Kamanga expresses concern over poor health services civil servants are receiving from NHIMA

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga has expressed concern over the poor health services that civil servants have been receiving from the National Health Insurance Management (NHIMA).

Mr Kamanga noted that his office had lately received concerns from civil servants on the mismanagement of NHIMA saying a lasting solution needs to be found for the statute body to improve on the service delivery.

“A follow-up on NHIMA’s poor service delivery will be made and feedback will be given in due course,“he said.

The Provincial Permanent Secretary highlighted this concern during the Provincial Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) 4th Quarter Report meeting which was held virtually.

One of the representatives narrated during the PDCC virtual meeting how he was unable to receive treatment for his child at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) because NHIMA does not leave any forms to fill in when they knock off.

“I took my child to the hospital, they refused to admit her saying they only admit one patient at a time under NHIMA at high cost and there was already a patient admitted” he said.

Some civil servants have also complained that despite contributing to NHMA every month they are subjected to buy medication when the Hospital gives them a prescription to buy in Chemist shops.

  2. NHIMA is the most disogarnised lot. They have no idea on how to run a medical scheme. The Unions were right when they rejcted it. Workers contribute to this useless scheme for poor services. In the meantime the boys and girls employeed at NHIMA continue getting their salaries…
For what??? Scrap this useless body . Just stealing from employees!

  3. NHIMA is a great sham, it is daylight robbery from the already impoverished Zambians. At Kalulushi General Hospital I was made to pay K2,000 for maternity services for my wife despite having a NHIMA scheme. They must just scrap it off or workers must voluntarily subscribe to it.

  4. I equally went to the hospital but I was equally sent back. I ended up finding my own solution to get treated. I wonder how they come up with pathetic solutions in Zambia. Nothing seems to work.

  5. NHIMA joins the list of scames which include NAPSA, Workers compensation. The original idea was excellent but as usual, implementation is a serious scan. Let govt constitution enquiry into operations of these institutions

  6. From the beginning this was just another fundraiser for government. Those who thought this scheme would really benefit them were too naive but have learnt the hard way.

  7. When they appear on tv they articulate very well but you go on the ground as if they know nothing about the schemel.
When i went to ronald ross i was told to do a procedure which was so cumbersome .We feel our money is being pocketed by certain individuals.Tbey should just stop deducting this money.

  8. I truly agree with you. I was attended to at Choma general hospital in a very poorly manner from 9am up to 15pm only to be told to buy some drugs in Chemists. To make the matter worse, I didn’t even know where to complain from. I think this scheme shouldn’t be managed by our public hospitals alone, let them partner with these private clinics for efficiency’s sake. We need services that meet value for our money
