The United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema has condemned the shooting of people in western province.
Mr. Hichilema says it is unfortunate that lives have been lost to matters that government would have avoided.
He has described the shooting incidence as police brutality which should not be allowed to take place in Zambia.
Two people, among them a child, have been killed while several others have sustained gunshot wounds in a confrontation between the police and advocates of the secession of Western Province.
Youths, mostly below the age of 25 years, were involved in the violence that started at around 11:00 hours.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said the youth dared police, saying they were ready to die for a “noble” cause.
They pelted all sorts of objects at the police officers who were later compelled to retaliate and in the process killed one person while several others were injured.
The youth sang and chanted the Barotseland anthem and slogans while daring the paramilitary police officers fully armed and dressed in riot gear.
But Mr. Hichilema says Zambia is under a democratic rule, which does no allow such matters to take place.
He accused president Banda of ruling Zambia as a one party democratic state which should not be the case.
Mr. Hichilema explained to QFM this morning that Zambians should not tolerate a one party state rule in the modern world.
QFM
Where were you to comment now. You thought you would gain political milage out of this but now you have blood in your hands, just keep quiet.
Didnt RB warn the rioters in the first place! Stop cheap politics
HH, you impotent f-ool; it’s hypocritical for you to condemn the police and be quiet about the violent rioters! Those i-diots in Mongu were busy burning private property and were a threat to public security. I do not support the use of live bullets (rubber pellets and tear gas would have been more appropriate) but I have no sympathy for violent i-diots! Barotseland agreement is not RB’s baby, if any of you goons have an issue with it, pls go and stone and burn KK’s house because the old man is the one who screwed you in the first place. KK’s silence on this issue is also sickening; the old chap needs to explain issues so we can all let it rest.
#2, Big pipe, better change your name to big brains. You talk sense. Cheers!
I wonder who the Lozi’s will vote for in the elections. Yesterday was the end of MMD in western province. Milupi will sweep western province. Sata stands to benefit from this chaos because the Lozi’s were not going to vote for him in the first place. Sata is winning this year, no need for a pact now.
The people need to know how many GRZ troops and police were in the town?
The government had been warned of this in advance so why were police not issued with rubber bullets?
Why was Mongu not secured when all the shop owners had an idea it was about to “hit the fan”?
Why have the main players in this not been standing up in public to speak and inform?
H.H has no blood on his hands.
He does not have power to run the security services so Cadre JoJo above is making cheap comments.
Cadre JoJo is it not illegal to hold rallies?
There seem to be no permits issued in 2010 to ANY opposition parties.
Think about that for your dictator democracy run by R.B and G.K
And RB can’t even comment. Shame
#2 MAYBE YOU ARE ALREADY AT MONTOLOZI IN MATERO. HH IS RIGHT, IT’S NO GOOD SHOOTING INNOCENT PEOPLE WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
it is sad that lives were lost in Western province. People should learn to talk to resolve conflicts or misunderstandings. No one person in Zambia is more important than the 12million people put together. Remember that ‘a stitch in time saves nine’.
HH is right. This is a democratic state. people should be allowed to freely express their oponions.
The Barotse agreement doesn’t give them the right to secede. Their concerns may be legitimate but acts of domestic terrorism by the group calling itself the black bulls needs to be quelled and crushed. For the first time i agree with RB’s actions. These terrorists need to be put behind bars for life.
This is a victory for HH and Sata. This province and southern province are now 110% HH and Sata’s territories come elections day. 2 down 6 to go! yeeeh! Now HH and Sata need to move to other provinces and cause similar uphearvals agains MMD. This technic works, continue using it HH and Sata. Way to go boys!
What should be condemned is the use of live bullets by the police but not the actions to ensure peace and tranquility.
Iwe Ka HH, these terrorists were told not to go ahead with their meeting, they did want to listen, if they listened to government, this would have not happened. And they dared police, saying they were ready to die for a “noble” cause, so one died.
No matter what happened police are trained to handle situations like this without bloodshed that why we have court is primitive plice shooting people who have no guns. in other places we have seen worse situation than this not no shooting all this is lack of political will.
simetumes i question the intellegence of RB, he went there when he came back said it was a small problem is the oppostion making it big now today to hear violence and death.
I think RB acted promptly and with the greatest interests of Zambians. He sent paramilitary there in good time and he should be commended for that. Had he not sent police there lots of people would have died especially those who are non-Lozi as that was the aim of that group. Those youths were following what that group influenced them. Its good the police shot some people but it was wrong that they killed someone, they should have used Rubber bullets. The police should be commended for having contained the situation in Western province. Otherwise we would have been talking about a genocide that would have spread to other parts of Zambia. People should have respect of the law no matter what tribe or country of origin that they are or come from.
Piece loving zambians stay away from such things. If policemen when its tough at UNZA they use to retreat while saying”Ifivibana fingakupaye ka ugashe bana namukazi”the policeman runs and hides.Next day,he is safe and taking care of the family whilst others injured. So life is life some of the so-called “noble causes”u need to be real in life.PLS STAY AWAY!pipo can condemn but the dead are gone.killing is part of life and society we have made 4 ourselves. Why make and carry guns if killing is not 1 of the options.More than 12 pipo in TUNISIA ve been killed 4 such things. If 1 is readylet them dare the police.thats their job,to bring order by sometimes killing those deemed to be a menace, whilst others are cought in the cross-fire like children.I REPEAT PIECE LOVING ZAMBIANS STAY AWAY!.
number 14; sometimes not simetumes correction
mr HH on this one you have miss fired. In has much as Zambia is a democratic state does not mean people should be allowed to destroy property in the name of freedom. There are channels to express freedom and thats through a ballot.Lets not encourage stupid behaviour in our country by allowing a few selfish politicians trying to get to plot 1 bring chaos. This BRE thing should not be a debate because actions have clearly shown immaturity and that there are not ready to be a state.Who ever is involved let them face the wrath of the law as on one is above the law.
Killing is part of power.
these same lozis will be in forefront to vote for RB and the MMD, they should not just vote so that RB remains only with my eastern province and be badly defeated.
Its better to live like a lion oneday than a sheep 100days. Big up to the Police. Is HH and Sata going to along separation of Western Province from the rest of the Country? Those Youths were fore warned but continued with breaching peace that this country has enjoyed since independence. RB you are still winning. A man must not fail to act in order to protect peace of the country just because there are elections this year. How then were Sata, HH and The Post going to deal with violent youths who were burning vehicles, rooting and what not?
Fred M’membe – Shame on you. Your today’s Political Editorial stinks.
The government by all means, needs to maintain order and protect its citizen. How dare you now turn around and blame the Security Forces when they went there to maintain order. We know, this is exactly what you want so that Zambia can endure a National Anarchy. Thus, hoping that the present regime will be marshalled out, from power and hence have those that you want to put in State House. Therefore, walk scot-free from your sagas. Sorry Tunisia will not happen in Zambia.
Fred, Zambians are intelligence enough to read between your forehead and chest. You indirectly advocated the current state of affairs and now that there is total havoc on the ground – you have the guts to throw it on the government’s face.
It is a sad day for the youth that was shot. Nevertheless, for you to try to make political swell, really pongs with a bad smell.
No amount of political manipulation and orchestration will lead the whole nation and follow what is happening in Western Province.
I quote and extract from today’s editorial:
“” SO, THEY ARE RESORTING TO ILLEGAL ACTS AND ARBITRARINESS. THIS IS NOT A WAY TO MAINTAIN PEACE IN THE COUNTRY””.
This is not making ILLEGAL ACTS AND ARBITRARINESS but making sure that there is order. What would have happened if the Security Forces did not move in?
We know a lot of damage could have happened and probably more people could have killed each other.
I used to be the strong supporter of Sata later Pact. Its like HH & Sata have run out ideas. RB is busy bringing in FDI, building schools, hospitals, improving agriculture, tourism etc. Sata & HH have resorted to attack RB in everything. They are so desperate such that they are supporting BRE. Thanks to Edward Mumbi for exposing Sata. He is now quiet.HH as a leader instead of offering a solution is busy condenming the efficient police. Please guys give us a break we are not interested in your cheap and fake politics.
Countrymen let us be serious about issues and calling the Lozi poeple *****s will not solve anything. Its true Zambia is unitary state as said by some people. The whole truth was not told to us that is why we arguing over the Agreement. The Lozis are not wrong at all. When Mugabe was trying to grab land from the white settlers everybody thought he was a fool yet he was just following up on what was agreed with the Britons. KK stood up explained to the nations and supported the Mugabe claim. Unfortunately he has remained silent for the same kind of couse in his backyard.\:d/
patriotic zambian ulicchipuba iwe chikkala ikafwa nempepo ukakwine ku Russia.
plus nama late bc supporting mmd, i heard na bc tamufola bwangu but rb is busy flying.
I blame, catholics, SATA, HH and the Post 4 suporting thses people remember where this came from? irresponssible reporting , it was Fr. Duffy and these pipo were causing uprising and see now what has happened.
Pliz Zambians lets not allow these people to divide us,
I fail to understand why HH who at one time my role model could think so low, surely how many people would have died if the man had set ablaz the filling station. I know u want to win mileage but lets be responsible especilly in matters such as these lets find means to the problem condemning will not help us
#8, Our research students have revealed that even in democratic Western societies, police have no choice, but to shoot live bullets when offenders refuse to heed warning and threaten them. It is sad that lives have been lost. Some of you are condemning the police, why not condemn the stone throwers who killed an innocent baby? HH has lost it. He may gain some votes from WP, but he’ll lose big time in some other provinces. The same goes for the Cobra. GRZ, no dialogue with these kamponyas. Lock them up and then release them after many years. One Zambia One Nation.
As for HH, please realise that Zambia is not run like a One Party Democratic State. If it were, your party would not exist today. So stop making Political Spin Doctoring for a cheap steak-meat on the plate
HH you have been oblivious and avoided this subject for some time. One would have expected you to strongly come out and condemn these Mafioso’s in Western Province. Now that they damage has been done, you want to come out, try to champion your hidden wisdom to appear noble in the face of the nation. These type of politics will not help you to State House. I believe you can do better than that. Yes, we know Western Province is your hunting ground but as a leader, you must act and rise above every politics.
This is the time for all political leaders to have a unified voice on the matter in Western Province and not scheming potential pluses.
INONGE WINA – this is your back-yard, speak out and stop being used by Michael Sata. We may not be Lozi speaking people but we care about our brothers and sisters.
hh shud just shut up. he’s acting as if he was sitting on his ears when these ppl were threatening violence against non-lozis. is this his idea of democracy, this castrated tonga bull? and he shudnt talk about one partism. its their incompetent campaign strategies that make the opposition lose everytime! ive said it before and i’ll say it again.PACT- get-off your a$$es and go and campaign in the rural areas. thats where 60% of zambians are. keep this up and muzalila maibabe come election day!
HH is right shooting pipo any how was not good.certain issues should be discussed responsibly as country men and women.
30 & 31 INDEPENDENT OBSERVER:
You know so much about Fred Mmembe’s dirty laundry and the Finance Bank fraudulent – You are probable the only Zambian I know that has made Millions of £££ working as a City Equity Trader in a top UK Investment Bank and gets bonuses in millions of £££ and a shrewd business person
Why don’t you set up a new Independent Newspaper in Zambia – I think its about time Zambia had a centre ground News Paper- I have noted you have often condemned all political leaders when they have made mistakes RB, SATA & HH in most of your blogs – Zambia needs a NONE comprised media. – Don’t worry; I will not reveal your name, though I know you must be around 41-43 years. Please keep posting your comments…tell us what you know more…:))
too bad for the guy who got shot am sure he had no clue to why he was rioting……HH is a fool….RB warned these fools the shud go complain bout the agreement to KK.
why is it that they complain the loudest when general elections are around the corner?these lozi *****s are being used by the opposition… the guy who has lost his life will soon be forgotten and the politicians will continue with their lives.
Ba HH has spoken so all you lesser mortals shut up. Hehehe hihihi.
INDEPENDENT OBSERVER, I recommend that you take over UPND. That party is headless as it is now, under HH.
Let’s have at least one sensible opposition party and a more balanced independent daily paper, we are fed up of the Post..
Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, you signed this agreement, Please address the nation on the matter before you die, no one lives forever and you are in your 80’s, dont leave this nation divided after your 27 years rule of ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. We beg you Mr President please clear the air on the matter, lives are already lost in Mongu we dont want anymore to die.
# 37 i hope the independent observer is Tonga cause UPND is a Tonga political party.
ZP Service yesterday you served the nation with distinction. Imasiku Mutangelwa must be dumped in Mkobeko Maximum prison on treason charge for his insurgence against the republic of Zambia. We pardoned him last time but not this time. Now systematically go for and bud out all their sponsors and accomplices while GRZ engages the Litunga, his kuta and the BRE on fundamental issues of common good..
Bravo!!
Dear HH please just keep quiet and keep kissing Sata’s a……
HH u r dalu…fail na nzelu…shud u & Sata ever rule u wil appreciat our security wings hav 2 do what ever it takes 2 safe guard great Zed…the villagers were tired of living…
Poor HH has lost it; would you expect the Tories to slug a Labour government for trying to quell the troubles in Northern Ireland? When it comes to issues of national security, you close ranks. If you want to win votes, please offer a solution. We don’t want anarchy back home – we’ve just started investing and do not want the green shoots of recovery to be trampled on.

However, who knows, I might investment into a News Print one day. Business is about finding talented people that can work to achieve one common goal.

We should understand the underlying causes of the confusion in Western Zambia, smaller isolated events like what happened in Mongu may ignite into levels where the country will fail to contain. if the govt allowed the meeting to call ahead with police protection to ensure no voilence took place all this mess would not have taken place, lets share national cake properly, every zambian deserves better, the govt should be ashamed coz, they thought by cancelling the meeting people will not respond, alas, they were caught pants down. while need peace in the country. those in leadership should face reality and call a spade a spade.

You can kill the messenger, but you cannot kill the message!
It’s good the police managed them well, these small bulls thought would go anywhere, I wish the police could go for Mutangelwa’s family.

RIOTS:
If RB had sent in the Security Forces two weeks ago, he was going to be accused of Suppressing & Curbing the people from Freedom of Speech by the same people that are condemning him.
Now that riots have erupted and Security Forces have gone to control rebellion, they have changed the tone and accused him of wanting to hang to power.
The Post & HH have criticised the government but none has come up with an alternative way on how this could have been avoided
DEVELOPMENT
As for development, RB has made many efforts to bring in investors having just served for 2 years. Naturally, as human beings we are not patient. We seem to want change happen overnight. Mind you, no one is perfect, just like every one of us is susceptible to making bad decisions.
If you invest £100,000 into Equities, Bonds or any Credit Derivates on the Stock Market, do not expect to make 25% in Short term or Long Term returns.
So most of these development programs MMD have started will yield fruits after 2-3 years
Development starts in Families, then Communities and goes on the National Level. Any person that fails to handle/manage his or her family is likely not able to contribute to any Community Development. Moreover, any person that cannot give back to any community will probably not give much on a National Development Platform. Just like if one cannot be trusted with £5 then forget about £50.
Therefore, it is the duty for every Zambian to contribute if you have been given an opportunity. Zambia needs the Private Sector to develop
The opposition have no erstwhile plans or how things should be done, but are quick to condemn.
Better to criticise with a Backup-plan. No one from the opposition has ever had an Alternative Budget to challenge the Finance Minister. It is really a joke.!!
Sometimes it boils down to Bad Ministers that are not passionate to help the nation move forward. They expect the president to answer everything on their behalf
If I were a President, I would give all Ministers just Land Rovers. I live in North London and use the same public transport with my local MP and top Government officials’ going into Central London for work

What does HH mean when he says Zambia is a one party state. Does he feel he is partly in MMD?
INDEPENDENT OBSERVER
I do not agree with your observation about the opposition in Zambia. The problem is not that the opposition, especially UPND, has no alternative plans, the problem is that the media deliberately down play important issues and concentrate on mediocracy issues. These are the issues that capture people’s attention and deviates their minds from real issues. That explains why the likes of Sata are soo popular.
HH addressed the BA issue at the very begining when it popped up by advising the govt to engage the people advocating for the BA and find an amicable solution. The govt ignored that advise and decided to be confrontational instead so how can you blame him for his comments above? Could the police have handled the rioters in a better way than killing? Yes!
cont from #64: Look at how the UK police were condemned for killing a suspected terrorist in 2007 and you will understand how civilised people handle such issues. The police could have used rubber bullets to disable the rioter who was accused of planning to set ablaze a petrol station. Why should Zambians accept such a s.t.u.p.i.d explanation from a home affairs minister for losing an innocent life? Looking at the comments above I now understand why we are backwards!
#65 Govt is currently engaged in talks with the BRE. These people knew that the gathering was illegal and actually wanted to depose the Litunga. There are reports which claim that Mutangelwa is somebody who failed in his bid to become the Litunga. Why should govt act kindly towards people who wish to commit ethnic cleansing and genocide. The riot happened yesterday. We have yet to get a full picture as to what really occurred. It is therefore somewhat premature for HH to be claiming that the police acted in a brutal manner when dealing with an illegal demonstration or riot. HH should be trying to calm things down not pour more fuel on a fire that is already burning.

Thanks Big Pipe at #2. When is this country going to have honest politicians? What do you think the police buy bullets for? It is to challenge equal force. The same HH would have been condemning the govt if a policeman with rubber bullets had been murdered by this rioutous mob. I am extremely disgusted with the silence coming from KK and FTJ. Levy too conveniently failed to give the country a constitution let alone guide us on the BA64. Why cant KK, FTJ, Grey Zulu, Sikota Wina The Litunga, Attorney General, Roger Chongwe and the old Madalas that understand the BA64 come on ZNBC TV and tell the country what really happened? Let us rise above petty and childish politics and resolve national crises as one. The opposition is always looking to score political mileage! HH grow up.

#66: My point is that the police must only use live ammunition on unarmed civilians only as a last resort and only in situations were other means of policing are not possible. In this particular incident the police could have disabled the victim by using rubber bullets.
As an opposition leader HH is well within his right to criticise the govt for using excessive force. Using live ammunition against unarmed protesters can force them to use armed tactics to defend themselves next time. This is how wars start. Moreover, those protesters have a right to protest whether the govt agrees with them or not and it is dictatorial of the MMD govt to stop them. Choking peoples means of expressing themselves can lead to explosive situations as witnessed in Mongu.
dont be surprised if he black bulls get guns for the nxt time,MMD and RB s fault and only fools can spport them
Those Blackbulls are terrorists. Only people with terrorist mentalities would support them. If you have experienced the effects of terrorism, you would commend the actions of the police. I experienced it in the 1998 Nairobi bombings in Kenya it is not a pleasant experience. Zambians it is time for us to unite and fight against terrorism. Barotse Agreement can only be solved by dialogue and not terrorism. Imwe the wrong Lozi, we are tired of your tribalism in places of work and institutions and why do you behave like that. Are u the only tribe in Zambia who are special. If only your king was a collaborator of colonialism because he willlingly asked for British protection. Check Lochner Treaty, Lawley Treaty & Coryndon Treaty. Are u proud of that history? let’s be one Zambia.:((:((
64# Zed Patriot
I have always appreciated your contributions and we need good thinking Zambians like you on this blog. However, I disagree with you.
Things have gone beyond BRE. We are now dealing with Thugs who have hijacked the whole subject. I believe BRE is not about killing people, advocating and chasing away those that are not Lozi speaking people.
We know Western Province has become a battleground and everyone is playing including MMD, PF & UPND. Nevertheless, MMD as a sitting government had to take measures in sending to these thugs.
I still believe that HH has been lukewarm on this subject because he has an upper hand on the electoral base in Western Province judging from his past performance. That is just politics for 2011 Elections.
Cont…from 73
So I agree with #65 Chomba Malaila. The government is engaged with BRE stake holders and they should be given the opportunity to explore how this can be put to dust
no 45 Independent observer that is same issue that bothers me. I have been wanting to set up a newspaper that is truly independent but could not find the funds. Its not so expensive but you need a good printing press as an absolute then after that just be professional. my idea is to do a newspaper not only in english but have a section in nyanja, bemba, tonga, and lozi which are really the main local languages that most people can read in Zambia
On “The United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema has condemned the shooting of people [and killing of someone by the Zambia Police (so-called ZP Service) Police Officers] in western province… says it is unfortunate that lives have been lost to matters that [the RB Banda Administration of] government [of the Republic of Zambia] would have avoided [had they taken heed of UPND/HH’s advice that he gave earlier on]” I salute president HH on his leadership over advancing dialogue in Zambia especially over the PACT’s unity in an effort to dislodge the failures MMD from continued ruling of Zambia.
First we had the Black Mamba when Chiluba was President and now we have the Black Bulls when Chiluba is MMD’s political consultant…
#73: INDEPENDENT OBSERVER
Let me make it clear that I do not support the group that is advocating for ethnic cleansing by chasing away non lozis from Western Province. I believe this group hijacked a genuine protest by the majority of Westerners who wanted to air their voices on the BA64 issue. As is the case where ever there are protests there are always some extremists and it will be wrong for us to judge all BA64 protesters as advocates of chasing non lozis. With this in mind it is my view that the govt/police were wrong to cancel the meeting. They could have allowed them to have the meeting and that way they could have identified the advocates of ethnic cleansing.
If RB and his minions do not take the necessary precautionary measures before the tripartite elections in order to have a level political field then what has happened to Tunisia is coming to our nation. Enough is enough of corrupt people and promoters of one political party system.Viva those that read and are well informed of what is happening in the world.
cont. from #77: the problem with our police force is that they still use colonial methods of policing and the use of excessive force including live ammo and beatings are part of their policing methods. This is wrong and this is what I condemn regardless of the kind of offenders they are dealing with. Our policing need to change with time. Sending a strong messege should not involve shooting to kill unarmed civillians even in situations were they could have neutralised them by using rubber bullets or water cannons. The police could have been justified to use live ammunition if the protsters were armed.
57 INDEPENDENT OBSERVER, your “Development starts in Families, then Communities and goes on the National Level. Any person that fails to handle/manage his or her family is likely not able to contribute to any Community Development. Moreover, any person that cannot give back to any community will probably not give much on a National Development Platform. Just like if one cannot be trusted with £5 then forget about £50” has made my day and how I hope PF/serpentine Sata MC’s supporters will read and understand the insight in your above posting.
On the thread, I believe Zambians across the country especially Bembas who promised to vote for UPND’s HH in the 2011 elections will honour their promise so that HH, a family manager, becomes Zambian President this year 2011…
75 THE TRUTH
Your idea of having News Printed in local languages is a Fantastic and Very Inspiring. Zambia needs visionary thinking like yours.
We have many Zambians that cannot read or write in English. So they don’t get to know what is in the Press but get misleading information through eavesdrop, which in most cases gets twisted and amplified after passing through many mouths and ears.
Morden Print News Rooms can be confined to a small office radius space, because technology has become smart.
For example, yesterday a friend of mine phoned 3 relatives in Mongu from London to check what is on the ground. He got 3 different stories on this subject matter of the gun shooting
these bloody chaps are no match for our security wings….well done ZP you guys need a pat on the back…we cant be having groups of pipo claiming different parts of our country…what next? the tonga’s will want southern province for themselves…..these guys need to be hanged!
I just hope we are not now witnessing the genesis of a protracted rebellion by the BFM . The strong conviction displayed by these youths gives the impression that they wouldn’t hesitate to take up arms if they had the means.
The president visited this area quite recently and declared all was peaceful . This is turning out not to be the case.
H.H has said nothing wrong in my view. I understand him to be saying that where you have democratic rule , then the shooting to death of people by the police does not go with such type of rule. It should never have to happen.
why is that Dora,Lungu and Jere are the ones in command and engineering this massacre without any mercy but with great satanic zeal?Earsterners, why???????????

Hmm it will not help you Sata haters. Sata has not prevented your under five HH to be president of Zambia. Under five HH knows that even in this years elections he will be number 3. And if you UPND guys are not carefull this will be the end of your party.
You hate Sata but you want him to give you his party…oh how stu.pidy some people can be.
Let your under five HH go it alone in this years elections so we see what number he will come…if not # 3. Why should you always cry like kids. Sata has his own Party and your under five privatization thief HH has his.
So mind your business guys.
NONSENSE.

In that, case we are both aligned on the same code.
From he time Charles Milupi got clobbered, I believe the government had intelligence or the know that certain culprits had been planning to seize the opportunity and cause havoc.
And yes, allowing these people to have their meeting was going to give Zambia the chance to understand their motives – but then again the government is already in talks with some elements from BRE.
I hope the lozis in Western Province have learnt a lesson. Stop voting for the MMD. What is happening in Western Province is an issue of poverty and hopelesseness among youths. Instead of addressing the cause, Rupiah Banda`s governemnt is shooting unarmed hungry youths.
HH please can you cut your hair to start with ,if your head looks that i wonder how your… looks like someone needs balangizi here indeed.Shallow thinker under five boy .These words you are uttering will haunt you my boy .My glad you are now an MMD cadre by your own admission that Zambia is a one party state country meaning there is no foolish pacts whatever you call them. This confusion is squarely a master plan of the katolikas ,Post shinda pepa with there Fred Mmeembe as the vuvuzela and Satana been the head.Kwena aba Lozi you just have a problem.I wonder why you want to always be special silly tribalist. This behaviour is the same as the the Lozis in Capri Strip in Nambia they once caused havoc and the government acted decisively rooted out the trouble makers at once .Post Wankers you.
People do talk a lot of tosh police brutality took place here. Let’s face it its not correct to use live bullets we are all Zambians. Black Bulls government formed like Black Mamba don’t forget the main political consultant is FtJ Chiluba. For those not in the know KK is not going to comment as long as RB has Chiluba in his team.

U think HH is right we could have avoided these killings what has our intelligence service been doing? We could have and should have picked the ring leaders ages ago.
GRZ wipe these Lozi bulls, even their supporters like Kaluwe and Mutangelwa who are resting in their chairs just sending others to die for them, these ma so called Lozi prince Mwebantu. Wake up guys these people just want to use you period, if they want to fight let them send their children and families first.
I don’t care too much for the MMD. But when it comes to law and order, I’d give them kudos over this one than say, the Opposition. What is going on in the Western Province is a recipe for civil war. The U.N. does not have a good track record of resolving civil wars (especially on the African continent) in good enough time. May be Zambians are taking peace for granted. It will be after millions have lost their lives before any international body steps in with any resolve. If the MMD hadn’t stepped in the way they did, they’d be accused today of not caring and providing weak leadership. There have to be consequences for lawlessness and people were warned. By the way, can the opposition tell us what they could have done? If it’s any different, I wouldn’t give them my vote.
As I said above, I’m tired of the MMD’s antics but I’m getting to be quite suspicious of the Opposition over this matter.
Iwe ka HH YOU TRIBALIST, STOP SUPPORTING YOUR CRIMINAL LOZI COUNSINS. THE POLICE DID A SUPERB JOB, THEY WARNED THOSE BANDITS OF WHAT WAS COMING. AND IF YOU SUPPORT THAT SECETION NONSENSE COME OUT AND SAY IT IN THE OPEN.
Government should be comended for job while done. These Black Bulls meant realy chaos and any slip in government response could have resulted in more death of non Lozis. These BB meant bussiness and zed could have been another Rwanda. Thanks to RB and gov for giving direction under difficult conditions. Mbuya na mubomba bwino sana sana.
all you stupid creatures saying the government had warned about this are facked up! No man on earth deserves to die or being killed. RB is going to end up like sudam Hussen killing people is not acceptable at all plus what if that was ur mother you who are saying no sense. RB needs to be arrested for the killings. whoever gets in power should rise this up on him. everyone whose complaining go fack urselves.
Can someone explain to me what should have been done to stop the youths from burning private property apart from shooting one person. In force this is what we call…….After they saw one of them die they stopped fighting. HH tell us you would do if you well in office what there are people threatening piece in the country.
Wow…this is so interesting and disappointing. I feel bad for the brother who lost his life for something that was avoidable. RB what is wrong with you too? Have you lost your freaking mind? Wait, one day you will be out of office and guess what? Someone will be in to get you, one way or the other.
I never thought H.H would play this game too! Please H.H do not be or paint yourself as a educated fool. You are smart and can do better than that. Put tribe aside, unite the people and run for office.
This nonsense of the Barotseland agreement and wanting to separate now it is bullshit. Haven’t you learnt from history? Look at all the African countries that tried that before, and ask yourself were they are today in terms of development. We need each other and we need to keep the…

Opportunism on Mr. Hichilema’s part. He was mute on the Barotse agreement issue only to come speak up at the most opportune time. Here are the facts, the Zambia Police have a duty to protect the citizenry of the nation. That means at times, appropriate action is needed to ensure the safety of many.
It is sad that someone lost a life and that the ZP used live ammunition on unarmed citizenry but the citizens had to be protected. The people who organized the civil disobedience were threatening the lives of non-Lozi citizenry. Where we to assume that they were going to be un-armed. I do not support killing but I support the ZP for action taken needed to keep the greater citizenry safe.
#s 99 & 101: if you bothered to follow current affairs in Zambia you would have know that HH had spoken a number of times in the past on the issue of BA64. He advised govt to dialogue with the proponents of the BA64 and address the underlying issue of poverty in WP. RB instead chose to be confrontational & bully the the BA64 proponents. As long as govt continue ignoring the cause of the protests & refuse to dialogue with the groups championing the BA64 issue no amount of force will surppress the protesters and believe me they will even gain more support & momentum.
RB has not handled WP politics well and the anger there stems from his(RB) failure to keep his 2008 election promises. Remember this is the same RB who told them that he did not ask 4 their votes!
I would like to find out if the young boy from imwiko primary school who was shot at was also riotious? Can someone tell me if this under ten year old boy deserved being shot at with live ammunition!
# 103,
If he was found to be an arsonist against public and private properties in this case a gas station, police deserves applause from every peace loving citizen. They acted in best national and public interest by taking down an arsonist.
By 20:00hrs on Friday, Mongu General Hospital had received 2 dead bodies of adult males, one 11 year old boy with bullet wounds, and 8 other adults with bullet penetrating wounds ( according to a friend of mine who was in the ER at that time).
As sad as this may be, such terrorism needs maximum force to be dealt with. Who said in democracy people who terrorise and plan to kill orthers are not supposed to be killed? A man in USA was shot dead by the Deputy Sherrif because he was beating his mother, and had locked the door (they could have easily broken the door).
All of us blogging here were not on the ground to say the Police acted irrationally, it’s simply naive to ignore the consequences of not putting such rebellion to an end. HH is simply showing how absurd he is. Well done ZP.
@ #102 Zed Patriot
The BRE made a submission to the NCC towards the same Barotse Agreement. As far as I know, the constitution has not even gone to the referendum stage yet so it is unclear whether the Barotse Agreement will be included or not. To state President Rupiah Banda bullied BA64 proponents is politicking on your part.
These guys are terrorists who did not want to dialogue. They even went as far as threatening genocide on non-Lozi citizenry in WP, surely you have not forgotten about this. Asking for dialogue from such people is tantamount to asking the US to dialogue with Osama bin Laden. You don’t dialogue with a terrorist organization. Those guys who caused a fracas in WP are home grown terrorists who threatened the lives of innocent citizenry.
those of you condemning HH are so ignorant..where have you been not to have heard him say something very positive and a solution towards this problem before even sata incited the Lozis..HH told this government that these ,all that these people need is develeopment kwahae..not sta who is cheating them..HH is the man..viva mr.President..
“No government should engage in a situation like this in this manner. The complaint which people in Western Province are putting forward is because of poverty and neglect of the province. There are no factories, no jobs. When people leave schools, they have nothing to do. Mr. Rupiah Banda and his ministers that come from Western Province have blood on their hands and they have to do something to wash off this blood.”
Gen Masheke wondered how MMD Parliamentarians from the province would face the people whose children were being killed. He said it was not a question of cessation of Western Province, but people were expressing anger at the situation in the area.
“Barotseland Agreement does not talk of cessation. People in Western Province have been the most humble since independence…
With all this nonsense coming from the MMD RB Administration and the proponents of the restoration of the BA1964, I now think that Western Province has a lot of natural resources apart from sand that can make that part of our Zambia to be highly developed and its effects can trickle down to the rest of Zambia if a concerned leadership of HH/UPND is voted for to form GRZ Administration in this year’s presidential elections.
It can not be surprising that Western Province could have Diamonds also like Botswana, Namibia and Angola and those that are frustrating the exploration of such a mineral in that part of Zambia could be doing this deliberately to avoid developing Western Province indirectly.
Zambia needs the honest leadership of Falizoho ndate of UPND.

# there is no justification for killing pipo…RUpi and gvt want to silence the lozi by waiting for the situation to deteriorate and then use live bullets to scare them. HH is ryt. that boy could have been shot in the leg than target the head. DONCHI KUBEBE..WE ARE VOTING THEM OUCHI
#103, where are your ears and other learning faculties? It has been stated countless times that when violence erupts it is the innocent women and children who suffer the most. Nobody went out to kill that innocent child, sensible people and sensible leaders abhor violence. Wherever there is vilolence there is what the Americans call “collateral” damage, sorry to use that word I do not mean to be insensitive. I hope that you now see the consequences of violence, and stop being used by selfish politicians sitting comfortably in Lusaka enjoying their tea and cakes.
As for Mr Hikainde, forgive him, his mother Mr Sata has been too busy to take him to the underfive clinic.
there is absolutely no need to kill your citizens over a simple issue. The police’s riotus behaviour is annoying a lot of people and there will be a price to pay for this. The MMD govt has no iota of brains to deal with this issue. Vote these bustards out this year.
This is the end of MMD in Western province-RB will definately peform very badly in this part of the country come election day as the opposition will exploit this incident to the fullest. No form of ringing will rescue MMD.
#106 Mr. Capitalist – 3 E’s steering economic growth
The known groups advocating for the implementation of the BA64 did not call for genocide nor did they call for ethnic cleansing of non lozis. As far as we all know these were just allegetions made by the state, that they are groups advocating for chasing of non lozis and that the state is trying to identify who thay are. We should also be mindful of the fact that the state could have planted such people(advocates of violence & ethnic cleansing) in order to find an excuse to suppress the movement calling for the restoration of the BA64.
We all know that MMD/RB is arrogant and usually do not embrace dissenting views and from the very begining they made it clear that they would not negotiate with those calling for the restoration of…
HH IS A VERY NAIVE POLITICIAN. EVER HEARD OF JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE
It would be stuppityyy and ideoticccc to blame HH OR SATA FOR THIS… rb and his police gangs are the chief culprits… now you will only win in Eastern province and your one dora siliya!.. you will be sentenced to prison with hard labour or death after the elections… SHAME ON YOU THE SHTYYY mmd.
The MMD and Bwezani have a very cunning was of shooting themselves in the foot. If Banda and his MPs get a single vote from Western province he will be very lucky. This has just gone a long way playing into Sata’s hands, he will win this time around. I mean, Tongas will always vote Hakainde, that’s the South gone. Kavindele will be barred from running for MMD veep, that’s North-Western gone. Lusaka, Central and Copperbelt plus Northern are Sata strongholds and he will no doubt make a spirited run in Luapula too. One does not need to be a prophet to see that Banda is doomed. They better start preparing for life abroad as refugees.
RB’s govt has not shown leadership on any issue including the BAROTSE AGREEMENT the buck stops with this incompetent man who we should send packing when we vote later this year.
#118, so western province will vote for Sata? I hope he does not implement his 1996 resolution on them, good luck.
I read the comments about this issue with a lot of disgust at the way we do not objectively look at important issues in zed. The lozi’s have experienced inadequate development and poor leadership from UNIP and MMD, and thus I feel they are justified to call for their own leadership. Why cant we just make Zambia a federal state, let each province govern itself, as it is evedenced that this current system has failed. Those who vote for the MMD lik the bembas should govern themselbes under MMD leqadership. Southern pronvince would be the most fortunate under UPND and HH’s leadership. All those supporting the govt and police for a good job well done muli fisushi, below par thinkers and rotten i.d.i.o.t.s.!!!
ZP did a good job to protect peoples lives in Mongu. Imagine if that arsonist was not gunned down, what would have happened? The loss of life is regrettable, but that helped to save many more lives.
HH’s position will go down in history as one from a seriously naive politician hoping to gain political leverage in opportunistic statements. Clearly, HH given to be under Sata will be trashed and ignored with impunity seeing the level of his naivety. I really wonder how HH ended up in this kind of a mess.
Wanyawanya,
So you are saying other Provinces are deliberately favoured against the Lozis? Are you saying other Provinces are given more attention that Western Province?
The baroste agreement has NO option of seceeding. So no one should thing along that route. But the complainst in Western Province are genuine. They have been a thousands of people born since 1964 in the province. Look at the Industries there???? itually non existance, hence a mob of angry citizens who have never known formal employement nor industries. This is the group that is agitated. I know Zambia is a very big under-developed country but in Western province we havent tapped into fishing industy and mining to improve the infrastructure and well being of citizens there. Even agricultural potential potential is missed.
IF WE DO NOT LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER– WE SHALL DIE TOGETHER AS FOOLS
@23 Peace- These are the people who foolishly vote for MMD, whilst inviting their relatives from Congo to join them. Is not suprising that they have noting and yet they vote for ifipuba?
VIVA MMD RB!!!!!!!!!!!
#s 49 &50 you are a real octopus…..
