL ON ITS HEAD.A good organisation is a system governd by many parts with proper protocol and a defined chain of command not amapilikiti we see in PF if u ve noticed Only the outspoken alleged pf members are the ones that get media coverage E.G mumbi phiri, that mwenye luk alike and sata himself.U need a defined structure ba pf 1 shud not determine whose who.Is Sata God 2 pick people based on his own assumptions. We dont vote on a popularity basis but gud governance qualities which shud be seen in yo party.

  46. Time and again history has kept documenting that all hate mongers who have schemed against President Chiluba have miserably hit the wall and surrendered their lives to hell. Judge Japhet Banda, Levy Mwanawasa, Zambia Police Lusaka commanding officer Greenwell Ng’uni and 2 other Zambians are now gnashing their teeth in hell with agony as a reward for tramping on an innocent Chiluba.

  47. #20 georgeWBush. Thanks for seing through my argument. And you are also very right @20 and the previous contribution. I like Sata. He is a very gifted man who can both talk and do (perform). Sata is a very decisive person and he doesn’t care who is affected by his decision(s). He also has a natural belief to do something for Zambia. He believes in hardwork. Thats why when he was once minister of health in mmd govt all hospitals and health centres started to have drugs and became very clean. Not only that- our doctors and nurses even started to come back from diaspora. It has never happened in Zambia’s life apart from the opposite. When he became labour minister, again, labour law started to improve and dignity started coming back to the Zambian labour force. As if that wasn’t enough-…

  48. from # 52…as Lusaka City Council governor he did quite a number of improvements to the city. He bought long distance buses for the city council’s revenue, he constructed fly-over bridges near both Kabwe and Kafue round abouts where trains claimed a lot of lives for a long time. He improved the city’s cleanliness to a great conspicous extent. He made people work. It was through his initiative and hard work that put him at cross roads with his boss Kafupi. But, he is simply an achiever and you can’t get it away from him. This is the man Zambia currently needs to set the country in working motion and not tourists.

  49. #29 ubulimi bwakale ubo. Probably even the man himself realised the mistake (if there was any). Everyone makes mistakes. But, as long as you realise and improve on your mistakes- you are ok. Since RB occupied office he came with mistakes and he is so stiff-necked he has continued with even more serious mistakes. GO SATA SHOW THEM LEADERSHIP.

  50. A wise bemba once said ‘winshinsha nshilanwa’ . In literal translation it goes ‘dont clean my anus before i even start or finish’. In this sense Meaning/implying not to rush Sata/PF in their infancy, they are yet to grow and mature. Lets desist from speculationsPROPHETS ME DOOM.

  51. job well done LT am just disapointed with your recial remarks at the end, we must embrace diversity, BLACK OR WHITE IF THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO RULE ZAMBIA AND QUALIFY TO BE ZAMBIAN BY IN LEGAL INTITLEMENTS, THEN LETS NOT SEGREGATE WE ZAMBIA IS READY TO VOTE FOR ANY COLOUR AS A PRESIDENT.
I KNOW PF BIGGOTS WILL NOT SEE SENSE IN THIS ARTICLE LET THEM IGNORE IT AT THERE ON PERIL, ANY ORGANISATION THAT HAS BEEN MICRO MANAGED (ONE MAN SHOW POWER) IS BEND TO FALL AND THIS IS VERRY TRUE WITH PF IF SATA DIES TODAY ! GOD FORBID PF WILL BE FINISHED AND IT WILL BE PUCKED IN THE IN THE ABBIS OR BOTOMLESS PIT OF ZAMBIAN POLITICS NOT THAT ITS NOT A GOOD PARTY BUT JUST THAT ONE MC SATA WILL GO IN HISTORY AS THE ONE WHO CAUSE THIS DISASTOR AS HE HAS THAT INSECURITY IN HIMSELF

  52. SATA uses a pattern of micromanagement to run his party he does not trust the work or judgment, of any member this s a major factor in triggering disengagement, often to the point of promoting a dysfunctional and hostile environment among members this can lead to Disengagement by members they may not invest their time, effort or creativity, in the party for FEAR THAT KING COBRA WILL BITE THEM. The effects of this phenomenon are worse IN THAT IF SATA DIES PF WILL ALSO DIES, apathy may play a role this THIS KIND OF SPELLS DISASTOR , ITRA-PARTY DEMOCRACY HAS POSTIVE BEARING ON HOW ONE WILL MANAGE THE NATION. SO BA TAATA BA SATA HEED TO ADVISE. SO FAR ONLY UPND HAVE COME OUT CLEAN , MMD EXECUTIVE HAS NO MANDATE OF ITS MEMBERS TOO ALL WE HAVE ARE IS AN APOINTED VP AND PRESIDENT. GOD HLP US

  53. When things are going well radical issues tend to be ignored. During Mwanawasa’s reign there were many party constitutional diversions but because he was a ‘good’ president wrongs were sidelined. Although this article is somewhat racist against Guy Scott (the Swine flu Guy who went Scott free), there is a point in it. Parties need to expose themselves to some democratic processes such as conventions so that citizens can assess their potential to lead the country. None of the political parties at the moment have done it, not even MMD. It was quite exciting hear about Remmy Mushota and Peter Machungwa carrying K400m cash in a suit case during one of MMD convetions, was that the last one? No wonder Chiluba is smiling after his acquittal.

  54. Sata is a doer and he has a track record in getting things done. Zesco fly over bridge, Zambia’s first ever medical insurance etc. give the guy a chance to run the country. I think he can do it.

  55. sata is pragmatic he knows very well what is fighting for the people,he is very ripe for the job come 2011 plse try the cobra he is gifted in every respect. At the moment zambia needs the type of sata for presidence to get her out of the mud.Sata has the ability to inspire zambians to do their best for their nation.
