President Banda has challenged the women’s movement in the country to strongly protest against the battering of women. The President said women in Zambia should reject men who beat up their wives. President Banda said no man should be allowed to beat up his wife in the name of love.
He said the practice should be rejected in the strongest possible terms. Mr Banda said love should not be about beating spouses. The President was speaking in Chawama after commissioning the first level Hospital in the area.
Kasama Central Patriotic Front Member of Parliament Goeffrey Mwamba was on Monday arrested and charged for assaulting his wife, Chama, following a domestic row. Mr Mwamba who is popularly known as GBM will tomorrow appear in the Lusaka Magistrate court for assault.
Meanwhile, President Rupiah Banda has commissioned the newly upgraded first level Chawama hospital in Lusaka. The occasion was witnessed by thousands of Chawama residents at Chawama football ground this morning.

Speaking after commissioning the hospital, President Banda said government is committed to providing quality health care close to the families.
President Banda said government is currently constructing 26 District Hospitals at 65 billion Kwacha across the country. He said eight of the hospitals which include the Lusaka general hospital will be completed this year.
Mr Banda said this will improve access to quality health care for people in the country. President Banda said Chawama Hospital including four others in the capital will help decongest the University Teaching hospital-UTH.
The other four up graded clinics in Lusaka are in Kanyama, Chilenje, Matero and Chipata compounds. Mr Banda also said a power generator has been bought to help address a critical shortage of power at the new hospital.

Don’t for the sake of the party you belong to. Be objective about spouse battering.
Thanks RB for yr advice. we go ahead and protest both wife battering and yr failure to register London Judgement. The following day we will continue honking for yr bad leadership.
Don’t comment for the sake of the party you belong to. Be objective about spouse battering.
Ask mabenga please……daughter clobbered by husband. Where is she today. I totally condemn wife battering. If there be walks i be first to stand up. I have a son and daughter.

Yes, We will protest even marring the Under age.
Its like RB is overwhelmed with commissioning developmental projects. At this rate,Sata must loathing to be associated with this development.
But if it was one of his people that had battered his wife man wouldn’t have said this, he makes me sick, he needs to have his head examined right under that chi same MRI machine he was commissioning yesterday at UTH.
But if it was one of his people that had battered his wife rupiah wouldn’t have said this, he makes me sick, he needs to have his head examined right under that chi same MRI machine he was commissioning yesterday at UTH.
It is now a political capital for the MMD.
GBM’s case is receiving the attention it deserves from law enforcers. So why protest ? What is protesting going to achieve which the police have failed ?
On The President said women in Zambia should reject men who beat up their wives. What exactly is “rejecting” ? Are insinuating divorce ?
The Bible says if a man sends away (divorces) his wife for ANY reason other than adultery, he causes her to commit adultery and therefore sins.
Beating a wife (spouse) does not guarantee divorce at all.
Very good advice from RB, though he left out the need to protest about shooting of unarmed perceived enemiez.
can this man and his shallow mind please shut up!
# 6, You made my day- that is true, we should protest marring under age-lol
# 4 Just because you are not married you think people will never fight in there homes, foolish thinking infact do you know why they fought. Don’t just comment some of us have faced these problems before in our bedrooms.
# 6 you are right, lets have a combination of the two walks.
Tho it is some good advice just make sure that those women will leave their homes in order ,otherwise to some the day of protest may just be another blessing in disguise(will be clobbered by their husbands on their return for not cooking).lol
Yes aBanda, we shall protest at all the things that is wrong in the country. We will start with those who marry their own children like yourself. Then move on to those who are shielding criminals like FTJ and Chungu. Next will be those women who steal from government as Ghost Workers. The list will continue and the last protest will be next year when MMD will be kicked out. That will be the biggest protest.

Good news. Great to see the new hospitals coming on board. Keep up the good work.
Now protests are legal? Come on RB, what do you take us for? When we wanted to protest against your misdeeds, protesting became illegal. Grow up and act your age. One day you will also be on the wrong end of the stick. Mark my words old man. Those who come to seek justice should come with clean hands.
Yes well said RB.
But we will not just end there, we will extend it to protesting against marrying the under age like you have done, against shielding thieves like chiluba, against protecting killers like Dr Musonda, aginst lady swindlers like Changwe and last against your lack of wisdom in dealing with the donnors.
Guys let us go and protest as RB has said.
Hehe.
I thought under-age marriage involvez a girl/lady under 16?
I do not condone spouse battering, but please RB do not be selective if you want people to respect you. We should protest against spouse battering as well as others wrongs(selective justice, poverty, corruption, etc)
#14, I tend to believe that men who beat their spouses are cowards, insecure and have tiny johnies. Dialogue is very important in a relationship. Your wife is not your child. She is a grown-up and you are partners! If you feel your wife is wrong, talk about it. If she does the same thing again talk about it some more. If she does it again, involve bashi mbusa. But some of you do the opposite. You beat your spouse first before your initiate dialogue. To you I say grow up bratty boy and be a man! A real man.
# 24 Phiri I agree with you. Men who beat their wives are cowards, insecure and probably have little willies. The coward I used to call brother in-law used to beat my sister every time he got drank. One day he beat my sister so badly she ended up in hospital. My brothers who where 15 and 17 at the time went to his house and beat his sorry a$$ up and he ended up in hospital too. Since then the coward never put a hand on my sis again. Thankfully my sis never had a child with him and she left this sissy of a man!
In the age of computers, I find it strange that some men still hit their wives. What are you teaching your children? Some of the men that beat their wives are products of abusive homes. Next time before you hit your wife, think back to the time when your dad used to hit your mum. Think at how much you wanted to kill your dad because he was hurting the most important woman in your life. Thats probably how your kids feel too. Except may be your child will act on that impulse and kill you!
Wife battering should never be condoned by any civilized society. Much as RB is calling on women to protest what GBM did to his wife, how I wish he could have called on the same women groups, encourage them to protest when the mother are losing their dignity by delivering babies on the streets while he is busy touring the world. UYu ena president Banda twali fakapula ba Zed. He is so cheap!…God help us
I think that Bembas should go and protest in order to get rid of this illegitimate govt in order to put the rightful rulers of this country in their rightful place. GBM is royal. He has the right to do whatever he wants with somebody who is his subject.
Has anybody seen the new hospital? What is it like? Good for the local people who wont have to travel far to get medical help.
Eeeh Ba Sugar D Ba RB be gender sensitive. Even husbands sometimes are battered. So let us condemn all violence be it at political gatherings, party leadership conferences. Where is Magande, Mpompo?
I can safely foretell that the Times and the ZDM were over each in fighting to get the best picture of RB walking through the hospital full of patients on NEW BEDS-just check 2moro s papers.
If my predication will be correct ask yourself why i got it correct!!!!
Malawi’s former President Bakili Muluzi has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of corruption, in his long-running trial at the High Court in Blantyre.
He was arrested in 2005 and accused of diverting a total of $12m (£8m) in funds donated by Taiwan, Morocco and Libya, among others.
He has always said the charges were linked to his dispute with his successor, Bingu wa Mutharika.
Mr Muluzi stepped down in 2004 after serving as president for 10 years.
He retired from active politics in 2009 due to ill-health.
His trial has been delayed by his health problems, with his lawyers saying the former president is too ill to take the stand.
Mr Muluzi says he has had undergone three operations on his back

No 32 Pazu and this man (Muluzi) had the same woman problems as FTJ.as his wife was been subdued by her body guard! It was a real “The Bodyguard” story!
#31 I look forward to seeing the photos you are talking about. It is good that this development is happening for ordinary Zambians.I look forward to the other new hospitals being built as they should bring relief not only to the patients but also to the staff who will be working in much better conditions which should also improve morale.
You chaps; nimwe bamuse ela kwakaba.
Was it really necessary for the HEAD of state to start issuing such statements publicly? How many women misbehave to the point of driving their human husband crazy he hits them? That was a domestic issue and Mr President should NOT have gone too public with it in his capacity a republican president on media.
Is he also going to say that if you catch your wife F3@#$$ing another man you have to ask RB what to do? I’m no advocating for voilence in homes, but anger is somthing emotional …any one can make a mistake and beat up there own.
Mr republican president, please leave such comments to the Legal authorities and family members. Is Tandie your first wife???
More and more development coming into the nation.
We are seeing development and people are starting to benefit in terms of roads, hospitals, schools, low food prices. This is great news.
I also agree with the president that wife battering is not a sign of love and women must stand up against the act.
Good evening bane.
We must rejoice because the ban on protests has been lifted by his excellence the RB.
RB grow up and behave like president, think before you open your big mouth.
Lupiya Banda, where is Hope Mwansa? She is the mother to your children, let us know.
Under age marriages should be prohibited too!!
Its clear that things are not favoring Sata and God is against his dream. Zambians and world are seeing a success story for RB. From Japan to the Global multilateral institutions its all accollades for RB and his Zambia. What will we campaign on with these developments of Hospitals, schools, Roads networks, Port hubs, railways and jobs being created daily?
IMF sees strong Zambia economic growth in 2011
LUSAKA (Reuters) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Wednesday Zambia, whose economy will grow by 6.6 percent this year due to rising copper output and a rebound in tourism, should register strong economic growth next year.
The IMF released a statement after completing a review mission to Zambia.
Zambia raised its 2010 economic growth forecast to 6.6 percent last week from a June forecast of 5.8 percent after a higher than expected performance in the first half of the year.
“Growth is expected to remain strong in 2011 and over the medium term,” the IMF said.
The IMF said inflation was expected to rise towards the end of 2010 when food prices were projected to rise and due to still high non-food prices.
“There is some risk of rising inflation towards the end of 2010 and into 2011, given the onset of the lean agriculture season and still high non-food prices,” it said.
Zambia’s inflation slowed to 8.2 percent year-on-year in August mainly due to decreases in food prices. The central bank has said the southern Africa country is on track to achieve its target of 8.0 percent inflation by year-end.
The IMF urged Zambia to cut its public spending and improve its revenue collection ways to boost state coffers.
“The upcoming 2011 budget presents an opportunity to put in place measures aimed at boosting revenue collections, as well as to seek savings and efficiency gains in the area of current spending, including importantly on wages and goods and services,” the IMF said.
The statement said Zambia’s current account deficit would rise to almost 4 percent of GDP in 2011 from 2.4 percent in 2010 when the country starts building large energy and infrastructure projects.
“Looking forward, the government faces the challenging task of providing fiscal space for increasing priority capital spending, within a macroeconomic framework that would preserve financial stability, single digit inflation and debt sustainability,” it said.
Finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said last week Zambia would borrow $2 billion between 2011 and 2013 to fund infrastructure projects, raising the debt ratio to 14.9 percent of GDP from 9.1 percent, which was still sustainable.
I think there is a difference between marrying somebody who is below the legal age of consent and a big age difference. If a woman in her thirties agrees to marry a man who is in his 60s or 70s or vice versa I see no problem with that. That situation can not be equated to maliciously battering your spouse. If people cant see the difference then it brings into question the intellectual capabilities yet again of PF kaponyas.
Thank you Your Exellency, President Banda for the wisdom and strong condemnation of spousal abuse. There is no room for violence in the modern era. Spousal abuse is primitive, backward & cowardly behavior. If your partner is getting under your skin, take a walk or a jog and let your emotions cool off. This should be a warning to those that engage in such behavior, we will smoke you out, call you out, arrest you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law. And once behind bars, I hope someone pummels these thugs so they can have a taste of being on the receiving end. Some one needs to sort out GBM with vigilante justice for a taste of his own medicine or what he calls “love” and we will see what he thinks of tough/brutal love then. Thanks President Banda 4 the guidance to Zambia

I am not for RB. Just to remind you. RB pregnated Thandiwe when she was 30yrs. Mind you – she is just about to turn 40. She was not under age. Talk about something else please. Your comments are cheap. She was a grown up woman.
Thandiwe grew in Parklands & Riverside in Kitwe and was in the same class with my Elder Brother who just turned 42 last june. Her father studied together with my uncle in the UK in 1967.
Those that keep making nasty comments about Thandiwe, they should leave this woman alone. Most of this is driven from Envy& Jealousy! And the fact that she became one of the youngest First Ladies at the age of 37 years. Move on people – Bitterness is hindering your blessing in life. Please get a life. Its her decision.
Hope Mwansa, Ati bwa???? Tiuzeni.
Actually Thandiwe grew with a good life. Her Dad was a Regional Marketing Director for PTC now called Zamtel. She comes from a descent family. Her brother works for an Investment Banker in the UK, two other brothers as a Principal Biologist in Ministry of Agriculture, the other is in Procurement in the Ministry of Agriculture as well.
# 53, you already told us about Thandiwe last time, thanks for the info- the Problem is Mr RB, AND THE WAY IS GOING ON WITH THINGS IN OUR BELOVED COUNTRY ZAMBIA. What do you think about RB?
People should also protest against the use of fire arms by MPs on innocent cadres!! And oh what about William Banda and Mulondwa Muzungu’s son? Ubuwelewele ba Rupiah!!
RB you cannot condemn wife battering while you go deaf when you own MMD cadres threaten to gang rape women. Violence against women must be condemned regardless of who commits the offence.
Women should also be protected from Sugar Daddies. Let us restrict age difference in marriage. It affects logical thinking
# 57 what is your name again? You look like when RB was battered by Thandiwe after a night out with Dora.
#51 and #53,Who cares whether Thandiwe had a good life and what her immidiate family have achieved?I personally do not care and the fact still remains he is old enough to be her Grandfather, but what surprises me is RB’s exictement over the GBM issue, when He was using his wife to distribute cash a few weeks ago that is as good as psycological battering she should have been shopping or at a beauty palour instead of being used to try and bribe the electorate,Shame on him Kolwe aleseka Ichipato cha munankwe at least GBMs wife is not fit to be his daughter.Again I do not condone spousal battery be it male or female.I rest my case.
i agreed with you RB, we should allow people to protest on what ever they dont like. Umutembo ufinina konsenkonse. People are free as well to protest about London judgement non appeal.
we should further protest against gang raping of women.Let us learn to conderm what is wrong wether it is our PF, UPND or indeed MMD.
Thanks for the words of wisdom His Excellency RB. No. Wife battering! No No No. Not even child abuse should be entertained in this nation. Thanks MMD
A granddaughter went to visit her grandfather with her female friend. Instead of the old man looking after the two kids, he dragged the friend into the bedroon and made her pregnant.
The girl made pregnant is now Mrs. Thandiwe Rupiah Bwezani Banda.
Can anybody say there are any morals in the mind of this old man?
# 51 & 53 Ubututu muleke. Dont bring in such stories on the blog. We dont want to hear about your uncle being at the same school with someones dad. The fact is RB is married to a VERY young person fit to be a his grandchild. This is very unusual in Zambia. How many times has he been married? Let other people advise us on marital affairs.
Congratulations on the commissioning of this clinic this is progress I do wish you hadnt spent money on those mobile things….2011 we want you to build on these success no experiments….go Zambia
Some bloggers! awe mwandini. How can you support the HOS (RB) calling when in actual fact he did not mean what he said?Lets learn to read between the lines.
Have you ever heard RB conderm his counterpart William RB no matter how notorius, dangerous, silly he becomes? were the MMD cadres who threatened Edith Nawakwi condermed by His Excellency? Don’t take RB’s statement serious even when they are because he does not mean what he says but to fix his opponents.Period!!!
This president never thinks before he opens his mouth and he seems too forgetful about what happened yesterday, is it dementia? Many bloggers including #66 kch, have made wonderful and intelligent comments about the weird style of our president’s leadership. Personally I never take him seriously as #66 advises.
I thought RB condemned wife battery? Whether he does it, or Sata does it or Fred did it to his first wife Josephine, it remains WRONG. Its like Chiluba preaching against adultery! The bible condemns it as a sin and it remains wrong. It’s the ACT not who has said it!
Women must be also be encouraged to protest against bad governance as well when things go wrong in this country. Let’s see if RB will give you women the same “chimwela” to protest. He can send the police to “motivate” you!
Am waiting for response from chief boot licker, mwata, capitalist etc, if it is okey to abuse women psychologically buy the doing what you demand them to do as in distribution of cash some time back”Tandi operadi”Why judge others when you have got shit in your eyes.
Bring it on ……../ichishinka chilacalipa eat my ……feed on it ………..,it is time our leaders resoned
# 68 her name was jackline, very nice lady but I under stand she went through with a lot with this man
iwe koswe change your name lol
Rb should be ashamed of himself.am not condoning Gbm and what he did was vry wrong.but i dont c how the whole lot of the president should even waste time talking abt some domestic issues.what abt dr musonda, lucy changwe, muzungus son?
Mr President, which one is more heinious attempted murder like Dr Musonda’s case in which you reclined to make a single comment including the state law enorcers or GBM’s wife battering which is just but a common happentance in a home entangled by family feuds as a result of one’s wealth? Its a pity the later has attracted your stein reaction and urge to the populace to demonise GBM who may be a victim of circumstances. PEACE
