Ministry’s Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kennedy Malama has said that despite the bleak clinical picture being experienced in Zambia now, the rate of recovery of COVID-19 patients remains encouraging, with 2,554 patients discharged.
In a statement today on the COVD-19 update, Dr. Malama said that 169 are from the isolation facilities and 2,385 from home management.
“On a sad note, we recorded 52 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours,”. he said.
“We now have 22,099 active cases, of whom 20,829 are under community management and 1,270 are admitted to Covid-19 isolation facilities,”.
Dr. Malama clarified that among those currently under admission, 885 are on Oxygen therapy and 187 are in critical condition.
“We assure the nation that we remain confident that we will conquer COVID 19 as a country,”. he said.
“We are encouraged by the positive response in adhering to public health measures we have witnessed in the past few days,”.
He added that Lusaka, Copperbelt, Muchinga, and Northern provinces have commenced administering the second dose vaccines in the setup sites.
And Dr Malama has disclosed that the Ministry of Health has administered a 777-second dose of Astrazeneca Vaccinations since the resumption of the Programme this week bringing the cumulative vaccinations to date now to 135,263.
Dr. Malama added that the Ministry has also received the documentation for the 108,000 doses of AstraZeneca and processed the importation permit through the Zambia Medicines and Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA).
“There is unequivocal scientific evidence showing that if you receive the two doses less than six weeks apart, the efficacy is only around 54% as opposed to 82% if the interval is 12 weeks or more,” he said.
He further said that in the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 2,816 new confirmed Covid-19 cases out of 10,918 tests conducted indicating 26% positivity.
Incredible. The infection rate is increasing like there is no tomorrow, and the guy says the news is “encouraging”. What a hypocrite and hopelessly ineffective government is totally not in control. And Edgar China Lungu is just quoting from the scripture! He clearly has got no idea! PF: Lying about everything, not delivering anything!
That’s the spirit. Look at the positive and not the negative in a crisis. Press forward, mind over matter and you will be victorious. I am also confident that this so called 3rd wave is just a whim that will soon fade away with the end of the cold season. For all we know, we have probably already even reached the peak and are now going downhill. Meanwhile, let everyone follow MoH regulations and do their part in staying safe. God bless Zambia!
Tell that the the Sikwela, Nsingo, Mambilima, Kaunda, Mabenga families etc. I am sure they will understand.
When we talk about a Govt that talks less and delivers acceptable achievement that is what defines PF except they have not invested so much in communicating the positive results and achievements but when you critically analyse how they manage in many spheres you see a systematic and practical govt system at work.
OH DAVID HOW DIM ARE YOU
THE HANDLING IS SHOCKING THE REPORTING IS NOT CORRECT
ARE THEY DOING THEIR BEST WELL FOR THIS GOVERNMENT I SDUPPOSE THEY ARE
BUT THEY STILL WELL WELL BELOW PAR
CHECK THE CEMETARIES AND MORGUES
GET THE CORRECT FIGURES AND YOU WILL SHOCKED
One death is always one too many.
Some of you are too good at discouraging or negatively in everything. But what I do understand is a positive mind will always Yard good results. We are very positive that the government is at work and we are looking forward to great positive results and not Ababa ngomulonge abatelela ngomulembwe
@THE SAINT Death is a part of life and even Christ said: “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed..” The sooner we accept and learn how to come to terms with death, the better for us. Every day someone dies but every day there’s also a newly born into this world. It’s a constant arrival and departure and life is a continuum (the soul is immortal) – but that is beyond the spheres of this discussion.
Reading this man’s press release always confuses me! Why can they just not put a nice chart and one sentence. So if X number is found positive from unknown number of tests and unknown sample points, how is that informative?
And what is community management is it a big word for home isolation, because I think there is no medicine to give these people. This information is so muddled that the only conclusion is the COVID situation is bad in Zambia but none knows how bad or where it is heading to?
If I was his boss would replace him for someone who would inform nation and not play PF stupid games!
Those complaining the most are upnd diasporans who funnily live in countries there abroad where millions have died. The same jokers who cannot even send a single ngwee their parents and grandparents in the villages. Disgusting
Start by pumping more funds in corvid hospitals so they can get more oxygen bottles, more kits etc and give extra funds
For doctors and nurses on frontline.
What is happening is every Govt hospital and clinic is a test point and its these numbers that he announces at press briefings. Those with covid but with mild symptoms are sent home to self isolate and prescription given. They go back to be tested if found positive the report is given as part of home discharge. Only the critically ill are admitted in hospitals otherwise it would congest the already overwhelmed health care system and besides covid is more like common flu for those with mild symptoms so its better administered at home and home remedies are also advised and recommended.
Can the health ministry restrategise on how we handle funerals, this idea of droves of people at mortuaries, funeral homes and burial places needs to be regulated. Funeral are a potential super spreader if not handled well, we saw in Brazil were they were only allowing 2 family members to attend burial.
