Ghana Introduces Pure African Print School Uniforms

Share

Ghana has taken a bold step in its push to further decolonise by introducing their own pure African school uniforms.

According to a commentator, most countries use post colonial uniforms in Africa and it’s high time they emulate and consider the African print uniforms.

In April 2019, some Ghanaian parents across the sixteen regions of Ghana had expressed dissatisfaction over the introduction of the new school uniforms by the Ghana education service.

Ghanaian’s have been able to go above and beyond in restoring African pride in the traditions left behind by our colonizers. Uniforms can be dated as far back as 1522, in the United Kingdom. It was mainly adorned by poor children, or those without parents and needed charity. The classic type of uniform has morphed through the ages, yet none has the unique and befitting African radiance Ghanaian school uniforms bring to the table!

  1. HOW BEAUTIFUL.
Can Zambia be the next. It takes one step to decolonise our minds. Africa is the only continent which was deeply colonised with political independence. However, with no economic, mind, industrial and military, cultural, lingual, etc independence.
Let us take bold steps to start decolonising ourselves completely.
    CONGRATULATIONS GHANA.

  2. Great pan Africanist gesture. This is is what we need as a continent. Ghana is leading by example. Why should we copy the white man’s way of life. We need to teach our children from a young age to know who they are and their culture. We know the evil upnd diasporans will be against this because they have no option but to follow the lifestyle of their masters.

  3. This is impressive. The time has come for Africa to take off the shackles of mental slavery and go back to the roots of their tradition and culture. We don’t have to shun everything western but we can confidently embrace and uphold our style. The next thing we want to see is our judiciary getting rid of those ridiculous colonial wigs and replace them with an authentic traditional African head gear.

  6. @Kaizar, yes I did. In fact Chitenge was the first gift my wife got from my sisters when she first visited Zambia. She still loves it, especially in summer when it gets hot.

  7. Whn u’re really independent, u don’t bother to look over your shoulder to talk about colonialism and colonial uniforms. U just get on with it. But nothing will change the fact that Ghana is a post-colonial state which was once a possession of Denmark but was later sold to the British. That’s how arrogant Europeans used 2b. But it’s a waste of time referring to colonialism whn u’re making policy changes. U just act, after all nothing’s forever.

  8. This move does not only cartel the financial bleeding of the much needed foreign exchange by importing strange foreign materials for school uniforms but also is an important decolonisation of the minds of this perpertually colonised continent. Thank you Ghana, these are small lips in the right direction to freeing our children mentally.

  9. Fantastic Ghana..and goodshow. How i wish Zambia could be next.It is too much these colonial masters brain washed our minds on many things.Let us slowly but surely restore our African dignity.

  10. I do not see anything African about those School Uniforms especially if you are referring to 1522. Africans in 1522 were either naked or in animal skin. Anything made out of cotton in not African. African history has been erased thanks to our forefathers that sold their own nephews for slaves. The best we can do is adapt and move on. The next we will hear is that Ghana has stated making African Computers.

“…We know the evil upnd diasporans will be against this because they have no option but to follow the lifestyle of their masters….”

Noooò badala….., we don’t just clap for nothing without analysing like you , du.ll pompwe…….

All chitenges in zambia come from China

Ghana makes Chitenges locally…….they a very vibrant African cloth industry.
It is a win win for them.

Tell lungu to open mulungushi textiles….

  13. That’s Nine Chale for you forever pretending to be a strong Pan Africanist and anti- imperialism but standing next to him is his muzungu German madam….really laughable

  14. akapS- And its not a joke where did he buy 9000 bicycles? Mulungushi Textiles is rotting yet he is giving $60 million defence uniform contracts to his foreign friends that’s millions of dollars leaving the country. Even this wont work as textile indudtry is gone ..look where PF is getting its religia …China same way MMD did 15 years ago.

  15. Take it easy ! How about their Lawyers ? They’re still putting on those dead man’s hair in their heads. Those chaps are not willing to drop their so called status symbol!

  16. Is there a rule that says a pan African cannot marry a whlte woman? Tarino you are one of the most ignorant f00ls I have ever come across, and believe you me i have met millions of people. Who says you cannot support African unity and because your wlfe has a different race? Promoting unity among african countries both economically and socially has no bearing on the skin colour of your partner. In fact nine chales wlfe is more welcome to Zambia than you. In fact she stands a higher chance of getting citizenship based on marriage than you a f00lish asylum seeker who willingly gave it up. You have an issue with nine chale wlfe being whlte and yet you ran away to a whlte ruled country. You are a dull f00l

  17. Hi fellow bloggers, I am thinking of writing my auto biography and I would like to get your input. Please comment below what you think about me or the fond memory you have of me.

For example think of the amazing things that remind you of me. For example like when I saved a man’s life who was drowning in the kafue river after one of my boat parties. Or when I won the award for most handsome pupil during my secondary school

    Thanking you in advance.

Please no negative insults. Be mature. I have no time for haters

  18. Had the idea of using African print cloth for school uniforms landed earlier in the policy makers arena, probably Mulungushi and Kafue Textiles would still have been providing employment to a section of the Kabwe and Kafue towns population and emergence of small scale factories also Serioes in Luanshya exporting Zambian clothing!

  19. Those new uniforms look very nice , very similar to the ones the kids in the south Pacific wear but at the end of the day they are not african design, we Africans used Chitenges and animal skins before the Whiteman came. Today Zambian adults wear suits and long pants or jeans and t-shirts because that is the world trend today. Oh by the way are these new school uniforms going to be made for Zambia in India like our current Chitenges or China where every other piece of clothing comes from.

  20. Interesting facts according to the Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare, these pieces of cloth which are used by women all over sub-Saharan Africa originated from Indonesia. (so much for African traditional dress)
Kitenge or chitenge is an East African, West African and Central African fabric similar to sarong, often worn by women and wrapped around the chest or waist
In Malawi, Namibia and Zambia, kitenge is known as Chitenge. They are sometimes worn by men around the waist in hot weather. In some countries like Malawi, Chitenges never used to be worn by men until recently when the president encouraged civil servants to buy Malawian products by wearing Chitenge on Fridays.
Kitenges (plural vitenge in Swahili; zitenge in Tonga) serve as an inexpensive, informal piece of clothing that is…

Kitenges (plural vitenge in Swahili; zitenge in Tonga) serve as an inexpensive, informal piece of clothing that is often decorated with a huge variety of colours, patterns and even political slogans.
