Increased crime issues are top of President Hakainde Hichilema’s agenda-Anthony Bwalya

Share

State House has said that issues of increased crime; attacks and robberies in the country are top of President Hakainde Hichilema’s agenda with a call to police to swing into action to address the core issues of crime.

Presidential spokesperson Anthony Bwalya said because the crimes have a tendency to interfere with the credibility of the business environment. Mr. Bwalya says it is of great importance that the security wings swing into action and begin to make a determination on the hotspots of crime.

Mr. Bwalya said that there is also need to understand the organic cause of the spates of crime being experienced as to whether this is as a result of poverty or joblessness in order for government to make informed decisions.

Mr Bwalya says the country needs to begin addressing the core issues leading to increased crime levels because the President’s agenda is to grow the economy and leverage trade and investment as a basis for creating jobs. He says the crime levels are an impediment to efforts in growing the economy because the people want to conduct business in an environment that is safe.

  1. The only LOT sneaking back onto the streets is the traffic police. A very determined lot too. And with their current behaviour they seemingly have the blessings from the top.

FYI… That too is day-light robbery!

  2. Crime is on the rise under HH…..the youths have now resorted to stealing….someone lied to them that he will create employment for them just less than 2 weeks into office….now that person is busy globetrotting

  3. Dr Mmembe talked about this. Wake up please. Since the elections the security situation has been on the decline. Maybe there was too much expectations.

  5. MR. BWALYA HAS MISSED THE POINT ON INCREASING CRIME LEVELS. IT IS A WELLKNOWN FACT THAT DURING PF A LOT OF SMALL FIRE ARMS PISTOLS GOT ISSUED TO CADRES AND SOME GOT USED TO EXTORTING MONEY FROM BUS STATIONS AND MARKETS. NOW THATTHEY HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT OFTHE MARKETS THEY HAVE NO MEANS OF LIVILIHOOD HENCE RESORTING TO CRIME. MIND YOU MOST OF THEM MANAGED TO BUY VEHICLES AND THESE ONES BEING USED. THE POLICE HAVE GOT THE DATA ON WHICH CADRES WERE ISSED WITH FIRE ARMS AND WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IMMEDIATELY THE NEW DAWN TOOK OFFICE TO CONDUCT A CLEAN UP TO CONFISCATE ILLIGALLY ACQUIRED FIRE ARMS FROM SUSPECTED CADRES. OR REQUIRE ALL THOSE WHO ACQUIRED FIRE ARMS TO GO THE NEAREST POLICE STATIONS TO HAVE VERIFICATIONS AND BE ISSUED WITH NEW PERMITS. AT THE MOMENT THE POLICE ARE LACKING…

  6. Agreed. Zambia is a babazonke country. It’s not just the mines. Any investor can come in the country do business and repartriate everything. Talk of gross mismanagement, ZCCM-IH goes to invest in a loss making bank instead of consolidating it’s core business of investment in minerals development. IDC goes to invest in a troubled Chinese tile manufacturing company at hyperinflated valuation. The only thing I differ with Sean is his call for a strong Kwacha. A strong Kwacha would inhibit our efforts to diversify. A strong Kwacha make imports cheap and exports expensive. It only benefits the likes of ShopRite, PnP etc. It makes consumers happy with imported consumer goods when the forex is flowing in, but everything will come tumbling down when there is a forex shock. Another point not…

  9. PF caused all this, the level of unemployment during the PF rose very high, the only job you could do under PF is to go to the gym, strengthen your muscles and become a cadre. These are the cadres who have been chased from the markets and bus stations and now they have nowhere to run to and nothing to do. Had HH allowed cadreism in markets and bus stations, the same cadres would have switched camp to start wearing red berets, just for them to survive. PF created mess in our beloved country, thank God he listened to the cries of the people and finally PF has been booted out. All will be well soon.

  10. @Anthony boyi don’t change so fast… Remember you are out LT member. We made you be attractive to HH.
I miss your romantic articles about PF.
Where is Mubita? Give him an embassy.

  11. We the 2.8m are cannot wait to see PF criminals prosecuted for their numerous crimes. These people were committing crime in broad daylight. Edgar Lungu abrogated the constitution. If this won’t happen the UPND’s chances of retaining power in 2026 will be very slim.

  12. Does IG need to be reminded on what to do? Go and sort out petty crime in malls, offices, banks, streets…if they are cardres from a particular political party you know where to find them flash them out can clear them no mercy…..how were the rest of us surviving on a meal a day as they drove posh 4×4 bought by them for ‘chipani’ splashing money at some night spots and at times even burning hard currency saying it was too much…welcome to the land of real hustle with no contract from boma but living within our means….clear them

  13. The spike in crimes is as a result of PF cadres resorting to finding other means of getting easy money. This was predictable. These young people got used to extorting huge amounts of money from people. They were armed with all sorts weapons, from pepper spray to tezers and firearms. They are known in the communities, markets and business stations. All the police have to do is quickly carry out intelligence work to identify all those cadres who were armed, search their caves, and put all known PF cadres under surveillance. This information about these thugs is out there-still fresh in markets, bus stations, and communties.

  14. @Angus Bwalya
You sound like Anthony Bwalya…I used to hound him here on Lusaka Times….he’s a graduate of Saulosi School of Hardknocks….
    Nostradamus knows him very well

  15. IG has gone to the fossils of crime at the expense of the current. The current have to age for future processing. Always a step behind.
“Mr. Bwalya said that there is also need to understand the organic cause of the spates of crime being experienced as to whether this is as a result of poverty or joblessness in order for government to make informed decisions…” Seriously?
Is bally fixing or breaking the situation?
Remember peace is not an option.
Safety is proactively not an option too.
You were ushered in fix not to study situations and deliver lectures.

  16. My sister has been missing for close to 2 weeks after she was picked up by an unknown people in unregistered car posing as a taxi in New Kasama area along chifwema road. Woodslands police is the most incompetent and corrupt unit that needs serious people to run it and investigate the crimes. New Kasama is remote but has no police post. Please decentralize your service and add more community policing. Mr Kajoba please, mobilize your commands and stamp out criminals.
