We spent so much...Justice deputy minister Todd Chilembo explaining how much government paid foreign and local lawyers at the taskforce on corruption

The Zambia land alliance ZLA has charged that the perception created by government’s decision to remove the abuse of office clause from the anti corruption commission ACC act will leave a negative dent on the fight against corruption.

ZLA executive director, Henry Machina disclosed that the decision will soon have devastating effects on the already porous system of land allocation in the country.

Mr. Machina told QFM in an interview that there had already been serious allegations of theft and crookedness in the land allocation process in the country.

He said the removal of one of the most significant deterrents of such behaviors by those heading over public institutions and departments, will only worsen the situation.

Mr Machina added that it would lead to further inequity in land allocation too.

Mr. Machina said that government should have been discreet enough to ensure that the clause stays within the ACC act and that the removal of the clause is currently tantamount to having legalized corruption in this country.

Mr. Machina was Commenting on the government’s removal of the abuse of office offence from the revised ACC Act.

  1. It is only in Zambia were you can see an MP sweeping some offices after being convicted of stealing money from the government – i did not know as to whether i should laugh or feel sad after reading and seeing the MP for Ndola central doing the sweeping, i don’t think Law makers are serious in Zambia.

  2. Mr. Machina, your concern about the removal of corruption law is a concern justified by every correct thinking Zambian eccept President Rupiah Bwezani “Kanitundila” Banda who only thinks about protecting Titus Mpundu Chabala Kafupi alias Fredrick Chiluba from prosecution.

Banda changed the law to protect Titus for now and himself in the near future, period.

  3. When Shikafuswa said the MMD is trying to remove the abuse of office clause, Red Lips George Kunda jumped and threatened him with Treason. Now this has come to pass. Why Do we Zambians allow this foolish behaviour of unilateral changes of laws to suite the CORRUPT? We are all accomplices to this raping of Zambia. We have NOW institutionalized thefts.Zambia is a rare country in the world where citizens NEVER take action for the wrong done to the citizens by those in leadership.

Kafupi is all that matters as far as Bwezani is concerned.

  5. UMULANDU TAUBOLA. IT WILL JUST BE ONE DAY AND THE CORRUPT SHALL MEET THEIR WATERLOO. WHY HAVE THE ACC IN PLACE IF IT HAS NO ONE TO PROSECUTE. DISBAND THEM AND ASSIGN THEM OTHER DUTIES FOR NOW UNTIL ANOTHER GOVERNMENT WHICH HAS THE INTEREST OF ZAMBIANS AT HEART TAKES OVER.

  6. they might as well suspend the constitution until after elections…come on Rupiah…since ur trying hard to impose urself as life president..Super ken walked away with his head up by the way together with u lot …UNIP cadres!!! but somehow people got blind as usual out there and instead allowed all recycled politican to back disguised as MMD. We r now back to square 1 ..one party state..

  7. I feel your anger but this should be directed to the Oposition party leaders, who need to put there house in order, get the Pact working and root out these Bafoons from Office. Let’s all put pressure on the leaders in the Pact and get them resolve the remaing issues.

  8. That is why people get frustrated and ask donors to cut off funding. If there is a problem with the way the law is interpreted, then tighten it to be more fair. Getting rid of it is clearly intended to facilitate theft. One day there will be a revolution in Zambia as we had when the old man KK went wild (bless his heart now). This country has been plundered enough and now you have an accidental President trying to protect a thief like Chiluba, himself as well as past, present and future thieves.
