CBU workers to receive salaries

Share

Copperbelt University (CBU) Vice Chancellor Nason Ngoma has disclosed that University workers will start receiving their salaries today following the release of the funds by government last week.

In an interview in Kitwe today, Professor Ngoma said government released the money last week and all bank paper work has already been done for workers to start receiving their salaries.

Professor Ngoma said the workers know the process when government releases funding before they can finally start receiving their money.

“Going round holding press briefings and giving half-truths to the media is not good, you know when money is released from Ministry of Finance, it goes to the Ministry of Higher Education and part of that money goes to the Loans Board which in turn sends it to us, and then the bank processes are done, if all things being equal, those with the Zambia National Commercial Bank will begin receiving their money today,” Professor Ngoma explained.

The CBU Vice Chancellor also expressed disappointment over the workers’ decision to demand for December salaries when they have not worked this month.

Yesterday Unionized workers at the university suspended all academic activities as they demanded to be paid their November and December salaries before the end of this week.

And Higher Education Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame yesterday said she expected the issue of salaries to have been resolved by now as government released the money to the University last week.

And speaking in an interview, Professor Ngoma said he was disappointed with the workers that decided to hold media briefings on the matter without consulting management.

  1. Why is it that the Government of Zambia has been paying salaries late to the workers? No interest is paid on late payment of salaries. The government has been a bad example to companies and private employers for paying salaries late.

  2. The tenure of Naison Ngoma at CBU has been turbulent. The reason is that he has taken away the authority of Deans of Schools to decide on how to run their schools. Previously each Dean will decide how many students he’ll enroll and which requirements to put in place to run the programs. So members of staff at CBU know how much they make and they know that they can get their salaries on time even without Govt grants. So when they speak they don’t beat about the bush but unfortunately, as a retire Lt. Colonel Naison resorts to bullying whenever there’s any misunderstanding. It doesn’t work that way because CBU isn’t a barrack where you deal with chaps. Change your style of administration and you’ll a change. At the moment most workers just wait for your departure because they’va…

  3. Why is it that workers always have to resort to strikes or go slow to receive salaries? Meanwhile someone keeps on laughing saying there is nothing wrong in zambia.

  4. And some ministers like Chilufya don’t even look at their payslips as they steal alot…then sing to civil servants about not depending on salaries.

  5. CBU workers to receive salaries. Isn’t that what workers are supposed to have?
An employer that does not pay his employee in time is a thief. ‘The labourer deserves his wages’ so says the good book.

  6. @Bulaya Exactly my thoughts as the headline caught my eye. . Supposing someone reported that Lungu is to walk today wouldnt that be crazy? He walks everyday. Salaries are normal payments for any worker. When you report that people will get their salaries it means they dont. Zambia is really a crazy republic

  7. BREAKING NEWS: CBU employs will get paid!
In an unexpected turn of events the workers at one of the country’s public universities will get their salaries for November 2020. This will happen half way into the month of December 2020. It leaves to the imagination as to when the December 2020 salaries will be paid.
Meanwhile our reporter is yet to establish whether workers at 4 other public universities have also been paid and what plans the hardworking government of his Excellency and Commander in chief intends to normalize payment of salaries to employees of public institutions. The President of the country laughs to hear people complain that life is hard in a country which some of his ministers say has witnessed the highest rate of development ever recorded anywhere in the history of mankind…..kikikiki.
Some workers interviewed at CBU are so happy with this gesture that they will vote for the ruling party in 2020 and put to shame the leader of the largest opposition party so that he loses for the 6th time. They don’t want to see cattle in the clean streets of their cities, suburbs and self-built areas known as shanties. More news….
