ECZ puts off political parties meeting

Share

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has postponed its planned meeting with political parties due to legal implications.

The ECZ said the planned meeting scheduled for today, 30th September 2020 has been put off because issues intended to be discussed in the meeting are actively before the courts of law.

ECZ acting Public Relations Manager Sylvia Bwalya said in a press statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the electoral body does not want to engage in discussions that are under judicial consideration.

Ms Bwalya explained that the issue involves Chapter One Foundation Limited versus the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Attorney General in the Constitutional Court, as well as Getrude Imenda (Suing in her capacity as Deputy Secretary General of the United Party for National Development (UPND) versus the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Attorney General in the High Court of Zambia.

She apologized for the inconvenience caused as a result of the postponement of the meeting and assured stakeholders and the general public of further engagements after the court cases are disposed of.

“The Commission remains committed to engaging all stakeholders regarding the upcoming 2021 General Elections” said Bwalya.

  1. UPND has been a very disruptive party. What they keep forgetting is none of these court disruption, protests have yielded because if they did yield anything HH will be in State house. Look at how much time we have before the elections and being fully aware that election date is not in the constitution. By the time the court cases are concluded, one team will be dancing while the other will be asking question like does 14 days include weekends and going back to court. Why go to court if the accused has agreed to meet. Why not go to court only if the meeting was unsatisfactory.

  2. All this because of one disruptive opposition party which after all this irrelevant inconvenience is still going to lose elections. This is what opposition in this country has been reduced to. Disgusting to say the least

  3. Its wise for ECZ not to hold meetings with political parties that have resolved to discredit a constitutionally established Institution. Nevers Mumba must tell Zambians a full list of his MMD’s Polling Agents and explain as at what his Agents went to sleep rather than observe all proceedings of elections in Lukashya and Mwansabombwe. We know that Mumba’s invasion of MMD led to the migration of many MMD members to other parties. Besides, whilst Kambwili and Kalaba opted to support UPND, Mumba chose to go it alone. If Mumba had ever learn Arithmetic at school, where on Earth did he expect to gain voters in Luapula and Northern Provinces. The presidential eras of KK, Chiluba and Sata could never entertain Mumba’s poisonous allegations.

  4. The PF plans are to prolong the Elections by allowing ECZ to bring in these confusions. Esau Chulu why he is kept even after failing people of Zambia is a bad omen.
