The Lubambe Mine Extension is such good news to be ignored-President Lungu

Share

Zambian President Edgar Lungu has assured Lubambe Copper Mine of Government support to expedite the Lubambe Extension Project.

The President says the Lubambe Extension is “too much good news to be ignored”. The Head of State who visited the Chililabombwe based mining firm yesterday has directed State House Minister, Honourable Freedom Sikazwe and other Technocrats in his office to ensure that Lubambe gets all the support and necessary approvals required to ensure that the Extension project takes off.

The President requested Lubambe Director Operations Tony Davis to provide details of the help that Lubambe required so that all pending processes could be expedited.

The President has however, emphasised that all processes required for the project to take off, must be followed to the letter to ensure that the project is executed appropriately.

“You have my support on this project, but I wish to emphasise that all processes and requirements must be fulfilled so that everything is done according to book and within legal requirements and provisions”, the President said.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa, other Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and local Government Leaders in Chililabombwe.

And Lubambe Director Operations Tony Davis thanked the President for visiting Lubambe and for pledging support to the Extension Project. Mr. Davis said Lubambe will do its part to provide all required detail and information on the Extension Project. The President was taken on a brief surface tour of the Mine by Tony Davis and later had an opportunity to address Lubambe staff.

While at the mine, the President urged Lubambe employees and the Labour Unions at the Mine to increase production. “I want to tell you that nothing succeeds like hardwork. We all need to work hard and sustain production so that no job is lost. Produce more and demand more.”

The President also thanked Mine management for being one of the outstanding Mines in Zambia in terms of safety and discipline, despite the tragedy that happened in November last year that claimed 1 life, Lubambe has generally had a good safety record, he said.

Speaking at the staff address, Director Operations Tony Davis informed the President and staff that the future of Lubambe lay in the Extension Project Located 6km South of the existing Mine.

In July last year, the Mine completed an Advanced Concept Study that confirmed the potential of the Lubambe Extension Project at 247 Mt @ 3.64% total copper. It is without doubt one of the largest and highest-grade undeveloped copper resources in the world.

Mr. Davis also revealed that the Mine has increased production by 70 per cent from 1 million tonnes of Copper Ore in 2017 to 1.7 million tonnes of Copper ore in 2020.

  2. How does the whole President start ordering his minister in his office to make sure that individual businesses are looked after …what message is this clown sending out…this why we have institutions in the country? He has left Lusaka to go around doing ministers jobs and politicking instead of sorting the economy. Its like Bowman who is now out and about telling people to mask up with cameras following him.

  3. “LUSAKA, Oct 2 (Reuters) – Lubambe Copper Mine, majority-owned by Australia’s EMR Capital IPO-EMR.AX, is talking to the Zambian government to seek concessions, including a tax break, to develop a new $1 billion copper mine, the company said on Friday.”

So what is La7y Lungu saying when he says lets expedite this ….is he going to give the concessions just like that…this is the man who was reading a speech about empowering Zambians but here he is directing his office to handle this to favour this Oz firm when Mines Ministry and ZRA are looking into it.

    • Lungu perpetuates African mental slavery. Why cant he pursue the Zambianisation of our mines with the same zeal he is displaying here? Why doesn’t he order his ministers to urgently, very urgently, empower blacks in Zambia so that they can start benefitting from the minerals that colonialist settlers are looting?

  4. Gayrino above asks how “How does the whole President start ordering his minister in his office to make sure that individual businesses are looked after …”

This is the same dunderhead who expected the president to get involved in a condom scandal yet he thinks the president shouldn’t lower himself with such developmental projects. You can’t win with these upnd clowns

  5. LUSAKA, 12 Dec (Reuters)

” Zambian president commissioned the $15 million solar equipment manufacturing plant , emphasising the country will be self sufficient in solar products while exporting to neighbouring countries , the plant will employ 500 staff and use Zambian copper ….this was on the back of the president ordering all GRZ uniforms to be manufactured in Zambia ….”

Wet dreams ……Lungu can only order digging of minerals to be exported in raw form , he can’t do anything else……

  7. @Tarino Orange, duties of the president do include soliciting more investment into the country which will bring in investors like the Aussies you spoke about.

  8. Lisa Liywali – So longer as you depend on foreigners to give you labourer jobs you never develop…look at Indians they are invested in skilled jobs and skilled training at university levels. You are still crying for digging jobs when the foreigner is getting the bigger slice of the cake…what did you create IDC for? Do you know what concessions are that this company is after…why has it not got them? That’s because our own technocrats no that we will not get a good deal.

  9. This company wants concessions …do you not what that is? There is nothing to solicit here…use you heads for a change. You form a company let’s see if you will get concessions from State House or have a platform.

  10. We already have depts to did with this – mining is not easy there is a lot of paperwork involved…why should smiling Lungu minister Freedom Sikazwe personally handle this issue ….this is how corruption and abuse of office begins. La7y Lungu is a lawyer but not a very smart one….all these companies know its election year and just say jobs these politicans will process licenses within 24 hours like they did with HoneyBee’s pharmaceutical licence application.

  13. How do you have these so called “intelligentia”post so many blogs from one person and on one issue. These desktop or is it cellphone bloggers are boring and simply polluting the debates which otherwise would help some people. We need debate but certainly not from one individual.

  14. This President blocks HH from going to the Copperbelt because he is on the Copperbelt , where on earth mwebanthu, and next he is in church praying with the seventh day, with a straight face sure, unbelievable. October 18th national day of prayer and reconciliation must be revoked, really unbelievable

  15. The most incompetent and useless president anywhere on earth. Completely clueless! When is he leaving office? Or better, when will Zambians vote him out? He should have been, more than yesterday!,b/b>

  16. This copper mining could have done more to employ Zambians if they have considered value addition, just sending copper away will not see the nation develop because there has never been a nation that developed by sending away raw materials , it doesn’t just work, the same copper has gold in it and many more by products which these investors take freely .
From copper you can produce more money spinning by products not only copper cables but a lot more

  17. The president have forgotten the people of chambishi,he don’t even talk about chambishi metals people are suffering in that town
