  1. the chinese will temper with your network, dont you know that you are putting on the line their double simcard phone business.fyalapwa value.just one simcard kubomba

  2. zain is still the moct expensive network. I hope lapgreen takes away their clients.

    It annoys me that despite the lousy service and high tariffs consumers are still swayed by their marketing.

    Get on another network if you want zain to continue reducing tarrifs one cannot even have a decent conversation on zain

  3. Zain should disclose the full cost of calls, instead of giving us this piecemeal information of the reductions. In the final analysis, they will still be the most expensive network ever!

  4. #3 jade you are correct zain is still the most exp-ve network pa zed k8 per mn.imagine 1 minute =k480
    why note k8 per minute? here in europe network services they are more like free……..lobe

  5. The k13/second (k780/MIN)is during off peak. Peak hours is k21/sec(1260/MIN).

    @ k780/ $0.16 PER MIN
    @k1260/$0.26 PER MIN

    Am I correct with my calculations?

    And you see they dont even disclose that K13/sec is only during off peak. Taking Zambians for a ride!

    MTN and Cell Z should invest in marketing like Zain has, if they are to increase their market share because their rates are cheaper.

  6. Thanks #6Jade for your rough but true cost breakdown. Indeed too many lies being peddled by these phone companies.. I was in zambia a month ago and couldn’t believe high tariff’s. i had to make international calls back to the office and i swear it costs at least K2500 PER MIN.. I needed at least K20pin scratch card to talk for 5 minutes or so.. An I thought these operators had claimed that tehy had reduced international call rates by 50% a couple of mponth back!!

  7. My observation is that in Zambia generally information and communication services are expensive. Be it Internet, telephone, DSTV etc! I was shocked to find out that monthly cost of DSTV in India is 400 rupees( 40 000 kwacha). Most internet cafe’s will charge at most 20 rupees for an hour(2000 kwacha).Same with telephone recharge very affordable. India is a developing country just like Zambia but why the large difference.

  8. #11 Obi, yes India is a developing country like Zambia BUT (very big BUT) it has almost a billion people. Imagine ZAIN was in India and had a similar market share of roughly 75%. Now 75% of 1b pipo is 750m. If they were to make $1 profit per person per month, they still go home with a colossal $750m a month. In Zambia, given same conditions, that would be around $3m (the actual number of customers).

    Zambia has a small population. There r certain things we can’t achieve just like that.

  9. #12 You are very correct. Sometimes it seems that one has to state the blindingly obvious in order to get a point across. There are some cities in India that have a bigger population than that of Zambia. Indeed there are slums within cities in India that have more people living in them than the whole of Lusaka. That is why for Africa, regional integration is key as it creates large markets which bring about the advantage of economy of scale.

  10. At one time Zain (cell Z by then), confirmed that they had made more profits in Zambia than they made in South Africa and yet south Africa”s economy is much more stronger than Zambia. Bala tulila amasuku pamutwe ba mambala!!!

  11. Zain is very expensive and they are squeezing as they have the largest network. In the meanwhile, Airtel, which has taken over Zain, charges about K33 per minute in India
