Health PS rebukes Shangombo DC

Share

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba has taken Shangombo District Commissioner (DC) to task for allowing Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to use the unfinished infrastructure meant for a health centre as a storage shade.

Dr. Mwaba said much as he appreciate the role of FRA, they should not disturb construction works at the site.

The Permanent Secretary is in Shangombo to see progress on the district hospital which is being constructed.

The PS and his team also inspected ten staff houses and nurse’s hostels and an abandoned administration block.

Commenting on the administration block, the PS directed the DC to terminate the contract of the contractor for the block and find possible means to make him pay back the K30 million down payment.

The contractor is said to have disappeared with the money after doing a slab.

However Shangombo DC Masheke Kabayo commended FRA for purchasing all the maize in his district.

Mr. Kabayo said farmers in the area who supplied maize to FRA have since been paid.

He said that FRA had released about K1.3 billion to pay farmers.

He said farmers are happy and encouraged to work even harder to produce another bumper harvest in the starting season.

Mr. Kabayo however urged FRA to quickly transport the commodity before the onset of rains to avoid the maize going to waste.

The maize is currently stored in one of the unfinished buildings at the newly constructed Shangombo District Hospital.

  1. I also endorse the DC.Food is paramount.Thats why he does not seem to regret his action cos it was a win-win stuation.

  2. I also agree with DC Kabayo afterall the building has been abandoned. There are no works going on at the hospital, so why not use it for other important national activities such as maize storage. The PS Mwaba was off side unless if the DC had stopped works which was not the case. And how does the DC terminate a contract. Was this contract not signed between the Ministry of Health and the Contractor. The onus is on the Ministry to terminate and recover any money. The best the can do is termination. I doudt if any recoveries can be made otherwise it will be at great cost.

  3. WHITE ELEPHANTS ARE NOT ONLY IN LUSAKA BUT COUNTRY OVER. VIVA DC. DEVELOPMENT IN BUILDINGS WITHOUT EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL TO RUN THEM WILL NOT TAKE THIS COUNTRY ANYWHERE. CHAWAMA ‘IMPROVED’ HOSPITAL IS STILL LIMPING. KANYAMA, CHIPATA, MATERO REFERENCE AND CHILENJE CLINICS ARE YET TO BE LAUNCHED AS DISTRICT HOSPITALS BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE EQUIPMENT AND HUMAN RESOURCES TO START OPERATING. WHERE ARE OUR PRIORITIES? WHAT ABOUT MOBILE HOSPITALS, WHERE ARE THEY?

  4. Dr Peter Mwaba is man of action and topnotch consultant. He will transform the ministry of health bcos everthing he touches turns to gold

  5. #5. I agree with you. He is a quality individual medicine wise. At his age we actually need him more in the wards attending to patients who sent him to school as opposed to him and others such as Kamoto Mbewe pushing around files at MOH. I just hope he and his colleagues in now in administration do find time to be at public hospitals and NOT just Private ones attending to us. Peter makes people from Mpatamato in Luanshya proud. Abena POTTIES.

  6. Agree with first sentence for #5,not sure about 2nd sentence lady gaga especially if Kapokos are still in abundance at MOH.Spot on #6…. and well done DC.We will all escort you to court to defend you if and when someone thinks of charging you for abuse of office or any other offence for that matter.#1-4,very well said.Progress pa Zed.Since all the comments so far are progressive on this thread,I HEREBY BAN ALL NON PROGRESSIVE COMMENTS ON THIS THRED- BY POWERS RESTED IN MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
