By Yaba
A Licensed Counselor was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children….
“You all have obsessions,” he observed. To the first mother, he said, “You are obsessed with eating. You’ve even named your daughter Candy.” He turned to the second Mom. “Your obsession is with money. Again, it manifests itself in your child’s name, Penny.” He turns to the third Mom. “Your obsession is alcohol. This too manifests itself in your child’s name, Brandy.” At this point, the fourth mother gets up, takes her little boy by the hand and whispers, “Come on, Dick, we’re leaving.”

Webmaster’s choice Award

26. Best story teller on Lusakatimes

The award goes to Digga.

Here are two stories by Digga that kept bloggers and LT staff alike mesmerized

1st story

You know.. the thing that annoys me even more is that on the other hand , that con of a mine Lumwana has just announced $198 million dollars in Operating Profit of the 9 months to December 2009!!!!.. and paid ZERO, ZILCH , NADA , “0? in taxes because they 1) offset huge Capital Allowance credit that will run for several more years 2) other tax concession.. I spent 5 days on the mine this January, and I tell you I wanted to cry.. There is no brick a mortar structure at all. all Offices, house etc are either Prefabricated structures imported from South Africa or 20 foot or 40 foot containers converted to offices..
and I mean the whole mine including the prefabricated houses under the so call Lumwana housing scheme that they are mortgaging to staff. There is NO TARRED ROAD in the whole of the mine and mine town ship area (with the prefabs) I mean no a metre of BITUMEN / Molasses TAR.. ITS ALL GRAVEL and mud like a farm. There is no SMELTER only a SIEMENS CONCENTRATOR. In the plant area the grinds the ore from the BALL MILL into Concentrate .. thats the plant – thats it..
Then from the Concentrator, the COPPER CONCENTRATE ( POWDER) is loaded into 100 waiting ZALAWI Trucks mostly for Export straight tot the USA.. Apparently because of the Uranium content, KCM or MOPANI are is not buying the Lumwana concentrate, only Chambishi Mines (Chinese) is buying some… I was so angry .. and like that was not enough I went to the General Offices (where MD admin are) and almost collapsed when I saw a big black sculpture at the entrace that had both hands of a person clasped together in a THANKYOU and in the middle of it read “””Lumwana mine officially opened in Nov 09 by his Excellency Rupiah Banda President of Zambia”””” Nalefwaya uku pena.. and right next to it was a normal Plackard that had Mwanawasa’s Official Opening.. I mean what ???? I almost threw up.. and when the guys on the mine told me the mine expansion plans I wanted to cry..
They really have none apart from a Uranium processing facility.. none.. They have no plan to set up a SMELTER.. There’s none in the next 7 years at least- forget a refinery and so have no plan to produce Copper bars .. Cathodes they call it for export or sale to Manufacturing companies like ZAMEFA in Zambia that make wires etc.. I so so annoyed I tell you.. We’ve been hoodwinked and we let them.. I will not even talk about the CHINGOLA to SOLWEZI road that bent my TYRE RIMS.. THIS IS NOT AN INVESTOR: WE dont need this.. In this day and age WE ARE EXPORTING CONCENTRATE.. and at that concentrator they separate the diamonds, Gold from the copper.. and the metals are flown out by plane to buyers..
I’m not racist or xenophobic at all but you will not find a ZAMBIAN in a Management position whether its for Lumwana or the several CONTRACTOR Firms (Camp Management Firms, Construction & Civils) and there are many many non citizens doing simple jobs (like tyre mending, equipment supervisor) we used to do for many years in our rich Copper mining history.. Apparently they say the Zambia’s Mining Labour Market (all miners in Zambia) dont have the Acumen, required experience and skills to manage of supervise operational tasks in a “20th Century Mine”.. How or why did Mangani (Home affairs) issued all those work permits for jobs that can be

done by Locals? Zambians we need to wake up!!!.. We can Own and run the these mines. We have the skills and experience.. We NEED TO BE SERIOUS!!!!!

2nd Story

( Digga’s initial comments to a story on a robbery)
#2 Slumdog shalaz…. ma ma ma ma … my brotha not ZP police mwana… I’ve enough respect for C5.. believe me.. I’ve witnessed 1st hand their wrath and modus operandi.. We were all diving for cover in our offices opposite Fire station across Evelyn hone… trust me.. you’ll hear soon that bandits have been gunned down..
The only problem is the EXTRA JUDICIAL kiiling that they do.. but ZP I’ve enough respect.. especially after Mateyo and the late Wazakaza N’guni… The way ZP CID(C5 & flying squad ) Operate.. it’s a scipt out of a movie.. As we speak.. probably a dragnet has been set up u to Kapiri.. they operate with Intelligence.. They are patient. they even wait for months till their moment.. my guess is those crimminals are trying to leave town with their heist cause they know the’ve been circled. I’ve have little faith in GRZ but massive respect for POLICE force when it matters when things are serious.. no judges, no warning shots.. THEY gun down and parade your body for all to see.. PICS in newspapers and then throw ur carcass at back to C5 Nissan Hardbody van, with excited guys waving AK’s weaving through traffic to General Hospital mortuary.. Then the disappear.. They wear masks in operation.

The story

7# Nine Chale 2007 October.. Nali pa job pa LSK.. aka celo fye around 8:30… people even crossing the road walking past Fire station from the Traffic lights at that Evelyn hone T-junction.. There was a lot of traffic as usual in the morning RED.. The traffic lights hit Red.. 20 seconds later.. a few screams, a car then raved.. two shouts after that.. then the AK47 rang 4 warning shots.. Our office is upstairs and along the road so everyone then turned to see what was happening.. You know.. from no where up 5 cars coming from all directions cut the road, with armed police -some in ZP gear acrobatically jumping out of moving vehicles.. moving into a cordon..
A car blocked by traffic then bashed the car in front.. 3 Armed bandits jumped out.. stopped the car going down Makishi road to Nothmead…At that same moment our very own anti robbery squad rang I think up 7 warning shots.. and took aim at the car.. while the C5 units prepared for the chase.. Other units that were on foot unassuming jumping into the back of speeding Nissan hard body in chase.. But I’ll tell you after the 2nd AK shot the whole office dived for cover.. there are guns and there are gun shots. but that of the AKmilitary assault rifle is deadly, deafening-a scary thing.. All this happend in a space of two minutes and seven cars chased down makishi.. 15-20 minutes later.. The C5 boys were standing on top of a convoy of 3 hard white hardbodys lights fully beamed, sweepng the road like presidential motorcade back up the road to same traffic lights then truned left headed for UTH.. much to the stunned somewhat muted applause of the passers and people standing around and others that had come to listen to the action that happend 20 minutes earlier.
kabovas whistled as three piled bodys lay at the back of the not in a hurry C5 bad *** team.. lights full beam. hazards on… was crazy.. we told that story for days… So those bandits trying to speed away in the car they highjacked had their tires shot just before Northmed total filling station and careered off the road.. They got out and tried to run.. but were taken out swifty shot in the back , buttocks by sniper guys in the on rushing hard body..
off course people watching at the scene split.. Ephraim Mateyo was on news then explaining the operation and that for months they tracked the gang who were headed to kamwala to rob Finance Bank.. Tabangala pa Zed ba anti robbery and armed special forces. A career of armed robberies does not pay in Zambia.. At least you wont live long enough.. Uke pushe that gang that terrorised the Copperbelt 3 year ago. Those chaps were killed in a major operation..Inspector General Ephraim Mateyo even warned before the operation began.. people thought he was joking.. the amazing thing is a week later a group of wanted chaps actually truned themselves in saying they would rather go to jail and not be killed by the C5 knowing thats what would happen.. though there are new criminals back on the belt I see kabwe now as well. but the current IG is uninspiring.. just arrests Chansa Kabwela
C5 … so called .. Is the special anti robbery/terrorist squad unit in the Criminal Investigations Dept of the Zambia police.. the name comes from the numberering of their Office door at Zambia police HQ.. They are in room C5..

27. Government Minister  easily  reachable and close to the people

The award goes to Hon Dora Siliya because she keeps her facebook page upto date and interacts with online Zambians and responds to comments and e-mails

Hon Dora Siliya

  1. Wow, what happened? I thought I would scoop Award #19, but looks like I did not even make it to the list of nominees. I think my fan base need to pull up socks and work hard this year. We need to bag this award in 2011.

  2. Interesting results. But Henry seems to have written better sense and better ideas than the overal winner Elias Munshya wa Munshya who has only spoken as a best cadre for MMD. Again, on the most analytical LT bloger- capital something is definately far from being analytical. He would rather agree with shikapwasha that LSK roads are conjected because of economic boom. Is this analysis?

  3. I am very dissapointed with Bonnie Kapeso’s acronym for the Mushili based police squad. SWAT stands for Special Weapons and Training. That said, Kapeso’s Small Weapons Alert Team sounds rather silly ! :(|)

  4. Thank you LT and I would also like to thank everyone that voted for me for #25 and nominated me for #22. I would also like to thank all those that have given me constructive criticism over the year which includes THE SAINT, MMD Chief Bootlicker, Nine Chale, Maestro, veteran, Positivist pa Zed just to name a few.

I would also like to thank all those that I have had both constructive and useless debate with which includes Kalos2020 aka Kalos2121, Smooth Criminal, Deja Vu, Zed Patriot, THE JACKAL just to name a few.

2010 was an interesting year and I hope 2011 will be better on LT since it is election year. I expect a lot of constructive debate this year.

    Once again, thank you everyone.

  5. Ba LT thanx lam satisfied with the results of all your awards except for Zesco.Their services were pathetic in 2010.

  6. Hey eevryone. Every year around this time, i pop here to see if any of you missed me, but alas. Will check out next year…..just incase. Congrats to all the winners, special mention goes to Nine chale, my beloved brother.

  7. The Most ruff looking politician:
The Nominees are: Satana, Rasheed Lubinda, Impala Mpombo.
And the Award goes to ; Satana.

  8. Good work ba LT. This is a good summary of events from 2010. Well done. The issuance of work permits in Zambia seems to be too easy – that’s why mine like Lumwana and Kansanshi have Admin offices that look like South Africa in 1985!
I will look up Dora Siliya on facebook.

  9. The best picture is from The Post website and was taken by Thomas Nsama, LT learn to appreciate the work of other people otherwise you will be sued. You even label it lusaka times when you stole it from the Post. Shame on you

  10. Congratulations to all the winners. I had put up a spirited run for all the LT blogger nominees but this year they are in for it. All the same congratulations and keep it up.

  11. Are you sure William banda is the most controversial person of the year. I thought Frank Bwalya was. William Banda is not controversial. he’s ruthless, shame on him.I doubt it if farmers house is better managed than Zambeef.

  12. Congrats to all, your comments made us laugh, upset, and perplexed… but most importantly we did all this in a peaceful and dignified manner. I look forward to more analytical debates this year. Chao.

  13. Is William Banda Zambian and did he truly deserve that award. Anyway the man is full of controversy even his nationality is a controversy

  14. # 28 Bella, The word chao is used in spanish colloquial and it means “bye” or “goodbye”. Individuals with little knowledge always want to show the know more, what a shame.

  15. Ba LT
    # 16 TUKAFILILAMUSENGA had an interesting story coming up.Is LT owned by John Banda?or you are fearing litigation?

  16. I know ba PF hate me for telling the truth but MMD bloggers we get on. Im glad then my message is being broadcast all over the world among zambians. Thanks LT I will even blog harder

  17. WHAT A GREAT WORK LT BEEN DOING, U NO HOW TO UNITY US THRU THIS PLATFORM. WISHING ALL THE BLOGGERS A GREAT AND SUCCESSFUL YEAR. ONE MORE THING BA LT, YOU FORGOT ONE CATEGORY, THE MOST INTERESTING, FUNNY NAME OR WASTE NAME PAMA BLOGGERS. HOPE YOU INCLUDE SUCH NEXT TIME OK MA BOSSES!

  18. this is 11th January 2011 and some of you have already started amassing points as the worst bloggers of 2011. why cant you stick to the subject matter. atase

  19. I like Gigga’s story-telling. Sounds like Mickey Spillane writing about Mike Hammer.
And baMaureen @8 – SWAT stands for ‘Special Weapons and Tactics’.

  20. Thanks LT and I would like to thank my mum, my dad, my uncle jim, aunty zee, grandma kapolyo, all my nieces, kanenze, kalimba, mulando, kateleshi ( i dont know why), all my children and all my fans. Without your support I would have not managed to win this prestigious award.

  21. Ba LT
Why are you blocking my post? What happened to free speech? You ve just awarded yourselves the ‘LT award for stifling free speech’.

  22. My sincere congratulations go to one and only Nkalanda for his immense sense of humour, remember he came up with the idea of popcorns to make you cope with numerous exciting items of breaking news.
I wouldn’t say William Banda is controversial, he is just a nut case.

  23. Thanks LT Honchos for the publication. I take pride in the nomination of being the most hated nominee. In public affairs it a symbol and quality of unflinching patriotism, dependability, preparedness, selflessness and no nonsense solidarity to Zambian interest against excessive love for praise. People of my character without a heart of appeasement on national interest are impossible to compromise inn inimical plans to mother Zambia. To all that nominated me i say you are my fellow patriots. I will not fail you and the country in defending Zambia. Count on me in delivering a landslide this year, contribute economically on the ground and defend national interest. Patriots are unflinching and not loved. Security expert say, “excessive love for praise is a no for national leadership”.

  24. Congrats winners and well done to LT. Our Phd students also suggested 2 vital categories for 2011 inclusion: the most clean town/city in Zambia and the most dirty town/city in Zambia. And the winner is…

  25. #31 sorry i was misled by your congo flag I have actually been to Barcelona for a whole month. I used english and german never spanish!! Thanks for clarifying!! Ciao Bella!!

  26. Congrats to the winners tho i feel Henry Kyammbalesa deserved to win the contributor one.Anyway it is a democracy the majority rules.

  27. Nice one and well deserved awards.

Sadly, I did not even appear on the nominated people 44 ZEDIAN.

Congrats to the awarded people and institutions and for us who did get an award, let us not lose heart bt continue to support Zambia and Zambians especially LT to keep up this great task.

    Be blest all.
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

  28. #48 There you go again there is no country called Congo, there is the Democratic Republic of Congo [Congo – Kinshasa] and Republic of Congo [Congo Brazzaville].

  29. # 45 Drum stick – Walasa mani and thanks for your support. I will share my trophy with you if I will ever get one from LT.

  30. I congratulate all the winners, and I especially encourage other ministers in govt to emulate Hon. Dora Siliya. Coz she is available ( even on LT sometimes). As for Digga, I propose he becomes govt consultant and I encourage him to write story books. He can make big monies. Digga has some good research skills. Many people have gone to Lumwana Mine and all they can say are things like, “aaah, naumona abasungu efwo bayendelela”, or ” I Iike these container houses, they are fully equipped”. Always praising abasungu even when they are doing wrong things.

  31. Its high tym we all walk we all woke up…..these thugs are telling us that their is development for all to see..bullshit to them. Look at the great south road just here in Makeni, the tar mark is eaten up they are even failing to repair it and they are busy squandering OUR money in the form of the PAYE we contribute. KUYA bebele this time around, lets make sure they do the VAMUS…VIVA PA BWATO…VIVA PA KWANJA……..

  32. Wow! I’m truly humbled. I want to thank all those who nominated me in this very special category. My congratulations and respect also go to Mr. Capitalist and Senior Citizen and in fact to all the other bloggers on LT for without them these awards would not be possible!

May I also say thank you to the LT team for doing a great job in keeping us informed and for allowing me to be a part of the wonderful Lusaka Times community! Thank you and God bless you all!!!

  33. Most contraversial zambian in 2010.

    The nominees are
    1.mathew mohan
    2.mathew mohan
    3.mathew mohan

And the winner is mathew mohan..

  34. ZESCO? I must be dreaming. Zedians out of Zed must have voted for this pathetic outfit.
They should change the name to Pathetic Load Shader and Shitty Engineering Management.

  35. Zesco and Ministry of Education being the best run institutions. It only shows that those most people who voted for these institutions are uninformed regarding the performance of these institutions and do not actually understand metrics that constitute “best performing institution”. If you asked people on the streets who understand what performance is (in terms of fixing the problems) These 2 institutions will rated the worst.
And the context used to rate Dora Siliya as most approacheable is ianappropriate. Dora Siliya should be accessible to people that are very affected by the poor services and unfit-for purpose leadership that her ministry offers. People in Gwembe, Yambezhi, Kapombo, Chilubi, Mambwe, Nambwalya, Shangombo, Mumbwa etc.

  36. [-(

i’m sorry but for me the Badly managed Government Parastatal is ZCCM-IH !

When you know that the total benefits of the mines in zambia is more than 3 billions US $ in the last four years but that in the same time ZCCM-IH with its 15 % in all the mine receive only 28 M US $ dividends !!
    lol

and the GRZ or the ministry of finance never talk about it !!

the Badly managed Government Parastatal and the Worst Government Ministry are ZCCM-Ih and the Ministry of Finance

a lot of money is in mauricius but not for the people of zambia !

  37. LT thumbs up!

As far as I am concerned, this is a first on the Zambian scene, of course I stand to be corrected.

    Keep it up.

  38. the judges ‘ decision is final and no coresspondence shall be netered into. LT dont be intimidated by dissatisfied bloggers. all the winners are to get trophies and Tshirts courtesy of Conman Investements.

  39. yaba, i thought muma nomies ba mushota bala feature since bena scotish. congrats to all, but i woonder if surely tandiwe nao kuti awina award…..

  40. Hello my loved one! I want to say that this post is amazing, great written and include almost all significant infos. I would like to see more posts like this .
