Talking Point: Lucky Shot Against Dario

Share

Was lucky Msiska right to square up with Dario Bonetti today at Football House on Friday?

The Zambia national team assistant and Dario on Friday allegedly engaged in a slugfest at Football House in a postmortem of Zambia’s Cecafa senior Challenge Cup debacle.

It is not surprising that Msiska blew his top on Friday.

He has shown signs of his darker side in his two assignments with the Under-23 team after he was sent off twice in as many invitational tournaments with the team.

Msiska doesn’t shy away from expressing his views whether it is over the referee or in the Cecafa Cup on why Zambia lost against Ethiopia in the post-match interview with the local press including LT.

His body language was clear at the airport when the team arrived back from Tanzania on Wednesday.

In the VIP lounge, he chose to mingle at the far end with the players rather than with Dario and Faz officials at the opposing end that three days later boiled over and culminated in Football House turning into Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas.

For a long time Zambian assistant coaches have been docile under their foreign masters on the bench.

However, they are some documented cases of fallouts like Boniface Simutowe’s with both Roald Poulsen and the late Ian Porterfield while the late George Mungwa had his own latent opinion about Burkhard Ziese.

Local coaches always strike a lone figure at training against their foreign superiors at national team level and always look like glorified ball boys.

Was Msiska right to break the old myth of don’t talk don’t show your emotions under a white coach whatever the case?

  1. Msiska is probably thinking he is more qualified to lead the team than this fella! Give him the job as he knows the history and strenghts of zambian football. Why waste money on this coach. We in europe are leading the forefront and actually bossing these guys. I do not want to come to zed and and see a half educated chinese showing me what to do things which i ve done them 100 fold! We need people like Lucky!!

  2. – Dario has not yet started his job. He is always out of the country since he came with his own brothers. How can you hire 2 brothers and a cousin, even if they are friends of RB’s son?
    – Lucky (Mwanawakwitu-Muchofe) Msiska has been around since he was offered a a coaching job. He humbled himself by accepting to be an assistant to musungu, even though he is 3 times more qualified than the 3 Italian Mafias.

  3. Lets see if Simataa and Kamanga will fire Dario immediately, he is worsting money. We all know with Kalu, those 2 enermies will just be reconcilled.

  4. #3 Seleka Ntambe – Wansekesha ati 3 italian mafias. Well lets wait and see what Erick “Chemical Ali” Mwanza will say.

  5. Dario Bonnet is just wasting our tax money, I can see Chipolopolo failing 2 qualify 2 the Africa Cup with him. He is one of the worst coach we can ever have. Hope it wait take our two beloved FAZ presidents (Kalu/Kamanga) fovever to realise that and terminate his contract. Lucky can do a better job.

  6. Can someone pls tell me the benefits of these good 4 nothing bazungu expatriates who are paid huge tax payerz money. Kalu has destroyed ZED football. All these bazungu mafias he single handedly employ have never won anything. Our own Patrick Phiri won COSAFA plus CECAFA with very little pay. Kalus’s a.s.s stinks amafi zoona !!!!

  7. Abena Chamboli you really are telling me that Patrick Phiri was coach when Zambia defeated the entire eastern and central African nations. Then conquered the south with his brilliance? Though still paid meager wages. Wow!

  8. The story is not complete.what did msiska do or say.its suprising that i never read any part in this story which is describing the coach’s actions.

  9. Its a sad situation. The all issue was bad and unprofessional but i sympathise with Lucky. In Zambia foreign coaches and generally foreigners are over respected and get far more money than the locals. you can go to the same university with umusungu in europe, sit in the same lectures and may be even peform better but when you go back home, your classmate will be an expart and will be deemed to have more knowledge than an indigenous person. lets say no! we have what it takes to run our affairs only in extreme cases should we fall on foreigners.

  10. one just wonders how this ghost of a coach got excited on spanking a bunch of sea pirates called somalia.he lives by luck

  11. Docile, low esteem, sub-servant Zambians always looking up to Mzungus as masters. Over forty years of independence and you cant hire your own indeginous Zambians to call the shots. From running mines, building roads, investments, coaching football…….always yes bwana to the white man, shameful, even a simple thing as coaching or building a road, you have to rely on foreigners. An intelligent person would say watch how these foreigners do it the first time around, then learn and start doing it yourself. Thats how China, Malaysia, Singapore, India etc did it and look where they are today. Get out of this dependency self-depricating mentality, no one will fix Zambias problems but Zambians…..

  12. #10 . U’v got a point. But the latter part of your last sentence doesnt mean any thing, I quote, “…..only in EXTREME cases should we FALL on foreigners”.

  13. They beat a group of pirates on vacation and start celebrating.
I see nothing wrong in hirig expatriates, but our Galu has been hiring his friends/partners who have no coaching experience to ride on the chipolopolo name.
Are there enough Zambian coaches who can do a better job?????????????
    Galu tha faka…~X(

  14. Lucky was based in Europe and he understands whites much better. So for him to fear is a non-starter, hence, expressing his feelings. Only a Zambian based coach who has never been outside or even exposed will shy away from saying something when it is not working. Sometimes our white friends think when they come to us they have every knowledge and that we should just be YES men. Lucky knows they are just people like us. In-fact we should have no fear of them, but respect should be mutual. Some of these people are below capacity as compared to our people. Only that we are taken as a third world. Dario must be able to read any game as a coach so well. He must not be rigged. Let him not be like Kalu.

  15. Bushe umusungu ni Lesa, untouchable? Here, tulabacila mu ma class, elo balapona sana ninshi iwe cifita naufipasa sana!!!!

  16. Lusaka Times your reporting lucks substance. You people you news collection is too poor and mostly your news items are hollow????????????. What type of news reporting is this?

  17. The 3 coaches are rubbish. How do you employ people that have never coached a national team. Its just corruption. Msiska was right!!!

  18. DEAR BLOGGERS, THE QUESTIONS WE AS ZAMBIAS ARE SUPPOSED TO AS OUSELVES IS, WHY HAVE WE PERVERSED IN GIVING JOBS TO FOREIGN COACHES? WHAT GLORY HAVE THEY BROUGHT TO OUR MOTHER LAND. MUCHOFE CAN BE 80% CORRECT. WE SHOULD READ THIS IN CONTEXT.

  19. #20 good question and I am glad you asked it. but do you know what will happen if remove this obviously ineffectual muzungu and replace him with Lucky? yes you guess right, the insulting, PHD brigade will be activated and before you know it, Lucky’s days are numbered. I challenge anyone, anyone to dispute this because like it or not, this is the Zambian way, the Zambian culture. Even befor he left Belgium, I implored Lucky to reconsider this unworkable plan of going back to Zambia and dreaming of giving back, like most of us out here do, something to the motherland. however, the relity is the situation is you have to be sure you can withstand the PHD and from experience very few people can. Recent case in point, Kalu, and if he was wise he would have known by now that he will never go

  20. much further with whatever plans he had for Zambian soccer. give it up Kalu! You can try all you can but remember the saying ‘ you can take a horse to a stream but can never make it drink ‘ or something to that effect

  21. Lucky is right very soon we will know that lineup selection for the game against Ethiopia was a problem brought about the outburst. All the two coaches who were in Tanzania were spectators including Msiska,no one understands Zambian football. How do you bench Billy Mwanza a coach on the pitch, full of instruction to his friends. The same happened in Angola giving a spot kick to Thomas at the expense of Chansa. We are fed up with these foreign trainers.

  22. The entire Zambian football circus needs to be taken back to the drawing board. No infrastrucure, no serious youth football, no competitive school/komboni tournaments, no sponsors, no political will and kids of now adays seem to have gone the the digital route (computer games, DStv etc)!

If we address the above (or some) issues, then:

    1. We wont need to hire football charlatans like Boneti and his Mafia group
    2. Lucky “Mwana wa kwithu Muchofe” Msiska with his experience from Europe won’t need to snub Boneti but will instead deliver for Zambia
    3. Will regain the pride and patriotism most Zambians have shamelessly lost (they will no longer sell their souls to supporting European leagues).
$ Will regain our position as a football powerhouse in Africa (imagine, losing to…

  23. The loss should not come as a surprise. Zambia took a c side while Ethiopia played their 1st team. Even Jose mourinho could not have won that game. Ba LT what exactly happened between Msiska and his boss? It seems some bloggers here suffer fro Simata Simata syndrome. Hating someone with a passion.

  24. FAZ is to blame.Msiska is Zambian and therefore knows how it hurts when the country goes down and not this Italian guy who is more interested in money.Kalusha lives in SAfrica while Bonet lives in Italy why cant we just let them go.Msiska packed all and lives in Zambia and even helps some clubs technically. Why not just give him the job

  25. # 26 u’re correct Kalusha lives in SAfrica while Bonet lives in Italy & so both of them dont care whether Zambia wins or not. All they care 4 is money. Kalu is just busy tryin 2 use FAZ just as a steppin stone 4 CAF / FIFA positions thats all.

  26. My dear bloggers, it brings a lot of tears when we people who live in foreign lands are asked,”What has really gone wrong with Zambian football?” Worse still, when they take us back to the time of “KK eleven and Zambia” Am happy to have lived at that time when Zambia was at its peak, what is remaning is just a story to tell my children. The fall of ZCCM bloggers is one of the contribution factors that has led to the dimise of Zambian football. Who will serve Zambian football?

  27. #30 Matundwelo, you are right. back then there was a sense of pride when Zambian football was mentioned. But also those in administration had already proved their success in running organisations.talk of the likes of Tom Mtine, DAR Phiri, etc. We need a total overhaul of football in Zambia
