The Leadership in Development (LID) and the Association of Zambian Small-Scale Farmers Network (AZSSFN) has expressed disappointment with Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata’s ingratitude over Government’s evacuation of his wife to South Africa for specialist treatment.
And LID has also castigated Mr Sata for attacking Vice-President George Kunda during his public rally in Lusaka’s Matero Township on Sunday.
LID executive director Moses Kalonde said it was becoming Mr Sata’s habit to politicise Government’s good intentions to him and his family.
“This is not the first time Mr Sata has shown the ingratitude of this magnitude . You will recall that Mr Sata was reportedly saying that his evacuation by the late president Levy Mwanawasa to South Africa was a public relations gimmick by Government.
“And again instead of just appreciating what the Government did for his wife he is busy politicking on the issue,” he said.
Mr Kalonde said the PF leader was once minister of Health but that there was nothing he did to improve the sector.
He said contrary to Mr Sata’s attacks on President Rupiah Banda and the Government, the current Head of State was working to improve healthcare delivery in Zambia.
“Like President Banda has said, Mr Sata was once Health minister and what does he have to show for it? We have seen what the current Government of President Banda is doing, we have seen a number of new hospitals and clinics being built across the country,” he said.
He said his organisation was disappointed with Mr Sata’s level of ingratitude.
AZSSFN president Boyd Lyambai said President Banda’s Government had improved health delivery in Zambia and it was unfair for the PF leader to attack it.
“We think that President Banda showed leadership and statesmanship to have evacuated Mrs Sata to South Africa and it is unfortunate that he is now politicising the issue,” he said.
Mr Lyambai said the Government had built a number of hospitals and health centres across Zambia to provide quality healthcare.
Public Health Partnerships Forum spokesperson Isaac Kaputula said the Government had undertaken a number of initiatives to improve healthcare in Zambia.
“It is unfair for anyone to criticise the Government, we have seen what they have done in improving healthcare delivery in Zambia,” he said.

WAS SATA TRULLY UNGRATEFUL? WAS IT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO JUST STICK TO THE SUBJECT OF HIS WIFE’S EVACUATION AND CHALLENGES IN HEALTH SECTOR? WHY DID HE USE THAT CHANCE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ELECTION MALPRACTICISES? COULD IT BE THAT RB WOULD NEVER HAVE GIVEN HIM A PLATFORM TO AIR HIS VIEWS? WAS IT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ELECTION MALPRACTICES IN ANOTHER LETTER RATHER THAN THE ONE TALKING ABOUT HIS WIFE’S HEALTH? WHAT DOES THIS TEACH US ABOUT BOTH RB AND SATA?
Mr. Sata thanked governmet for evacuating his wife and went on bemourn the sad state of affairs where only selected individuals have the privilige of being evacuated. Just because his wife was given the privilage he has not been compromised and still has the plight of the majority of Zambian we fo not have access to be evacuated.
Indeed he is a genuine leader who has a heart for poor Zambians, that is why he emplored RB to invest more in equipment and staffing in the health sector, and he surely thanked RB. Where is the ungratefulness here?
Constructing a hospital is different from maning it well. some of our hospitals are white elephants, I think development should be seen in services that are rendered dispite of the color, size and shape of the hospital. Sata thanked mr Herb in his letter for the help rendered to his wife and wished it could be done to all citizens. I do not see sata “politiking” as you call it, because he wrote to rb as a private letter without cc’s and rb wrote back with cc’s to many departments. so then who is “politiking”? you people learn to critic with objective eye. Am not PF,MMD, UNIP, UPND etc, but I see more sense in the letter of sata than that of mr herb.
Imwe ba kolwe Sata said thanks to HERB but added that much as he was lucky to afforded the special treatment, he would like to see all Zambians have access to this treatment. He said this could only be achieved by only upgrading our health facilities. Imwe bakolwe, it appears that as long as you have something the other people dont matter. That is why you have so many house break ins in Zambia. It is this attitude of wanting the to be the only which causes most crimes in out country. Change your attitude bu kolwe.
What is LID kanshi? John Phiri and Mirriam Ntheye Zimba (Times), you only have nine months to clean up your act, otherwise mwayamwe.
#2,3 and 4, its sad if your wise observations will continue to fall on deaf ears. Very soon the guilty and insecure HERB will start mistaking Sata’s greetings for an insult.
As a health worker myself, I see Sata more genuinely concerned about the welfare of all Zambians’ health than HERB Banda. What Sata said is true, because even health workers die here because they can’t access specialist treatment abroad, which is a preserve of a priviledge few. I don’t see anything wrong with Sata asking Govt through HERB to invest in the Health sector and improve service delivery, instead fo flying around anyhow.
Sata performed better in the MoH than any of the Health Professionals who have been Ministers, who have have been biased towards one cadre, MOs, at the expense of flustrating other professionals. Sata never paraded nurses giving them uniforms, transport in the Ministry improved under Sata. JUST INVEST IN HEALTH SECTOR. SHAME ON US……………..
And where are these small briefcase NGOs making noise coming from? Times of Zambia is Pathetic when it comes to news items, and insulting to Zambians. George Kunda is busy campaigning at the expense of devfelopment, busy insulting Sata, and inciting people to hate Sata, what kind of leadership is this? If they are performing, let their actions speak. Infact, Sata didn’t even need to thank RB, he Govt has a responsibilty to take care of everyone’s health needs, it’s not a priviledge, but a right. He is humble enough to thank RB.
Stupid NGOs, it’s very annoying
Am not a fun of Sata but on this one he appreciated the GOVT for the support
Sata has done nothing wrong in this regard. He is only showing clearly that the same as was done for his dear wife should and has to be done for the masses by improving the hospitals and manning them well. I wonder who advises HERB…
Whats wrong with HERB? who advises this man? rb?
This is just so shameful of these LID human beings….and Small Scale farmers of all people should fall for this cheap politicking? Those small scale farmers die from malaria because there are no drugs in hospitals in some cases. Let that LID man get a heart attack and see what will happen to him…! Condemnation should have meaning. Sata said thanks for your help, but also spoke on behalf of this blind LID and Small Scale farmer chaps by stressing the challengees our health sector is facing. Even if you hate Sata and you support MMD, sometimes it is better to keep quiet – especially if you support pro-poor policies – let those who have the courage to speak on behalf of the poor do so freely. Dont divert our attention becos u want favours from government!!!
What is this LID dekeselo? It is the LID that covers the em em DEE corrupted pot…tu ntemba Nothing Going Ons (NGO)And farmers have also engaged themselves in this…shut the f#@k up and go and cultivate the land or else we’ll have no food this year.
useless NGOs come on u mean u cnt tok onbhlf othrs..
Come on in, its Great in Zambia!
No.2 what has sata achieved in terms providing for the poor! Sata was in UNIPand MMD, he used his position as governor and minister of local government to acquire the houses for his vast estate business. He used his influence to buy a lot national housing authority houses and put the poor professional zambians at a disadvantage. If he is a good leader you think he is ,why are the shanti compounds still existing! If he cared about the poor people he would have used his positions in government to build low cost tower blocks for the poor in all towns.. Even Banda has not done enough for the poor. I will respect him the moment he bulids low cost housing for poor . Through construction of low cost housing, thousands of jobs will be created through out Zambia.
Be warned Sata has all the traits of a dictator!
16. Jeff – If Sata had abused his positions as you have stated, his sworn enemy Levy (RIP), would have had him locked uo, he tried very hard but failed. Rich Sakala who commited the offences you are accusing Sata off got sentenced, if Sata was guilty, he would not have been acquited.
You obviosly dont know how government operates no wonder you ask why shatis still exist. The Ministry is not given unlimited amounts of money to spend but have budget allocations to work with and have to operate withing these limits, I am shocked you dont seem to know this simple mode of operation, but….
Every Zambian know how under Sata the ministry of local governemt embark on the Merzaf (low cost), but very decent housing project. They are there for all to see. Too bad Bennie Mwinga…
What Moses Kalonde’s attack on Sata being ungrateful to RB for evacuatingg his wife to RSA has got to do with Health Delivery System in Zambia. Its not the first time Sata and his family are being assisted by RB. I recall when his grand daughter died Sata told Henry Banda to go tell his father that he did no hate him but were friends and their differences were not personal but political. So whatever Sata talks against RB is mere politiking in public but in private they are good bed fellows. These guys holding BIG political positions and those prominent in in business and social circles are knittly connected through marriages. The use us for their self ends. What measures did the Police, Fire Bridgade & Ministry of Health put in place during Xmas period. Kafue Hospital had an ambulance…
