President Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect revoked the appointment of Beatrice Mwila Yevuka as acting Chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).
This is barely 24 hours after her appointment was announced. President Hichilema has also removed Ms Yevuka as a member of the LGSC Board with immediate effect.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo announced this at a press briefing held at Royal Laricio Lodge in Mazabuka, today.
Mr Nkombo explains that the President Hichilema’s decision is line with the Local Government Service Act Number 10 0f 2016, which provides for the removal of the LGSC Chairperson if he or she is unable to discharge duties.
On this score, Mr Nkombo said Ms Yevuka was unable to discharge her duties due to her alleged serious political affiliation to a named political party.
“The revocation of Ms Yevuka’s appointment and removal from the board is due to the partisan nature of her persona,” he said.
Mr. Nkombo further said the position of Local Government Service Commission Chairperson needed a level headed person, and not individuals who were “ politically warm or hot “ as the case allegedly was for Ms Yevuka.
“Since her appointment was announced, we have been receiving files indicating that she is politically active,” Mr Nkombo said.
The minister also clarified that contrary to assertions from various sections of society and social media platforms, he did not appoint Ms Yevuka as LGSC Acting Chairperson.
Ms Yevuka’s appointment was as a result of the position of LGSC Chairperson falling vacant after the removal of Mr Amos Musonda by President Hichilema.
She was then appointed as acting Chairperson of the Commission for administrative convenience pending the substantive appointment of a Chairperson by the Republican President.
She was later appointed the acting Chairperson of the Commission for administrative convenience with effect from September 17, 2021.
Until this appointment, Ms Yevuka was Local Government Service Commission Vice Chairperson.

Everyone that has served under PF must be re-apply to their respective positions. Each one must undergo a thorough background check before consideration. Most of them are rotten. The rot that was going on is beyond and none of them can be trusted. She is not the only one. Please clean up the whole system. First audit them so all the information comes in.

This is a correct reversal but we should find out who broke the law and appointed a Cadre in the first place otherwise the illegal practice will continue. This is why some of us have been saying leave politics out of the civil and public service. Cadres should not be appointed to these institutions. The president has enough leeway to appoint cabinet but these posts such as permanent secretaries should be left to professionals in the civil and public services. Things need to be corrected once and for all.
Oh dear, this is embarrassing indeed for the UPND rookie government. So they don’t vet these people before appointing them to key govt positions? This looks like appoint first, then do the vetting process later – it should be the other way round. And I don’t like the fact a president can just fire anyone at a whim for alleged suspicion of belonging to the opposition party… I hope proper evidence was there and not just rumours and innuendo. Belonging to a political party shouldn’t disqualify you from holding a government position.
By the way we have so many useless agencies, commissions and what not. How do all these boards, ministries get aligned and coordinated to ensure they all pull in the same direction? What’s this commission doing different from the permanent secretary office and the ministry and the local councils? Is this all part of creating employment for the many jobless people?

Supporting everything the party you support [ UPND for me, in this case]. Objectivity demands I admit more though vetting should have been conducted before the appointment.

The purge begins! Anyone with a wrong sounding name, will be deemed PF affiliate! Regrettable. Not everyone in employment during PF rule supported them. Most people, even those directly involved with PF, were in despair; it’s the reason the tide shifted and UPND was elected. So, careful your actions are not seen as vengeful dismisals – things will backfire!

I just wonder weather firing people from their jobs is indeed job creation they promised Zambians , what I do know those jobs are all Zambian jobs to which every capable Zambian has qualified for.
