Zambia Police Withdraw Summon of Former Kitwe DC Binwell Mpundu

Share

Police in Kitwe have discontinued a case in which former Kitwe District Commissioner, Binwell Mpundu was supposed to appear for questioning in connection with an alleged illegal meeting he had in Mindolo last week.

Mr Mpundu was scheduled to appear for questioning today at 11:00 hours after he failed to appear on Friday last week as his lawyer, Irvin Mulenga of Irvin and Associates, indicated that he had other commitments to avail him.

And speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Mpundu said his case has been discontinued and will not appear before the police.

“Well, I’m not appearing today, I was informed by the police that I was no longer needed, my assumption is that the police may have decided that it dies down,” Mr Mpundu stated.

But in a separate interview, Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga said the police have decided to end at the Warn at Caution stage, adding that there is no need for Mr Mpundu to appear before the police anymore.

“It is not a case of discontinuation, sometimes we end at warn and caution, he was warned and cautioned and he is still being warned and cautioned up to know, he was advised to ensure he abides by the Public Order Act whenever he wants to conduct meetings,” Mrs Katanga explained.

Mr Mpundu was last week Thursday, warned and cautioned by the police in Kitwe after he allegedly held an illegal meeting with members of Luyando community in Mindolo area.

  1. The PF eventually realized they were going to split their votes by tormenting these two guys, remember they also have some following. Doing things in a hurry and thinking later

  2. A clear case of Police being abused by politicians, suspensions lifted, police case stopped. Very un professional and embarrassing. What a once promising country this one

  3. It’s very shameful that the Zambia Police Command has allowed PF cadres to abuse its officers. This is a clear indication that the Police didn’t act independently. These blunders are becoming very costly to the nation. The Ministry of Justice is overburdened by a serious debt arising from compensations awarded to litigants against the State because of such decisions. It seems the PF under ECL2021 has failed to respect tenets of democracy and governance in all spheres. What legacy will these people leave?

  4. We have confidence in our police as a country. Only upnd violent thugs hate them for obvious reasons. You cant expect a criminal to be fond of police

  5. This only makes sense in a banana republic. The question I ask the police is, did the misdemeanour take place? The answer is yes it did. Then you need to provide reasons for the discontinuance of the case, otherwise the people will have no confidence in your abilities.

Remember you and your relatives are not insulated from the PF-mismanaged economy. In their eyes, that is PF, you are just implements used in extending their corrupt stay in power.

My appeal to you police officer, you need to smell the coffee before the damage is irreversible!

  6. The police are being used to bully Zambian citizens who have divergent view to the pf thugs who have run down the economy . .

  7. Economy, they have failed. Governance, they have failed. Former mayor being abused for not greeting a first lady who is an ordinary citizen like all of us. The office of first lady is not a constitutional one. Legally there is absolutely no difference between the first lady and all the other wives in Zambia, get this FACT right first, and it is very real

  8. I hope you guys realize that the Police is state power. Those vested with defending the constitution must use state power on behalf of their population and the constitution and not against them. Let the penal code and other laws mandating police to act kick in. Quickly withdraw political influence before some unwanted conception forms… it is not too late yet.

  9. I hope the Zambian people have recorded this. The PF are above the law. If Davis Mwila had not sanctioned this trio’s illegal meeting, they would have been in hot soup. BUT when you are PF and have the blessing of the PF SG, you do not need a police permit for a meeting. You can even do a dump in the kitchen at CBU, it would still be legal. Is the Zambian President a real lawyer? He leads the most lawless party in the history of Zambia. KK a Standard 6, knew better than this Lungu.

  10. Mucheleka has been in detention for almost a month and now the non-bailable offense of aggravated robbery has been dropped, even the blind can see that the offense wasn’t from the arresting officer but a politician. Yet someone surviving on a government salary and house is here to talk rubbish as if that were a joking matter. This is the reason some people celebrate when some politicians or those politically connected are in trouble. When MCS grabbed RB’s passport Father Charles Chilinda told him in his face that what he was doing was wrong and he listened. Some people here don’t listen, it’s life in the marrow where it is sweetest
