ZRST deeply saddened by severe loss of life in bus horror crash which has claimed the lives of 5 people

Share

The Nation’s leading road safety NGO, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST), is deeply saddened by the loss of five innocent lives this morning in the bus accident.

According to the Police, five people died in a road traffic accident that happened in Kabwe this morning involving a Nakonde-bound Likili Motorways Bus which was coming from Lusaka. Another 13 people from the same bus sustained serious injuries while 42 sustained minor injuries.

In the meantime, the ZRST extends sincere condolences to the families who have lost loved ones today. We pray that they will find the strength to get through this extremely difficult time. We also extend our sympathies to those who have family members that were injured in the accident.

ZRST calls upon the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) and the Police for a thorough investigation into the cause of this accident and a full evaluation is made of this stretch of road, which has already claimed far too many lives.

In order to reduce the high number of fatalities, RTSA and other agencies like RDA need to ensure that our roads are properly maintained and that visible law enforcement takes place.

  1. Please let us take extra care on the roads during the festive season. For me I have asked my wlfe to hide the keys to my range over and other cars so that I am not tempted to drive as I am consuming alcohol during this festive period.

  5. Bus drivers and most drivers if not all in Zambia leave much to be desired. One even wonders how they are certified. Can’t there be a drivers licencing body in Zambia?

  6. Many Zambians have lost lives through passenger bus horror crashes that have continued for many years without any solution. Government has run out of ideas to safeguard the lives of the travelling public. Zambia Road Traffic System is dysfunctional, un able to cope with rampant bus companies whose owners simply bribe their way to continue operating arrogantly, even to bear responsibility of these deaths is un heard of. All is needed is to change the entire Zambians way of governance and national management of the country. Change is coming by Zambians.

Lets us not hide in Festive Season. No one is in the mood of Hyping.

The Roads are not safe. They are no longer level. They are not maintained. They are overused.

IN SPITE OF TOLL GATE FEES COLLECTED.

Is the crew sober? Do they take pride in their jobs? The drivers do not observe rules. They speed and unnecessarily overtake on bumpy and bendy sections.

Are the buses roadworth in every sense of the word?.

    IN SPITE FITNESS TESTS.

do we need more people to be killed or maimed through bus accidents in Zambia, do we?

  9. I think the suspension of these buses are very high, they don’t balance very well with our road systems and probably these buses are legit and may be very cheap from where they buy them. One example is the military vehicle Ifa trucks, do you remember them, that were bought from Romania they were dropping like ripe mulberries. So here, Maybe it as to do with the condition of the buses or driver’s credibility to drive these buses. the question needs to be asked is? Do these drivers have a proper driving license to drive these heavy-duty vehicles, and how much experience do they have etc., By the way, my condolences to all those families and friends how lost they loved ones and those how sustain injuries and others bless!!!

  10. At times we also can’t blame the drivers, yes maybe they are at fault but have relevant authorities evaluated our roads ? Sudden pot holes, unfit vehicles, intoxicated drivers, uneducated and careless cyclist and pedestrians etc instead of victimising us for not having fire extinguishers, and jumped the orange light , or the tiny crack on my windscreen. Fix your cracked councilmen and policemen. How many more lives should we lose to realise we have a problem ? When will mini busses stop breaking laws?
