A combined team of veterinary officers and Zambia Police in Luampa District has intercepted and slaughtered six herds of cattle smuggled from Mongu enrooted to Nkayema district in Western Province.

ZANIS reports that Luampa District Commissioner Winnie Kamayoyo confirmed today that six herds of cattle moving from Mongu district to Nkeyema through Luampa District were impounded by alert Veterinary Officers at Mwandasengo area in Luampa.

And Acting District Veterinary Officer Simwanza Suwilanji said the ban for the movement and slaughter of livestock in Western Province was still in effect as a control measure to the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

He said the impounded animals have been sloughed and disposed-off in accordance with sections 6 (1) (a) (b) and 33 of the Animal Health Act No. 27 of 2010.

Mr Simwanza cautioned livestock farmers in the district to desist from such illegal activities as it will cost their animals.

He further warned that the disease is of national importance and the government is spending a lot of money on the fight against FMD.

He has since appealed to stakeholders to partner with government in sensitizing livestock farmers on the dangers of illegal stock movement.

The animals belonged to a teacher identified as Maxwell Nalumago of Mongu District.

  2. Well done. We appreciate your quick response. Tarino the problem with tribal failures like you is that you criticize everything including your own faeces. Any sane person who has attained a level of primary education would know that the picture is only for illustration purposes and does not reflect the event being discussed. Some of you are very dull. You are wasting away in diaspora.

  3. These cadres will feast on this meat.

Don’t be surprised tomorrow if PF start donating meat during election campaigns. They usually give people tu pamela and 2kg kapenta. Now they will add 1kg of beef.

    Imisango ishabola fi PF.

  4. What do you expect from a government that kills its own citizens, lawlessness becomes rampant with falsehood and high levels of un employments for the youths.

  5. I am not familiar with these things, but, is there a feasible way of doing this in such a way that intercepted animals are tested, those found to be un-infected spared and productively utilised or distributed by the state, and those found to be contaminated disposed of accordingly? It would just appear like a waste of good food, for a very understandable reason of course.

Impulse reaction again with no reason whatsoever.
First of all any living cow can be tested if it is infected for the F&M disease. Were all the cattle slaughtered infected? The smuggling crime should be separate from the slaughtering of the cattle. They should compensate the owner for killing his cattle indiscriminately.
The reasonable reaction was to return his cattle to him and charge him separately for smuggling. It’s not like he owns the cattle illegally. This isn’t poaching crime or illegal fishing.
Also even after slaughtering, you can test the meat and destroy the infected and sell or give to people the good meat. In Zambia we lack logical thinking at every level, not sure why.

Also fake, imposter Kaizar Zulu from the UK… please get off Tarino’s back with your unbridled hatred for the him/her. I have been following your beef (no pun intended on this article) with Tarino and I find Tarino more reasonable than you who seem to think anyone who has a different view from your PF mindset is a Diaspora who is an opposition sympathizer. You can’t comprehend the fact some people have independent minds to think.
Tarino is right why would you put up a picture of a different setup and event like that without providing context to your readers.
And please stop your insecurities of masquerading as Kaizar Zulu just to make your ego feel good… that is just sick.

  8. These barbarians murder fvckers never rest from killings. They just killed in Lusaka, to extent of throwing away some commissioners. Before even a new moon, they are out killings, this time their fellow animals.
And some of those animals are just teenagers.

  9. It takes a number of years to raise cattle, and most Zambians live in poverty, and we do not have enough food to feed street kids and orphans, The cattle could be given out or if cattle were found with diseases the government would treat the animals, thereafter could be killed and meat given to orphanages, prisons, government schools and hospitals etc. The kind of thinking is poor by following old English rules. It doesn’t make sense to destroy the animals if they can be cured and we do not have enough food. Time to think out of box by MPs who make and change laws. Smuggling of animals is a order of day in Zambia.

  10. What country do we live in kanshi? The vertinary people you can call them to come & attend to your cattle, they will never come. The police you call when there is a crime, they will tell you that they have no transport. But to slaughter poor people’s animals, they are quick.
How come govt has no serious programs to curb these diseases? All the govt does in BAN MOVEMENT OF ANIMALS. And once they BAN today it lasts for years. Most provinces have been BANNED FOR OVER 5 YEARS.
And people’s livelihoods depend on farming. And this govt gives lip service that zambians must TAKE FARMING SERIOUS. Zambians have no choice but to survive on agriculture, like cattle farming & govt is a hindrance. What a govt
