Former Chief Justice Ernest Sakala has been appointed Acting Judge to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Namibia.

Namibian President Hage Geingob appointed Justice Sakala to act as a Supreme Court Judge for one year from January 1 to December 31 2021.

This is according to a notice issued by the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission of Namibia Uno Katjipuka, obtained by ZANIS this evening.

Justice Sakala is among three non-resident acting judges along with retired Justice Moses Chinhengo of Zimbabwe and retired Justice Jeremiah Shongwe of South Africa.

Justice Sakala , who has over 35 years of experience in the Judiciary, is primarily expected to “hear the intricate high treason appeal now pending in the Namibian Supreme Court.

Ms Katjipuka stated that other appeals may also be assigned to Justice Sakala and his fellow two non-resident acting judges from Zimbabwe and South Africa.

According to the Judicial Service Commission, the appointments are made to enable the Supreme Court of Namibia to deal expeditiously with its work.

Justice Sakala served as Zambia’s Chief Justice from 2003 to 2011, where Mrs Lombe ChibesaKunda acted from 2012 to 2015 until President Lungu appointed Justice Irene Mambilima.

Justice Sakala has also served on the COMESA Court of Justice during his tenure as Chief Justice.

He joins a list of privileged Zambian judges among them former Chief Justice Annel Silungwe who have served in the Namibian justice system.

    • Is the report to the President of the two murder cases of innocent citizens coming from the Police themselves? And the offence of the cadre is giving solidarity to his leader?

  2. Congratulations to you Justice Enest Sakala and that’s why Namibia is developing at fast late they don’t follow on nationality or tribe like in Zambia. They do fellow what USA does but here in Zambia pointing a foreigner in any position in government it can be world war 3 of social media and where quality is lacking quantity corrupt cadres can’t fit in. God help us

  3. Current judges take a leaf. Dont do wrong things in a bid to protect your jobs. You can still find them even beyond boarders. Dont let anyone destroy your hard earned reputation.

  4. The pain goes straight to the hearts of the learned Namibian judges and lawyers .
Zambians are good at saying congratulations
Imargine if it was here the president appoints a Namibian to be chief justice
The insults , hey what bla bla
We are still colonised bla bla
It’s an insult to the judiciary bla bla
    Icalo Ici.
Sorry Namibia we have sent you abanyoli nyoli to preside over your cases .

  5. It’s not in question that Justice Ernst Sakala is a brilliant lawyer. Politics have destroyed many people in Zambia, if we can change our governance system many Zambians would be dominant in many spheres of life in the region. I had expected Justice David Lewanika to succeed Justice Matthews Ngulube but it didn’t happen because LPM had his own opinion. There’s still many pending judgements to be written that he left unattended for many years. I hope he’ll do well and leave an indelible mark in Namibia as they’ll be no political interference

  6. Am sure the current President of Namibia has some issues with their judicial system so am sure he is looking someone like this man to defend him because he is the master ??? What a shame

  7. Who killed Joseph Kaunda two days ago. So in Zambia the offence of escorting an opposition leader is now death. Even if it is deemed illegal, people should be shot dead as a punishment, and the report must come from the Police themselves who are the assailants? I will talk about the Ernest Sakala appointment later, I just wanted to start with a more important issue of the murder case of innocent citizens

  8. Congratulations your honour – your own nation has not found a role you can offer based on your impeccable character.
However, currently we are mourning the loss of two innocent Zambians killed by Zambia police force at the orders of Kampyongo, Kanganja and ultimately president Lungu. Hoodwinking Zambians and trivializing the killing of Nsama Nsama and Kaunda will not work. PF regime has killed many innocent Zambians, So we are mourning the death of these two Zambians still in the morgue – our hearts are with their families.
