NCC hasn’t produced desired results despite spending – TIZ

Share

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has charged that it is not surprising to note that the National Constitution Commission (NCC) did not produce the desired results despite huge amount of money used in the exercise.

TIZ president Rueben Lifuka said it was obvious that the country would not hold the 2011 general elections under the new constitution because core issues were abandoned in the constitution making process.

Mr. Lifuka noted that this is a reflection that government does not have any political will in the referendum.

He added that this should be a lesson enough for Zambians to realize government’s irregularities.

Mr. Lifuka said the 2011 elections would not be any different from the previous elections that were hampered by election petitions.

  1. Over K135 billion down the drain. Looks like we’re headed for another sham presidential election. I am sure the usual LT MMD propaganda doyens will be all over this like a cheap suit to put their usual nauseating spin on it.

  2. This kind of spending should be treated as a crime. The NCC was just away of stealing our money. That money should have been used on other essentials things if the govt did not want a new constitution. Shame on our politicians. We are running our country liked stone age people, maybe them were even better.

  3. Bane, no sitting Government is going to enact the 51% +1 threshold clause. MMD in 1990 complained about alot of Constitutional flaws but after spending 10 years in Government we still have the same flaws. So we better learn to use the opposition before they get into government. So those of your brothers amd sisters in Zambia please work hard to increase the opposition numbers in Parliament.
