Zambezi District Commissioner (DC), Bisalom Luwaile, has appealed to the management of Libya African Investment Portfolio (LAP) Green Networks formerly Zamtel, to expeditiously restore telephone lines in Zambezi district in North Western Province.
Telephone lines in Zambezi district have not been working for over a month now, a situation that has crippled communication through telephone, fax, and internet facilities.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Luwaile observed that LapGreen is a major communication system which Government departments, business houses and other stakeholders relied on to get in touch with the whole country and the world at large.
He said the current situation had impacted negatively on development activities in the district and people had been left in the dark about events in the country.
Mr. Luwaile further asked the Lap Green management to extend Cell Z facilities to Zambezi district commending the company’s mobile phone services as affordable.
He also lauded other mobile phone service providers such as Airtel and MTN for operating in the district.
He said without these mobile phone service providers, the entire district would have been without any means of communication.

Was SERVICE CONDITIONS placed in the contract?
“Mr. Luwaile further asked the Lap Green management to extend Cell Z facilities to Zambezi district commending the company’s mobile phone services as affordable”. Bwana DC how do you expect them to extend service to Zambezi when there is no signal at 10 miles in lusaka from the north !!
Here we go, let us wait and see!
We’ll wait and see. Our boys are still studying what privitazation means in Zambia
these guys have a lot to learn when it comes to service delivery, a few days back the MPLS network was down for over half a day, business day for that matter…in other countries, such events mark the downfall of companies…..but ni pa zed, they can get away with anything
Bloggers, this should have been reported mid last month. There was a big telecomunication break down on the copperbelt. I faxed an instruction to the bank several times and it couldn’t go through, faulty at the receiving end. i attempted several times to call the 2 lines and was only successful an hr. When i couldn’t get through to another branch in Chililabombwe, i phoned one of the staff personal mobile, only to be told that the phones in the bank were down because LAP GREEN network had a problem with the communication links.
I was dealing with a personal emergency then, Can you imagine how companies missed out on revenue, customer service, domestic use. This is LAP GREEN FOR YOU, RB and his sons at work. This is just a tip of an iceberg guys!
This is the first time I am even hearing of LAP GREEN! Surerly, there should have been better companies which should have taken over Zamtel than this make-shift service provider. Should these guys go bust there will be no internet pa zed! Foreigners are running our economy due dubious privatisation policies! It is really sad!
It’s time to privatise ZESCO. I can’t wait for remote areas to also experience total darkness, that’s what they deserve for voting for MMD!
Guys, let me just make a few clarifications. Zamtel is still Zamtel, it has not changed to Lap Green. Lap Green are the new owners with a 75 percent take. The Reporter is not correct to say “Lap Green, formerly Zamtel.”
Next, Zambezi is fed by repeater micro-wave sites which are prone to fail due to bad rain weather. The Disstrict has been receiving intermitent fixed line service on account of bad weather. However, the Zamtel team of engineers are on the ground installing power generators and solar panels to resolve this problem permanently.
