Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba has pleaded not guilty to assault and wife battering charges.
Mr Mwamba took plea this morning, before Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Charles Kafunda.
He was accompanied by his wife Chama and lawyer Mumba Kapumpa. The matter comes up for trial on October 21.
Meanwhile Magistrate Kafunda has stated that the application to withdraw the case can only be entertained when trial commences.
This was after Mr Kapumpa attempted to apply for the withdrawal of the case.
Mr Kapumpa told the court that Mrs Mwamba has reconciled with her husband and wants the case to be with-drawn.

Mrs GBM shouldnt have reported her husband to the police in the first place. It seems like the beatings are a normal occurence in their relationship.
Marital isues are complicated as the love and bond is felt by two people.Time to move on forget about this issue there is alot of work to be done.
Ba “Red Card-Beyonce wapa Zed” you sound disappointed that Mrs Mwamba have decided to her fully exercised her legal right by withdrawing her case against her husband and reconcile and reconcile with him. Going by your comment, by the same token therefore, cases of corruption against government ministers and officials should also not be reported to the police merely because those doing so might later decide to withdraw them? What a strange way of thinking!! NGOs might not like the fact that Mrs. Mwamba has decided to keep her marriage, but she is free to make those decisions – not the NGOs or Women’s lobbyists, especially Zambian ones, many of which are led by many of whom have miserably failed in their own marriages. C’est la vie. Move on.
CONT’D…One can only assume Zambia is a nation of laws and both those who are the targets of such laws, the citizens, and those who pass such laws, the legislators, as well as those who are supposed to enforce and administer those laws, the police and the judiciary respectively, would respect and abide by those laws. Let us not personalize issues. Clearly only an imbecile would condone violence, any violence, whether directed at women or whomever, regardless of the perpetrator. But there should also be sensible separation of personal matters and political gymnastics. In Zambia even breaking wind has now become political. What a country!
I hope GBM clobbers this stupid woman everyday for the rest of her life. I think she actualy enjoys being a punching bag and looking at her swolen disfigured face in the mirror. Go GBM, next time give her a good upercut & a nice karate kick or better yet sign her up for a sorting out from Esther Phiri. Stupid woman wasting peoples time.
I can see that Zed Feminist is really fed up with people who waste his time. Who wouldn’t anyway, in this world of time is money? And who wouldn’t anyway, on this blog where we want to hear what is happening with HH, Sata and their Pact, and not a romantic bashing between lovebirds?
Oh well , some of us learn the hard way . Looks like decent morals are thin on the ground with this family.
The case is in the courts of law, while it is a welcome move for the couple to reconcile, the offence of wife battering is not only commited against the victim but also against the state. What will be interesting is to note how the case proceeds from here. We know that the proscution team understands the law of the land better than some of us do. What is obvious thou is that the woman is under intense pressure to act the way she has done including to put up a front of smile. But this incidence has opened up an opportunity for her in future aggressions, the man will probably be wary that the case will end up in police hands.
This sort of behaviour is common amongst victims of domestic abuse. Her self-esteem has been brought so low that she probably feels that she is to blame for the pain that has been inflicted on her. No one is able to do anything about it until she herself feels she has to change the situation. Lets hope that happens before her next clobbering (am sure it will happen again) which might well be her last.
@Chenda Bwamba, my comment is pretty straight foward, I’m not disappointed at all. So there is no need for you to decipher my comment.
#5(Zed Feminist)
Iam with you.GBM should team up with Esther Phiri for some training so that next time, the battering will be with professional taste.
It is really a pity to to have such ladies in society who doo not value their diginity. Bemba men anyway are so abusive to their wives as they believe beating a woman is showing love. These men are not romantic at all and can force sex on a woman in the name of tradition. In our Luvale culture we are taught from childhood that women are to be cherished and not beaten, as such our marrieges stay for life. 2 years ago women in Lusaka were protesting over wife battering,Ray Mwape beat his wife, it was a Bemba man. Mpondela battered his wife, he is Bemba, A policeman Mr Musonda in Sikanze camp last month almost killed his wife, GBM’s issue again Bemba man, and now Chansa Chitika him even killed his wife, and the list goes on. I will never give my daughter for marriage to a Bemba man.
Please Bemba men show some love to women by valuing their diginity. These women are so good when treated with love. Ray Mwape is married to one of the Shatel girls and that girl has suffered a lot due to his cruel behaviour. I wonder if they are still together now. I hope she will leave before this man kills her in the bathroom like Mabenga’s daughter. Bembas, you are a disappointment to our society. The man who raped a lady in UK was again Bemba, shame on you. The Bemba language is a curse to zambia because wife battering it is them, thieving, lies, untrustworth the list goes on…
I will never associate myself to this language, God forbid.
I think Tumbwe is also Bemba, they are the ones who are known for this kind of behaviour.
#12 Kanguya………That is a very interesting observation on Bemba men.You might actually have discovered a social characteristic common to most Bemba men.
This is PHD material……..
My own sister ran away from this Bemba man due to beatings, the man use to beat her nearly everyday in the name of love. I think their Bashi Bukombes should start teaching these men how to respect a woman, for our society’s sake.
A couple of months ago, a bemba chap claiming to be a pastor here in Texas was arrested and convicted for knowingly infecting a string of women with aids, he was stalking & befriending vulnarable women pretending to be a concerned man of God. He is now serving a life sentence. These chaps are very dangerous, primitive & uncivilized. Keep your daughters or family members away from these abusive men at all costs. Even their own bemba women would rather be married to men from other tribes. I dated a bemba woman and she would always tell me she was so intimidated by bemba men because of their abusive tendancies. My Bemba brothers, please refrain from such behavior and respect women, i hope this is a learning moment for you chaps.
Welcome to the world of love.Sometimes you love someone so much that you become blind to a lot of bad things that person does to you.I have been there too and am sure that is where Chama is.Many were times when my brothers and sisters will take me away from my man after some beating. My brothers would also beat him to revenge mine, but i would always find myself back to my man.Love is a feeling that is too complicated for pipo outside the relatioship to undestand.Good luck Chama i know the feeling just know that you are not alone.
Kanguya, you tribalist twit! Your attitude belongs to the ice age. You don’t complain when Indians and Chinese dribble you economically in your own country yet you’re up in arms against bembas? chi.kala chobe mambala!
#5 Zed Feminist, I totally agree. Mdm Chama Mwamba should keep quiet next time fatso clobbers the living $hit out of her. One minute she’s playing victim, nxt you see her kissing madumbo outside the magistrates court (see photo section on the Post online today). If she dares to go to the police nxt time she’s clobbered, the police should clobber her even more for wasting their time! sill.y, foo.lish woman!
I feel sorry for people like Tony and Kanguya,is that how low you can sink? all kinds of people do wrong things, even asians/latinos/white people beat up wives to dearth,Ngoni people,Mandinga people,Kikuyu people,Russians all kinds of people…stop being bitter about Bemba people, you are just hurting yourself and reducing your life span,be merry and love all people around you, unfounded hatred is bad for you. I think it hurts you that most people you meet speak Bemba, not everyone who speaks the language,go to the CB and you will find all tribes speaking Bemba…..
Next time this fool of a woman gets a beating from this sack of unga …she should just keep quiet . . .why waste peoples time. The chief magistrate will not be amused … He has so many cases to attend to and for these iliterate rich BEMBAS to just behave like marketeers is so sad . . . We will only be interested if she dies from a good beating.. ..anything else just keep kool ..she can be battered into a coma and GBM can pay off her foolish inlaws.
GBM just batter her everyday . . . morning…midday…evening….so long she doesnt die otherwise bola izakosa. Money does not work on manslaughter or murder cases
@ 12 Kanguya;
You have a very low self esteem, seared brain,sub-level comprehension of societal norms and exhibiting signs of Dementia.
But #13, your mother is bemba…what’s the matter with you? Have some respect, eeh!
@ Kaguya you stated something that most people I know show towards bembas in Zambia. They are my traditional cousins so I can speak on this so @ pipe calm down. Kaguya it’s your perogative to change your brothers and sisters the bambas. Most people I know equate bembas to nigerians which is not good. Let’s re-educate all Zambian men period.
@ Pipe your first post was a prompt on a level acceptable response to kaguya but the second post contradicts your first. No animal should be allowed to put their hands on ourwomen period.
1. Uushauma po umukashi wakwe ninshi chipuba.
2 Bembas are nuber one tribe follwed by their mbuyas ok just joking people do not be afraid ok!!!!!!!!!
Be wise and call a spade a spade, and not to accept to stay in evil just because other people are doing the same, make a difference in you life and your society at large. I do not care what Russians and Chinese do to their wives as am concerned about a zambian issue here. To be honest Bembas do not treat their wives with respect, just imagine in a marriege when a husband dies or child, they will trouble the woman to an externt where you would call it a sin to love and marry someone. There is no need to insult me guys(affected) when something is pointed out, just accept and change for the better. Accept that a wife is also an adult like you with rights, so give love and respect hence she will do the same in return.
Bemba this bemba that…what is the matter with you people? Lol! Do you like go home, the wife prepares nsima and you eat it with bemba. At the end of the day, retire to bed, make bemba to your partner and sleep. Early in the morning, you bemba up and get ready for a day at the bemba…. People have some dignity. There is life after Bembas. Be proud of who you are. After all, you did not choose to be whatever it is you are. And from where am standing, you all be niggers. So why ma ulcers mumala…. Chill!
What a waste of Police time, and my tax.
let the law take charge
Is it Bemba culture to beat women?
… but hasn’t this case now become THE PEOPLE Vs GBM? She can try to withdraw but the state (The People) should proceed with.
Kanguya you should be a tribalist according to your silly comments on the Bembas. Get it right that all ethnic groupings beat their wives it’s only that they hide in the name of bemba. Donot behave like one famous church grouping that prentend that they dont drink beer yet in the evenings they send the young ones ku matavern to buy beer for them.
Come back to your senses and make constructive comments on topics of such nature. A lot of women like bembas, especially the Easterners.
@31, my understanding is that in Bemba culture wife beating is associated with expressing your affection to your partner or spouse. In other cultures we show affection by taking our partner to a nice dinner or having a nice candle-light evening & enjoying a movie. In Bemba culture a delightful evening means clobbering your wife then kissing & walking hand in hand the following day. Different culture have different acceptable norms. In my culture for instance, gender/spousal abuse is taboo. Hope this answers your question #31. Maybe someone who is bemba can also further shed some light.
