President Lungu urges Zambians to learn from F.J.T Chiluba

Share

President Edgar Lungu has encouraged Zambians to emulate the life of the late second president Fredrick Chiluba who worked towards making Zambia a prosperous country.

President Lungu said as the country remembers and celebrates the life of the late Dr. Chiluba, there is need to emulate him for a Zambia that has equal opportunities for everyone and a country that is peaceful and united in diversity.

The Head of State said this in a speech read on his behalf by Vice President Inonge Wina during the tenth-anniversary memorial service in honour of the late president Chiluba at Embassy Park in Lusaka today.

He has since urged the younger generation to learn lessons from the hard work and commitment that the late Dr. Chiluba dedicated to the service of the country.

President Lungu said the nation will continue to honour the legacy of Dr. Chiluba, who was a charismatic former trade unionist and inspirational political champion of the land.

“As a nation, we shall forever remain eternally grateful for his contribution to the nation,” he said.

The Head of State added that the late Dr. Chiluba firmly believed that embracing Christian values was vital in national development.

He added that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation paved the way for the participation of many faith-based organisations in the country.

President Lungu explained that to date, Zambia prides itself as being the first amongst equals in pioneering the policy of inclusiveness in religious practice.

The late Dr. Chiluba was born on April 30, 1943 and died on June 18th, 2011.

He ruled Zambia for ten years from 1991, when his Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) won the general election by 83 percent, to 2001.

He took over power for United National Independence Party’s (UNIP) Kenneth Kaunda, who had ruled Zambia for 27 years.

  3. How someone decides to use their money is a personal matter. Todate the British Courts have failed to provide proof that FJT stole money from Zambians. Except to charge him with a case of fiduciary negligence. Money has trail and its the easiest wrong to catch. Did he benefit from his position as president yes and which president across the world doesn’t? Name any USA president or UK Prime Minister who indirectly has never benefited from holding those offices. We are told of big investments some former US presidents have after serving as presidents. Its in Africa we vilify our own people. Was there theft of national resources during FJT’s rule? Yes of course but the biggest of it by civil servants who have still do that except it has been curtailed a bit under PF. How many of people we…

  5. The “4ft dwarf” was a small man but big pompwe! His decade in office was notable for high-profile corruption and scandals. Zambian anti-corruption investigators seized 100 pairs of shoes, 300 shirts and 150 suits belonging to former President FTJ

  6. Chiluba fought so hard to steal a Third Term but Zambians rejected the idea and he relented. ECL has refused to listen and has forced Concourt to grant him a Third Term. ECL thinks he is Cleverer than Chiluba and he will steal a Third Term at all costs. Zambians are not stupid and will teach him a lesson he will never forget. On August 12 Voters will show Lungu that they have the Power and Final say to reject his Third Term Steal. A vote against Lungu is a vote of no Confidence in Zambia Concourt. The best way to stop Lungu’s Third Term Steal is to vote overwhelmingly for HH and UPND Alliance on August 12. Zambians must vote as if their lives depends on the vote. That vote unlike 2016 must be protected at all costs. All voters must ensure that their Vote Counts this time around…

  7. How many of people do we know and some are on this forum who work as civil servants and have properties and vehicles that their salaries can not buy even if they got a loan from the bank. To me civil servants are the ones who have stolen from Zambians than any politician. They use trips, conferences, they are both suppliers and buyers for their departments with inflated prices, the list goes on. Coming back to the western world, they keep monies stolen from Africa in Swiss banks, why do they refuse Africans with political relations from depositing money their. UK held on to Nigeria’s money Abacha deposited for many years. The big question is who opened the account for Abacha in UK and who was receiving the deposits? FJT had weaknesses like any other human has but we should not see him…

  8. Edgar China Lungu, the most corrupt president the country has ever had, telling us to emulate the second most corrupt president the country has ever had??? This must be a joke, and it’s a bad one!

  10. @Dominion-Thank you for speaking the truth. Asia is more developed because they respect their leaders and not vilify them like us Africans. The African mind is colonised to think our leaders are just thieves while the western white leaders are so noble. In the end we fail to think for ourselves and depend on them for everything while in Asia they are so Independent minded they manufacture everything the westerners make and believe in themselves. That’s why upnd donkeys insult the president daily but fear foreign leaders. See for yourself above. Beware and vote wisely, Zambians.

  11. ECL must learn a lesson from Chiluba. Chiluba fought very hard for a Third Term. When Chiluba realised that Zambians had rejected his Third Term Bid he obliged. Lungu thinks he is cleverer than Chiluba and is dribbling Zambians into a Third Term gifted by Zambia Concourt. Zambians are not foolish. They will show u on August 12 that they got the Power and Final say to reject your Third Term Steal. On August 12 the Majority of Voters will elect HH as the next Republican President The writing is on the wall.

  13. Charity begins at home Mr President. Learn to respect Term Limits Mr President. Chiluba fought very hard for a Third Term but was persuaded to let go. He eventually relented. U Mr President think u are cleverer than Chiluba. U have schemed to steal a Third Term with the help of Zambia Concourt. People of Zambia will teach u a lesson on August 12. Zambians will reject u and vote overwhelmingly for HH and UPND Alliance. People are Angry and Hungry for a change of Govt. On August 12 Voters will send u “ku wire “. A vote against u is a vote of no Confidence in Zambia Concourt. Time will tell.

  15. Former President FT Kiluba will be remembered most as the person who opened Zambians to businesses which were then dominated by parastatals. It was during his reign that Zambians started building their own houses, talk of Chalala (Lusaka) and other places country wide. Now Zambians are participating in public transport after UBZ was liquidated. he Kiluba might have made mistakes on wholesome privatization but there more positive things which came due to MMD’s liberisation policies. As for the British and their ill Task Force on Corruption the whole thing was a scam, The British were angered after Kiluba cancelled the Purchase of ZCCM Entities as a whole through the Kafue Consortium. This action angered the British as they did everything within their means to fund the TASK FORCE ON…

  16. He was a very great man. I learned a lot from him about the theory and practice of democratic dispensations. I remember taking notes of every word he spoke because I wanted to be like him or in government. I achieved just that. Rip

  17. What’s wrong with Lazy Lungu? He needs to get his priorities right …firstly he was in Western Province when KK passed busy campaigning and leaving a civil servant to make announcements, Flightrader24 was also showing that the Presidential Jet was in Cairo this week and now this he can not show himself at FTJ’s remembrance.
Please vote wisely this man has no leadership qualities whatsoever!!

  18. Our perception of FTJ being corrupt was fueled by Fred Mmembe’s the Post. We now know what real corruption looks like. They wrote all manner of stories about him but he never worked day and night to shut them down. Under Chiluba we could criticize without looking over our shoulder.
We should never under estimate the magnitude of change Chiluba presided over and the challenges that come with any major change process. The country moved frm a one party communist socialist philosophy to a multi party democratic capitalist country during his reign. We all got to learn that a President works for us and is not wamuyayaya and of course we also learnt what entrepreneurship and owning property meant.

The man had many flaws but I think we are not really fair in assessing his contribution to…

  20. He pompwe wants the Zambian people to emulate a heavy duty pompwe who has left no legacy but only a bad name for his children.
Same applies to him ECL who will be forgotten few seconds after being thrown into the trash. There will be NO good thing this man will be remembered for.
ECZ shall be forced to tell the Zambian people how much this old fashioned type of president declared to them on the 13th of August and they will be taken to prison for abetting a pompwe like this ugly……….pompwe.

  21. No one shall ever emulate ecl for he is a bad precedence to the Morden crop of leaders we ought to have as a country.
The moment this replica of a president shall be put in the trash ninsi kwasila no remembrance.

  22. President Edgar Lungu always motivates Zambians to be better people and work towards making Zambia a better country for all.

  23. The country is blessed to have so many legends that have been born here in Zambia including President Lungu.

  24. We have understood one thing that good deeds and generous people are always remembered even if they are gone!

  25. I think our youths are learning a lot from President Lungu. They are taking their lives seriously. Working hard, feeding their families, no one UPND cadre’s life!

  26. The majority of youths are the supporter of President Edgar Lungu because he has initiated several empowerment projects that benefit thousands of youths including in rural areas.

  27. On the other hand, we have UPND leader HH, who gives money to young people for spreading violence across the country. Sick!

  28. It is funny to see how Hichilema’s followers dance to his tune without having knowledge about anything! ????

  29. That is the baddest Joke of the year. Many Innocentius Zambians got executed by Chiluba white waiting clemence after being sentenced to destijds.
Chiluba is the greatest thief in our history. Chiluba though himself a Congolese introducés tribalisme in Zambia.
