Zambia- Brazil confer over fertilizer partnership

Share

Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Fertilizer Company Agronelli has held talks aimed at commencing the fertilizer partnership between Zambia and Brazil.

Speaking when she addressed stakeholders during a virtual meeting, Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil Alfreda Mwamba called on Agronelli to consider possibilities of partnering with the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) through technology advancement and production of phosphate fertilizer.

Ambassador Mwamba said that Agronelli’s fertilizer would enable Zambia to produce the drought- resistant bumper harvest as well as benefit the small scale and commercial farmers in the country.

“Once the centre is set up in Zambia, exports could be made within the region and economic benefits will be attained in line with the National Agricultural Policy,” she noted.

Dr. Mwamba added that the partnership will further contribute to the increase and availability of inputs on the market as well as boost crop production and diversification.

She reiterated that the phosphate fertilizer from Brazil will enhance government’s efforts of sustaining the country’s food basket.

And Agronelli Company Director Renato Costa notified the stakeholders that the Brazilian fertilizer company is ready to send a one-ton foot container of fertilizer to Zambia as a pilot project to ascertain its results on the Zambian soil.

Mr. Costa said his company is ready to do business with Zambia because of the country’s vibrant Agro vision.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Principal Agricultural Economist, Peter Zulu advised Agronelli to send the sample of the fertilizer to Zambia for evaluation before importation.

Mr. Zulu assured the Brazilian company that Zambia is open to meaningful investment in order to develop the Agricultural sector.

Other Stakeholders that participated in the meeting include the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Zambia Agricultural Research Institute and the Zambia Development Agency.

This is contained in a statement issued to the media in yesterday by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Brazil, Grace Makowane.

  1. Why saddens me about our diplomacy in Latin America is the failure to discuss the plight of people of African descent in countries such as Brazil. I don’t know wht the point of African diplomacy is.

  2. Nemwine there is a lot of undeveloped land in Africa. What is stopping those so called Africans from coming back home so I employ them? All ethnic Brazilians are Africans origin. So what are you talking about? Just appreciate this partnership with a great country

By the way, I have a problem with people who just conclude things without evidence. Just because I said I will always love my wlfe regina, on my faycebook, some ugly bab00ns from upnd are claiming I cheated. Some of us love our wlves and show it to the world. You lack romance in your sad sexless lives. Fuseke

  4. This partnership is indeed a good thing for both countries. Zambia can learn from Brazil abou a successful state-directed economic model. The government does’nt have to dominate everything but it can play a directive role and create a condusive investment climate for both the national industries and the free market/private sector.

  5. Nemwine – Because they are a racist bunch…black lives have been there for centuries even before the Spanish colonisers came with their religion, diseases and sins …the Europeans even brought white people to fade out black people. Just look at their adverts …you would be surprised if even black people exist in Brazil.
Just ignore the UK based troll – dont feed it..its crazing for a breakfast fix!!

  6. Alfreda Mwamba please stop wasting these Brazilians time…we all know that the Zambian Fertiliser procurement is one of the most corrupt schemes for the ruling party of the day. Even if these Brazilians offered fertiliser at 30% cheaper for 5 years your corrupt govt would never take it.
These ambassadors always take turns crazing for attention first its starts from that moron Mwamba in Ethiopia, then the bootlicker in Germany to that dull lady in India then this Alfreda Mwamba making pointless noises in Brazil.

  7. This is very painful, Zambia was once a fertilizer sufficient country but every effort being made is towards being 100% dependent on imports. This will slow down progress. We still have Zambians that can produce urea and compound D using the same old infrastructure at Kafue. I shocked in 2019 when I visited NCZ only to be told that they were producing fertilizer for a local dealer that had been awarded a tender to supply to MoA! This scum began with LPM because he limited fertilizer supply to a few dealers. It’s very shameful that RB, MCS & ECL couldn’t reverse this bad decision. Is the fertilizer Mafia so big? If Elfreda Mwamba Kansembe has nothing to do let her come back the re-contest her Malole seat or she should keep quiet. Katembo is another lost chap

  8. Ayatollah – The whole system is so corrupt its shocking…its a scam…there is no political will to see Zambia benefit I said this in my previous comment awaiting moderation.

  9. NCZ needs hundreds of millions of $$$ investment in order to be able to produce any quantity of fertilizer. The Chinese ran away when they saw the plant. So now it’s the Brazilians to come and have a look? With Bolsonairo as president, Brazil is worse than China and North Korea combined! No thanks.

  10. No Corruption Zambia – NCZ can never be revamped to full capacity the same reasons why Zambia Railways can never be revamped …answer is simple; GREED OF THE ELITE. Fertiliser importation, procurement and Road Haulage are among the most profitable businesses for these people …they would rather we spend four times as much than make it in Chilanga.
