‘Sata failed to succeed FJT’

Dr Fredrick Chiluba

SECOND Republican president Frederick Chiluba rejected attempts by Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata to take over the presidency in 2001 after realising that the opposition leader’s conduct did not match that of a head of State.

Dr Chiluba, alongside the national executive committee, supported the candidature of late president Levy Mwanawasa when his second five-year tenure of office expired in 2001 which was the reason Mr Sata does not like the former President.

MMD chairperson for information and publicity Dora Siliya said this when she addressed a public rally at Kasakalabwe Middle School in Mpulungu Constituency to drum up support for the October 28, 2010 parliamentary by-election.

The Mpulungu parliamentary by-election follows the death of Lameck Chibombamilimo.

Apart from working as a popularity gauge for the main political parties the contest will be about numerical advantages in the 150-member National Assembly, currently dominated by the ruling party.
Ms Siliya said Mr Sata started showing lust for power when he served under Dr Chiluba but it was clear that Zambia deserved a better candidate to promote national economic development and unity.
She told the residents to reject the candidate the PF would adopt for the by-election and encouraged them to judge Government on the basis of its performance and not the lies being told by Mr Sata against President Rupiah Banda and the Government.
Dr Chiluba, alongside the national executive committee supported the candidature of late president Levy Mwanawasa when his second five-year tenure of office expired in 2001 which was the reason Mr Sata does not like the former president.

Ms Siliya, who is Education minister, said Dr Chiluba was a good president who promoted unity while Mr Sata did not like people from many parts of the country and had continued to demonstrate this by promoting politics of ethnicity.

She warned that the disunity being promoted by the opposition could lead to civil war as the leader continues to divide the nation on tribal lines.

She said the MMD Government would continue to work for the people despite the criticism by the opposition and the allied civil society organisations.

Ms Siliya said the people of Mpulungu had demanded that Mpulungu Harbour should be repossessed and the Government had done just that.
The harbour had the capacity to employ many people and feed the whole district if well managed and that Government would ensure that the people benefit from the investment.

Meanwhile, residents of Mpulungu have demanded that the MMD should adopt prominent Mpulungu business executive Given Mung’omba as the candidate for the ruling party.

Ms Siliya said part of her mission was to involve the residents in selecting the candidate to assess whether the constituency officials had picked the candidate the voters want.

Another applicant for the position is former MP Griever Sikasote who is Northern Province MMD chairperson.

  1. Ba Dora Sillier please do shut up and concentrate onur party. You seem to have a keen interest Sata always. We all know FTJ was a thief n he thought he would manipulate Levy but he was shocked!
MMD is not winning in Mpulungu, period!!

  2. Dora, stop your ethnicity tongue-lashing because RB is the worst homophobic President by comparison. You are MMD spokesperson because you are Nsenga from Petauke. Chembe Nyangu is acting Secretary General of the party because he is from Nyimba. M’khondo Lungu is at Home Affairs because he is from Lundazi.

So why throw stones when you leave in a glass house.

  3. To be honest enough Sata is the worste Zambia can ever have. The man is not of international standard to cry out louder. Even those who say they want change of leader, meaning pf leadership, I really wonder what you mean by that. Do you mean changing for the worste or better, because I do not expect anything good out of Sata’s leadership. The man’s behaviour in the past has shown a lot of bad things e.g the Kadobi scandle and this is the man you expect to change zambia Oh! God forbid. Zambia need better leaders.

  4. It can be believed, if SATA was handed the power – Chiluba would have not have been put on trial

Sata is very unpredictable, non-diplomatic and very dogmatic. He worked for KK and the Old Man (KK) once said that the best place for Sata is to run a Government Ministry. That said, he does have some strength that most Zambian Politicians do not have.

While I have never sided with Chiluba – I have to weigh in and agree that he (Chiluba) made a right decision not to hand the power to Sata.

  5. The way he is running PF is what would happen if he was in power. One cannot forget the Chawama & Kanyama – Machete Experience, which he has completely failed to apologise to the innocent people, walking in the streets of Zambia with big scares on their bodies.

    – A woman was bit up and ended having a miscarriage
    – A poor Security guard lost his eye
    – An 18-year-old girl was raped in the back of a pickup-car by his mafias

These cases were reported but the police did not follow up – We know why!!

  6. Sata & William Banda in MMD, are from the same school and have something in common and that is called – Radical Politics.

Conversely, if the people of Zambia think Sata is the right person to lead the nation then they should overwhelmingly vote for him

There is a saying that goes – What goes around always comes around. Sata will always walk in the wilderness until when he gets tired and gives up his political journey.

  7. Turning to the other chapter – The MMD should not take the people of Zambia for granted. Chiluba’s name is a BIG DEFICIT to the MMD.

This praise for Chiluba must be avoided at all cost. He may have championed multiparty democracy; his tenancy has brought a lot of sting to the development of the nation

Dora Siliya should be vigilant & wary on how she uses Chiluba’s legacy. Whatever good he may have done, if any, it has been swamped and empted by his misdeeds.

This is one big mistake the top leadership in MMD appear to over look. Chiluba is a BAD NUT in the mouth that spoils everything.

  8. Ministerless Dora Siliya, I would rather you convince Mr FJT Chiluba to tell the Nation why he did not support PF serpentine MC Sata to become MMD presidential candidate in 2001 elections instead of you going around speculation to the people of Zambia in Mpulungu.

As for “Ms Siliya, who is Education minister, said Dr Chiluba was a good president who promoted unity while Mr Sata did not like people from many parts of the country and had continued to demonstrate this by promoting politics of ethnicity… the disunity being promoted by the opposition [PF party leader MC Sata] could lead to civil war as the leader [serpentine SATA MC] continues to divide the nation on tribal lines,” this is a true message from Dora and I support her for this.

    Be blest all.

  9. Mistress Dora, what is Sata going to do at Mpulungu constituency? Talk about what your candidate will do or what the PF party won’t do. Let’s be more mature in the campaigns. Ed Milliband has shown us how big names fall also- so please give us a break and analyse issues more progressively!

  10. Zambian politics is never issue-based. Every day we hear those in government attacking personalities and shying away from real issues. Whether Sata is a factor or not will not feed the hungry. For too long now, leaders by default have hoodwinked our people without addressing the real problems. We just need these people to grow up and show some sense.

  11. I see that people are walking away from their Pact with tails between the legs.
What has happened is exactly what we told them and now they feel brainless, which again we told them.

  12. Everyone wants to go to heaven, but none of them wants to die!So many contenders for the Presidency in Zambia.
What baffles me is why we can not adopt the Federal system, have one head of state with state governors who have their own budgets to run and projects to empower their citizenry.
Zambia can not be effectivly ruled by one person as the tribal divisions are now very imminent.
Should there be a retirement age for Politicians?

  13. Bullshit, Bullushiti, Dora the whore now lecturing to us who is the better candidate. Well orgies she had with Kazala Luskyare still haunting HER. The MMD chased the late Lameck Chibombamilimo now they are busy cheating people that lameck was one of them.

The MMD have run out of ideas. I’m told DORA was sent to taste the Waters. Next it will be catherine namugala then an assesment will be done for George “Red Lips” Kunda then RB NyamaSOya himself to go and address or cheat people. Their plan shall backfire.

  14. Sometimes MMD, DORA, Mulongoti & Shikapwasha suprize me. The same FTJ supported Mr. Sata during 2006 elections over Levy. So how come Dora claims in 2001 SATA was not presidential Material according to her and Chiluba as she says??????
